[drupal=5]Kings 99 - Suns 110[/drupal]

The final score may have shown the Suns the winners, but it was the Kings fans who really won.

Watching the future of our team on the court was a real treat. Quincy Douby, with 17 points, was clearly the player of the night as he showed he does have what it takes to play the point.

It was nice to see names like Robinson, Caner-Medley, Shakur, Watkins and Parade get some minutes even if the game was in reach.

Things are gonna be different under Reggie Theus. The fun and excitement of Kings basketball is on its way back.

Be sure to check out the first edition of Brick's Grades.

Next Kings game is Tuesday in New Mexico, when the Kings face Mark Cuban's disappointing Mavericks.

I'm seeing that same old crap from last season.

Very little passing. And when we do pass, we hold onto the ball too long. Thus, no open shots for anybody.

Dribble, dribble, dribble... drive against 5 guys and put up a circus shot.

On defense, lots of effort, no results, lots of standing and watching the opponent make wide-open shots, lots of matador defense at the hoop.

Same old crap.

I guess some things never change eh?

I'm not seeing it yet.

Let's hope something changes before the regular season.

I hope so as well, I just could not get into the games last year it was so bad.... I will give them another chance this year and see if they can keep my attention throughout the season. Last year I was so sad everytime I watched a game I had to change the channel.

This could be because I was spoiled for so many years with a great game to watch even if they did loose. I miss those days.

Yes, I think we all miss those days. I'm not sure that's equivalent to being "spoiled", it's called having high expectations as a fan and wanting to see quality on the floor. This season, high expectations might be unrealistic expectations.

I wasn't that upset after the Sonics game because despite a lot of the same old stuff, we still managed to control and win the game. But last night, I got so tired of watching a team of pure shooters just take pot-shots at us all night long and our response is nothing but looking like a bunch of kids who haven't a clue what they're supposed to do.

Now, hopefully, that "bunch of kids" feel is a result of Reggie playing a lot of newbies to test them out. I'm trying to convince myself of that.

Except, a lot of the predictably poor play came from our veterans.

Bad Habits

Even if Theus is an All-World coach, it's going to take him a while. Case in point. Garcia drains a three a lopes down the court congratulating himself (I think he shook his own hand) on the three, while the Suns sped by for a layup. Also, Bibby getting mad at a non-foul call and not going all out to get back on defense. These are just a couple of little things, but rest assured the coaches are seeing a plethora of these little things. Also, is anyone willing to say that this team is going all-out on defense? I haven't seen it. Except for maybe Miller and Miki, I see the vets on cruise control. It still gets back to whether Theus can get guys to get outside of their comfort zone. So far, so not so good.

I think last nights game was fairly predictable going in. The Suns, an NBA elite team in the running last year and this season for a title. The Kings an average to below average NBA team based on the past two seasons. This year, one team is likely to win 55+ games and the other one will probably struggle to win 40. Yes, the teams rotations were jumbled, but not the overall level of talent on display.

I notice the Kings play Phoenix twice in the first full month of the season (games 11 and 12). Sac might enter those back-to-back contests at around 3-7 or 4-6 - maybe worse with no Artest for the first 7. With that kind of opening 10 games mediocre start, no doubt the Kings would be hard pressed to get a W against the powerful Suns - plus Amare should be back.

As they say, "hopefully we're entertaining."

Kings miss, suns rebound.

Suns for three.

kinda loss count of those. :p

I thought in the Sonics game, the help defense at least showed some effort and was somewhat effective.

But with the way the Suns run their offense, if its not fast break with a pinpoint pass leading the runner right to the hoop, it's no dribbling at all. It's pass-pass-pass-pass...we're scrambling around following the ball... and they find the guy we left behind for an open shot... that they rarely miss since they are a team of all shooters.

It's sooooooo frustrating!!

I agree with Kingster. I mean did you think that in 1 week all the old things are mad new? I challenge any of you to go into to work and do your job a completely different way than you have ever done it Monday morning. I will be a work in progress and take time to get used to doing it. But in the end if you accept the new way you can do it just as well as you did the old way. Now we need the players to accept it. If they do then we will get better if they don't we will not its that simple. But give more time than 1 week.

Because we are supposed to play well the second game into preseason

duh...

Give these guys a break. Cant believe we are jumping on them already. Its not like they werent trying. Hell, the fact that Bibby is actually attempting to play defense is a step forward.

The effort is there. It's the schemes, it's how they pass (or don't pass) the ball that is the same old problem. These are learned habits. They will not magically unlearn them on October 31st and start to pass the ball.
