King of the Hill DMC

Not to hijack the thread, but how perfect of a fit would Melo be next year if DMC does pan out to what he looks like right now?

Please don't sign that extension, Melo!

Putting up with Lala wouldn't be fun though, but I'll take it to be able to play the Heat in the finals year after year (maybe win a few too)

PG: Tyreke
SG: Garcia
SF: Melo
PF: Thompson
C: Cousins

Does that look like a championship team to you? Might need a couple more pieces?

Am I the only the one who thinks getting Melo would make us worse?

If Cousins is really as good as he's shown, we're going to have to shell out the big bucks to keep them in town.

That line up is not going to win a championship. Thompson and Garcia are bench players. The only chance that we can get Melo is if we get to conference championship this year. He's going to go where he can get a ring. All these superstar players in their prime want the same thing. For us to be near championship, we need someone to step up for PF. Right now, it's up for grabs. Darwinianism is going to play out here. As for SG, I'd have Tyreke play that position and have Beno play the point.

Pipe dream. If Melo leaves Denver he's going to NY.

Not even sure its necessary -- I am beginning to think we have our big two already in town in a classic inside/outside duo, and its very difficult to make three 20pt scorers in one lineup work.

On top of that, we could continue to clear cap space in the upcoming years so that we have a ton money to keep resigning these guys until they are 35 years old.

This. If Cousins pans out, we've got a 24ppg PG and a 24ppg C. That's assuming they're featured in the offence. A 30PPG SF is just going to take touches away from those guys. Melo's not a bad passer, but between our MONSTER PG and C, we've got two go-to scorers with playmaking ability. Some teams can't even handle two alpha males. Let's not go get a third. Our rebuilding is done. Completely done. All we need to do is maintain cap flexability so we can offer Reke/Cousins the max contracts they deserve. Keeping these two guys motivated and in uniform is absolutely priority #1.

As far as I'm concerned, the priorities for the rest of the team should be rebounding, defense, and making the WIDE OPEN shot, in that order. Bench scoring can come in at the tail end. The team we have today could be a championship team. We need to give them roles/minutes, then lock up the keepers.

Frankly, I feel like our capspace has already been spent on people that are currently on the team.

The great thing about having two guys this good is that your third guy doesn't need to be one of the greatest scorers in the league in order to be really effective. :)

You mean that now we can add roleplayers, and they'll actually BE ROLE-players and not our key players that we depend on nightly to win? :D

Melo would not fit with Evans just like he didn't fit with Iverson.

yep gotta agree with that. hes always been the best player on his team. i don't know if he could accept a lesser role and know its not his team. this is reke's team.

our capspace is needed to for our current players. we need some good role players and we're set.

Is anyone else amused by the fact that we're all so excited about the future with Boogie that the acquisition of Dalembert has pretty much been reduced to "something kinda cool"? :)

It was always "something kinda cool," though, since he's an ender who's likely to be gone a year from today. But I do expect a little more interest in the subject once he actually plays for us.

i don't get this we need roleplayers thing. Thompson, Landry, Garcia, Beno are perfect role players. Not to mention Dalembert and Casspi will also be coming off the bench

It's called 'grass is always greener' syndrome. You see, the grass is always greener somewhere else, so instead of working with what you have, folks see players on other playoff caliber teams where their lives are made easier due to the dominant forces on those teams, and then they over pay for said role player who no longer performs at the same level due to not fitting into the new system the same way said player fit into their previous system. Lets take JJ Redick for example. He played with a dominant big and 3 other shooters on the roster who helped space the floor and give him wide open shots. So he ended up being an overrated free agent this year and somebody (Chicago) overpaid for his services thinking he would fit the same way on their squad. But now that he is the only shooter on that squad, things are probably gonna be a little different for him....

Cousins Continues To Dominate

DeMarcus Cousins is quickly establishing himself as one of the biggest mistakes in the draft.

Unfortunately for teams like Philadelphia, New Jersey and Minnesota, they share that mistake. Cousins is putting together quite the summer league résumé with performances like Wednesday's against the Wolves. The fifth pick in the draft posted another double-double on a night in which he demanded the ball and buried a 10-foot hook shot with 2.8 seconds to win the game.

"DeMarcus came to me on the bench and said, 'Coach, I want to make plays; give me the ball,'" Mario Elie said after the Kings pulled out a 79-78 victory. "And I got to listen to the big fellow."

Cousins put up a monster stat line with 22 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals, but it was the way he put up those numbers that shows why passing on this guy was such a mistake. Cousins almost exclusively passed the ball when the game started as he tried to get his teammates involved. He showed an affinity for wanting to make his teammates successful on the court. This type of mentality for the Kings' latest big man prospect is both a gift and a curse. The coaching staff has to plead him to take more shots and not be so unselfish.

"We have to tell him to shoot," Elie added. "He's a willing passer. He wants to pass. He wants to make plays."

And he made the biggest play of the night. In the final possession for the Kings, Cousins took the ball on the left side of the floor, spun to his left and put up a right hook from about 10 feet. It capped a small comeback by the Kings and allowed him to let out his emotion that he's so famous for.

Earlier in the game, Cousins and Greg Stiemsma exchanged body blows and elbows throughout much of the first half. As they left for their respective locker rooms at halftime, they exchanged words, too. Based on reputation, many would assume he'd come out in the third quarter and lose his temper in a way detrimental to the Kings team. Instead, he expressed himself by dominating the majority of the second half and leading the team to a win.

Cousins has played significant minutes through the first three games of summer league. On Thursday, the Kings will enjoy a day off before they face the undefeated Raptors on Friday. Cousins now gets to rest and prepare his body for a shot at putting up a fourth straight double-double. Something that won't rest with the teams that passed on him in the draft will be the lingering notion of regret for not believing he should be a part of their teams.

"He's a fierce competitor," Elie said after the Kings improved to 3-0. "And I know Minnesota probably regrets not taking him before. We're glad to have that big boy. He's amazing."

They did sign Kyle Korver too you know. But anyway you're right. We don't need any other teams crappy role players. We have our own. I mean there's talk about Ronnie Brewer. Seriously?

This just puts a big smile on my face. Ladies and gentlemen... the Kings are back.

I hope this all translates to more nationaly televised games this coming season. Atleast more than the warriors, for christ sakes.
yeah i never understood why the Warriors got way more national TV games last year than Sac. i know it wasn't just because of Curry. Tyreke is way better than him, so if that was the case then the kings shoulda had just as many games. only thing i can think of is either because they play in a MUCH bigger media market, or because of that 'gimmick' ball crap they play under Nelson.
