Don't Make Me Use The Bat
The third in our final month before the season prediction poll series: How Do You Think the PG Competition Will Play Out This Season?

Hard to envision Brooks legitimately overtaking IT unless IT falls on his face or Brooks combines his MIP shooting year with newly found PG ability.

IT as a rookie did everything better than Brooks has ever done, except for FGA and one year of 3pt %. And despite giving up a couple inches, IT is a much stronger rebounder and defender.

Ideally IT will play close to 30, while Brooks will split the 20 remaining PG min with Reke. Although I never want to see a FA signing do less than great, Brooks will be a useful but underwhelming 4th guard/injury insurance, and will opt out with no resistance.

I think that coach Dumb will play IT and Brooks together for periods of the game just like he had IT and Jimmer play together at times.

I think IT will take the reigns of the team, he definetly has the mentality to take the bull by the horns(something i wish Tyreke would have). At best we will be a 30 win team, so IT will get alot of minutes so we can see if he is indeed starter material, unless Tyreke and Cousins make substantial leaps, we will only have 5-7 more wins than last year.

I think Brooks will start, even if IT outplays him by a small margin. He's old enough to be a proven vet, young enough to still be in his prime, and Petrie has been after him for years. But IT will be essentially the same player we saw last year, so he'll force his way into 20+ minutes. I don't see Smart putting them on the floor together except for short stretches or in the event of foul trouble in the backcourt - there's plenty of opportunity to play either Brooks/IT alongside Jimmer if we want to go small. It certainly is looking like Tyreke is going to move to the 2 for the most part - he may handle the ball a bit more than your typical 2, but I don't think we'll see many stretches where one of these two (or at times Jimmer) isn't on the floor and Tyreke has the PG to himself.

We obviously aren't going to have all-star-level production at PG, but I think between Brooks and IT we'll be content with what we do get on the offensive end, not so happy about the defensive end.

I see Thomas starting for the season but then again that might not be the case with Smart at the helm. Brooks is going to get a fair amount of minutes as well but man we are undersized at the starting and back up PG.

I voted for the Platoon of IT/Brooks. I think Smart will try to use these two to run the other team off the floor.

Actually, their very similar in how they play, and in stat results. In Brooks 2009/10 year, his last good year, he averaged 35 MPG, 19.6 PPG, 5.3 APG, 2.6 RPG, while averaging 43.2% overall, and 39.8% from the three. He also shot 82.2% from the line.

I.T. averaged 25 MPG, 11.5 PPG, 4.1 APG, 2.6 RPG, while averaging 44.8% overall, and 37.9% from the three. He shot 83.2% from the line.

So I don't think you can say that I.T. overall, is better than Brooks. I have no idea how well Brooks played in europe, but apparently it was pretty good. I have no idea who will start the season, but I think its highly possible that Brooks will be the eventual starter. It should make for good competition in training camp.

Outside of that nice season, Brooks had 2 mediocre seasons and a terrible one, which was his most recent. Maybe Brooks can replicate what he did that one good year, and Thomas has just had his career season. That is what it would take for Brooks to overtake IT, so while possible, that has to lean towards the unlikely side.

This one is tough. A lot depends on how Brooks responds to Smart. I just don't know enough about his personality to predict whether the two will be on the same page or not.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say Brooks regains his form due to wanting to prove himself after a year abroad.
