I read it through and tried to verify. If league's interpretation IS as stated, it seems legit....http://www.phillymag.com/news/2016/...e-sacramentos-unprotected-draft-pick-in-2019/

It's either one or two more years with protection then it becomes a 2nd round pick. Going by memory.Don't we still owe the Bulls a 1st rounder in the next year or two?
Can we trade for a late first round pick in a year we already have a pick and convey that pick?
Supposedly "sources" have reported that even if we don't convey the Bulls the first round pick next year, since we're obligated to them through 2017, we can't convey a top 10 protected 2018 pick to the Sixers so they are now getting our 2019 unprotected pick and they are predicting Boogie will walk and they get a high lotto pick out of it.I've tried reading this 3 times but I'm very tired and not very intelligent so can someone give me the cliff notes?
That's pretty terrifying.... we kind of can't mess this up. We have to hit the grand slam this time, otherwise even blowing it up won't work, or at the very least it will be severely restricted for 1 year.Supposedly "sources" have reported that even if we don't convey the Bulls the first round pick next year, since we're obligated to them through 2017, we can't convey a top 10 protected 2018 pick to the Sixers so they are now getting our 2019 unprotected pick and they are predicting Boogie will walk and they get a high lotto pick out of it.
If heaven forbid we suck next year, the interpretation of the rule is a little strange but it may be correct. Coon's FAQ leaves open some other room for interpretation too, you can not acquire a pick after the trade has already been made to change the rules, however you can get around the rule by having any pick. So I wonder if we were to acquire a second 2017 first rounder before this draft starts we could convey in 2018 no matter what. That's pretty terrifying.... we kind of can't mess this up. We always knew that if we lose Cousins, we're screwed anyways. So if we lose him and then also lose the pick it will suck, but it was always going to suck. This just makes it all the more imperative that we don't lose him . I'm confident that if we are able to keep Cousins, we will be a playoff team and this won't be worth worrying about.
This. I think the danger of losing a high draft pick for nothing will ultimately hold the FO's feet to the flame, so to speak. It looks like all of the right moves are being made thus far, not just for this year, but long term. Stability and a single vision will go a long way towards not having to worry about our 2019 draft pick.
The idea was that we had a decent coach and would make a playoff push in a weakened Western conference last year. Turns out we were wrong.
It could be argued that our best FA pickup was Curry and the most impactful addition was our rookie draft pick. So how is it that people are convincing themselves that young players are a bad thing for us and that draft picks are irrelevant at any point?
I don't understand how continuing to gamble on youth with a front office that (until now?) has a horrific history of evaluating talent provides long term stability. We have a very good front court to build around, and a coach who knows how to utilize it. Stability means not having to evaluate top 10 draft picks year after year.I don't understand this thinking. How is trading lottery picks to obtain bench players past their prime good for long term stability?
This is a red herring. We are not saying what you say we are saying. We said that the impact will be marginal if we are good because the pick will not be high. If we are bad, then the impact will also be marginal because we will be really bad already. It will delay a rebuild by a year which is bad, but we will be bottom of the league already.
The bad is we keep gambling and losing and setting ourselves back ayear each time. That's the issue. Teams keep picking our pockets of draft picks and talent because we're so desperate to gamble and win big now.

It's not short sighted to build a winning culture and they thought they could do that. Not to mention they wanted to generate excitement for the new arena.Understood. But that was and always is a short sighted approach and not good for stability of a franchise.
