Ya gatta read all the posts dude. I've talked about Parakhouski extensively. He's dominating the competition in his conference, and out played Aldrich in their meeting earlier in the year in the second half of the game. So yes, I like him quite a bit, and I think he can play in the NBA. Just how good he can be at the next level is up for grabs.

Let me start with Favors first. Everything I know about Favors prior to his arriving at Georgia Tech says that he should be a very good player at the next level. He has the athleticism and the size to translate. So far, in his actual play, I haven't seen the wow factor. He's fundamentaly sound. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes, but so far, for the most part, he doesn't stand out in the same way, lets say a John Wall does. Or an Evan Turner does.
You have to take where he plays into consideration. Georgia Tech doesn't have very good guard play. And that can be huge in college. If you can't get the ball where and when your most effective, then your starting from behind the line every time. To make matters worse from a PR point of view, he plays with Lawal, who is like an energizer bunny. He's all over the court flying around with putbacks and rebounds. Favors does the same thing, but doesn't look as spectacular doing it because he does it by using fundamentals. I think Favors is one of those guys that will be a better pro than he was a college player.
Who does Cousins remind me of. I really hate to get into this kind of thing because Cousins should remind me of Cousins. But I understand the question and why its usually asked. My first impulse is pick players that go back a ways. Being the old fart that I'am. But trying to keep it current and picking someone that younger people will remember, I'm going to say Alonzo Mourning. Before everyone jumps out of the building, I'm not saying that he's as good as Mourning. I'm just saying that his game and his body type put together remind me of Mourning. I think that Mourning may have been more athletic. But they're both about the same size with similar body types and both play under the basket.
So I would say, best case senario would be Alonzo Mourning and worst case senario would be Erick Dampier.

Thanks. I used to be a huge college basketball fan, but once the huge influx of high schoolers and underlcassman declaring started, it seemed to really water down the overall talent level in the collegiate ranks, a lack of fundamentals if you will. I really have lost a lot of interest in it since that time. Maybe I am just getting old, but there just doesn't seem to be the same talent level in college hoops that there once was.

I think there's just as much talent as there used to be. It just doesn't stay as long. Most to the big time talent is one and done. So overall, your probably right that there's not as much talent at one time as there used to be.

To be a college fan now I think you have to appreciate watching the less talented juniors and seniors get better through their careers and watch them compete with the ready made one and done NBA stars. For instance a hypothetical Final 4 matchup of four year college star Scottie Reynolds and Villanova taking on John Wall and Kentucky. That'd be a hell of a game.
It might not be the level of basketball you saw when Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Akeem Olajuwon were upperclassmen, but its still fascinating.
Bajaden - I haven't seen Varnado at all this year. How's his jumper look? If he can hit an 18 foot jumper he's gonna be a great guy to have.
I'm starting to wonder, if Cousins continues to play the way he has recently and blows up in the tournament, is there a point at which he challenges John Wall for the first overall spot? Given the longstanding bias for drafting size in the lottery and the overall dearth of quality NBA centers (compared to the recent explosion of All-Star level point guards entering the NBA in the past few years) -- I'm wondering if Cousins' 20 and 10 potential with an ideal body type for a big man starts to change some people's minds. John Wall does look ridiculously talented in every way, but every team in the league is looking for a dominant big man. Cousins hasn't just been a pleasant surprise lately, he's been maybe the most dominant player in college basketball.

He's improved his jumper quite a bit. I would say that 18 feet is about his limit to be consistant with it. He still doesn't take it enough, but I don't see him as a liability on offense, and he should only get better once in the NBA. I still see him as the best shotblocker in college. He just has incredible timing. He's a PF though, and I don't see him ever putting on enough bulk to play center. But he'd be a great defensive player to have on the team.

Unfortunately this is always the problem when you find what might be a gem. He starts living up to your long term expectations too soon and gets drafted before you have a chance at him. I don't think he'll go before Wall, or even Turner for that matter, but I do see him being in the top five. Hey, the way were playing, we might be picking in the top five.

If we dont trade Kevin before the deadline, he could be a good "movin up" chip come draft day.
I could see Cousins going top 5 as well. The dude just dominates. He may hurt his stock at the combine, what with his chubbyness. But he's what, 19? No reason why the dude cant tone up and get more athletic.

Heck with movin up piece I still think we could get the Knicks pick from the jazz for Kevin thus giving us two lotto picks in a draft just plain loaded with bigs. The more I read and see of this years class the more I want a second pick.

And if we get the Knicks pick...We could end up with Cousins and Monroe/Davis/Edoh or something like that. Really fill out our frontcourt.

Monroe would not be my first choice by a long shot. For one thing we need someone that can play the center position. Monroe isn't a center, and he's not even a physical PF. He has improved his inside game this year and is rebounding the ball better, but I wouldn't call him a great defender. Sometimes not even a good defender.
I like Alabi too, but if we end up picking top 5 I don't think you reach to get a center over more talented players who may not fill a position need perfectly. If we slide back to around the 10th pick that looks like a much more enticing option though.

He wouldn't even come close to being BPA at our pick.
true it may end up being a few picks too high for him but he'd be a great pickup for us. with usbeing #4 right now we have a pretty good shot at cousins, who i'd rather have than favors although favors would be a good pickup for us. I'm still a little unsure on aldrich.. rather not take him depending on who's there he could be a good player maybe

Not a chance in hell are they going to draft Monroe. Been there. Done that. Softness is ancient history. Kings management got their brains beat in by softness and won't go back to it anytime soon.

One would think. But I, too, would be surprised if Petrie passes on Monroe if he's in our area. He fits the Petrie big man mold exactly, for better or for worse.
this would be the best case scenario for us getting the knicks pick from utah, especially if it's the trade where we get AK who I'd love to have (although I don't know what his contract situation is or how bad it is) he'd be a great fit for us. either way having two lottery picks would give us a nucleus of young stars kinda like the thunder, that we could build around. we wouldn't haw to rely on any free agents or getting a star, we'd just build around tyreke.
it would be amazing to pair wall and tyreke I don't see how you can say they won't work together that'd give us the best backcourt in basketball and they'd definitely be a good fit. we've seen Sergio and beno work out and wall would be a lot better.
even if we didn't have a chance at wall with two picks and all the big men coming out we could get our center and still take a guard that compliments tyreke if possible or just get a really good player.
imagine the possibilities we'd have and how much better we'd be by the end of next year.

I, like Kingster would be very surprised if we took Monroe with our first pick. For one thing, right now were picking in the number 4 or 5 range, and thats way too high to take Monroe. Secondly, unless we aquire a defensive big through a trade, I don't see us picking someone like Monroe when our greatest need is interior defense.
My perference would be that we aquire a defensive big either through a trade, or through free agency. That we somehow aquire another first round pick in the mid to low first round. We could then pick the best player available with our first pick and take a flyer on a big man with our second first round pick. I would hate to make reach at number 4 or 5 when someone like Turner or Johnson is sitting there. Now if we can get Cousins or Aldrich with that pick, then thats another story.
I think that there are some big men that could turn out to be pretty good in the later part of the first round. Possibly even with our second round pick.

Then again, Petrie has ignored the problem of interior defense on this team for how many seasons now? I cant remember the last move he made to try to improve the Kings in this area...Oh wait, Ostertag. 
There are some decent defensive bigs out there that could be had via trade or FA. And if we DO end up getting Cousins or Aldrich (fingers crossed), that'd be a HUGE step towards being relevant again.

He's not. But he's a beast down low. We need that as much as we need a defensive big. Tyreke can't carry the offensive load by himself. Weve all seen the offensive output this team puts out in stretches... and it hurts to watch.
A shot blocking C can be had in FA if the team so chooses.

Certainly not in the same sense as Alabi or Whiteside. But he has the potential to be at least a good defender. He's unmovable on the block and has very long arms. His two main deficiences are his lateral movement and lack of hops. The lack of hops doesn't bother me that much. When your 6'11" and have a 7'3" wingspan you really don't need to jump very much to play defense.
Offensively he's a load. Once he has the ball near the basket he's pretty hard to stop. And his post game is still a work in progress. All in all, if your looking for size, skill, strength, offense, rebounding, and decent defense, he's the best all around in college right now. The big question is whats between his ears. How dedicated is he? Is he willing to work hard to become the best player he can be. If he is, then he has tremendous potential.
