just heard on espn2 that kidd will be traded to the lakers by the deadline next year.....

i didnt hear the entire thing because it was marc stein, and i cant stand his face... that hair(piece) gets on my nerves.... uh-oh... now we have 3 contenders in the pacific next year with phoenix, golden state and now the kidd-lead lakers.... but who will they trade? i didnt hear the entire thing so i dont know who was mentioned, grant maybe? the world may never know... if webber and his contract can be moved then so can grants....

Marc Stein is the same person that swore up and down all last season that Kobe Bryant would be a Clipper this year.

Take that into consideration before getting too worked up.

I think probably another rumor....Lakers will have a long summer so maybe Marc wants to start something? :D

thats just what i heard... i dont know the whole situation since i missed the first part of the show....

This is great news.

All that cap money would be spent to get kidd with little left over to spend on a quality center.

They may get an 8th seed next year. How far the mighty have fallen in a year. Scandals, a player with an ego the size of LA running out the best player in the league (WHO BTW is about to take his team to the promise land) and one of the best coaches in NBA history. Gotta love the drama in LALA land.

I was actually watching the same thing as Aries. Stein did NOT say Kidd was going to be traded for a fact, he was just making a prediction in "Put Up or Shut Up." He said that a possible trade scenario would include a package of Lamar Odom and some other player(s).

That would give Jersey 3 star SF and no pg.

I'm not too upset ...missing the playoffs for the 5th time in 57 years...not the end of the world.

It would also destroy the idea of building long term around Kobe.

After microfracture surgery, Kidd is close but will never again be the same player he was when he led the Nets to back-to-back finals. He is on the downside of his career and would at best be a short term solution to what has become a long term problem.

The Lakers problem is that they have 3 guys who are eating up almost the entire cap in Bryant, Odom and Grant. They have a tradable piece in Butler, but outside that and a draft pick which will probably be 10th this year, they don't have a lot of options for improvement. Grant will be tradable in two years when his ending contract will become attractive and Odom is tradable now, but I doubt the Lakers would get true value for him.

I'm not sure what package the Nets would be willing to take for Kidd anyway, but the fact remains that JK isn't the answer for the Lakers. My guess is that Laker fans, even after this train wreck of a season, wouldn't want Kupchak to acquire the aging PG.

any mention in this rumor who exactly the Lakers would have to trade to get Kidd? Lamar Odom? Kidd to the Lakers will be like Webber to the Sixers; big name, small results.

Anyone who believes anything Marc Stein blathers has no one to blame but themselves.

;)

Can teams even talk to each other about trades after the trading deadline and before the season starts?

Nope. Not until Draft Day I believe - but I could be wrong about that.

nothing like living in the past

I'm not living in the past...it's a fact that this organization has a tradition of not being down for too long.

I'll be the first to admit that the Lakers suck this year, but for all those who think they're going to fall off the face of the earth after this season...I wouldn't bet on it, if I were you.

She made a valid statement. Missing the playoffs for only the 5th time in 57 years is pretty blasted impressive.

I do not disagree with that. I am just saying that it is the past

No, you're poking a stick at another member simply because she's a Laker fan.

Cool it.

Nothing terribly wrong with what he said, IMO. ;)

I would've responded, "At least the Lakers have a past." I always take the bait. ;)
