Kings Acquire Jake LaRavia

Kinda sucks that if he is any level of good then there is almost no chance the Kings can keep him
That's not written in the stone.
Not many games are left in the regular season.
2025 draft is projected to be REALLY good.
Going against Domas, JV, Keegan, Lyles in practices alone can improve his game greatly.
Sharing the floor during the games with the current Kings roster is a very valuable time for any young players development.
Just sign in the summer with the Kings new contract, develop your game and get paid when the next contract negotiations will open.
In current NBA it is extremely important for a player to be on a right, fitting team. And oh boy, if he, in his minutes on the court this season, can be any good - well, Sacramento is a place which really needs a guy like him.

Trading up to get Colby Jones is a sunk cost. Unless you still have faith in Colby Jones as a player (I don't) there is no sense keeping him just to keep him. We wasted a pick on him either way. I don't see getting a useful player for even just this year as lighting a 2nd on fire. Using 2nds to dump Davion was lighting on fire.

I would guess the play here is they hope he is a solid performer for us, loves it on sac, flies under the radar and then we sign him to the 5Mish contract we can in the off season.
Let’s hope. And I was talking more about the seconds we gave up if we can’t resign him.

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I pointed it out in’s thread earlier but Haywood Highsmith was a similar impact player and he re-signed for 2/10
Also if second year is a player option he could get a much bigger payday by betting on himself if he is a good fit here.

It's much more valuable for guys at his stage in career to play for a team where he's valued and gets quality time, rather than squeezing a few mil more out of a contract and not being sure if it will be a good fit.

If he fits here and is happy with his role he absolutely will resign here for a 1-2 year deal, and then look to cash in after that.

I hope you are right. He has the same agent as Austin Reaves who signed a very team-friendly deal with the lakers. Nice to know Laravia is represented by an agent that doesn’t appear to be focused primarily on the money. Jake is from Indiana. If this team turns it on in the second half, Sacramento might be able to seduce him. I’m optimistic.

I actually still had hopes in Colby. Agree that he didn't show much yet. I'm also likely biased since I liked him as a big guard who can do a little bit of many things.

That said, we have to be patient with young players. He may never meet our expectations, but he was a minimal cost player. If he ever does become a decent contributor, and we lose Laravia at the end of this season, the trade would be a net negative (unless Laravia can help us get into the playoffs, in which case, even a short stint would have had value).

To be fair, we also may be projecting a bit here. LaRavia has never played a minute as a King, and we're already worried about whether or not we can re-sign him. I mean, his 3PT% is nice - this year - but he still hasn't scored 850 points in the NBA, so we might not want to crown him our savior just yet.

That said, I do hope that our friend @bajaden chimes in eventually. I seem to recall he was a big fan of LaRavia's back around draft time.
Yep, still am. I love hustle guys, especially those that come with some skills. The problem with the Kings is that they have too many so called stars, and not enought get down and get dirty players. LaRavia brings several things the Kings need. First and formost, height and length, plus an element of physicality. He doesn't need the ball to be effective, and he's a great 50/50 loose ball player. He's a good shooter, and most of all, he knows how to play! My main prerequisite!

The idea that you need multiple star players to win in the NBA makes me want to vomit. How many stars did the Michael Jordan Bulls have? Just one, Michael! everyone else on that team was a very, very good support player. You can only have one chief of the tribe. If your the designated chief, and you think you need a second chief, then you're no chief. Being called the leader doesn't make you the leader. You're not a leader if no one follows you!

I could belabor this point adnauseum, but I'll spare you that. Going forward I believe this team needs to find a way to trade DeRozen and get whatever it can for him. That will make Doug's decisions easier. They need to start bringing in some younger players to develop. They made a great find in Ellis, but they need more. Most of all, and maybe Monte has one in mind. They need to develop an idenity, and bring that to the floor every night.

As it stands right now, this isn't a good team. Maybe with the all star break they can get in some practices and work out some of the kinks. I hope so, but I'm not optimistic. As they say, a Zebra can't change it's stripes, and this team has too many Zebra's on it. My advice to Doug! Do your own thing amigo. This is yours to win or lose, so do it your way!

While I agree with the post, can't agree that Jordan was the only star in that Bulls team. You HAVE TO include Scottie. I mean the guy was voted one of the 50 greatest players, 3 times first team All-NBA, All Star MVP, and more.

Most of the "stars" accomplishments would fade in comparison. Jordan might have been the chief, but Scottie was certainly his deputy.
