The dreaded dog days of the NBA summer for our non-playoff Kings, and all but the final 4 for that matter. Tho' its looking like we may have a historic finals rematch......

May 27-June 2 NBA draft combine Orlando

June 2-16 NBA workouts for all draft eligible players

Monday, 16 June Last date for early entry withdrawals

Thursday, 26 June NBA DRAFT

Monday, 30 June Last day for option year stay or go decisions (Artest, KT)

Tuesday, 1 July NBA teams can negotiate with free agents and trade candidates

Wednesday, 9 July Free agent signing period begins
NOTE: Teams and players must wait for the salary cap to be set before trades and most free agent signings can commence. This year the moratorium on signings ends July 9. However, there are a few types of signings that are allowed in the 1-9 July period: signing first round draft picks, second round pick accepting a "required tender", a restricted free agent accepting a "qualifying offer", players accepting minimum salary contracts for one or two years.

Friday, 11 July NBA Vegas Summer League starts, through Sun, July 20th (Schedule due mid-late June)

Wednesday, 1 October First day of training camp

That depends solely upon the Kings releasing the information to the media.

Also sometimes the agents for the players give the info to Amick or sites like DraftExpress, but I don't remember when the Kings release the info usually. I know we're supposed to work out Ryan Andersen but that's the only thing I've heard.

VF do the Kings have a usual date for releasing this info to us or do they do it at different times usually?

Looking at the dates, I'm going to be out of the country for a lot of key ones. Dang! Where to get my Kings and Monarchs fix in the middle of the Scottish highlands? I plan on getting on the internet when I can, but I'm going to miss kingsfans.com.

For some reason I feel that the rebuild begins in earnest this offseason. Maybe its that it seems like the Maloofs are finally behind it, as apposed to patch jobs to make the 8th spot.

Or maybe its because I'm an optimist.

Cant wait to hear about the developement of the youth though! Spencer's gonna be our summerleague MVP!

Also: Please let this be the year that Petrie decides to not waste the MLE on a marginal player who takes minutes away from the young guns

The safe guess is that we're going to use the MLE on Beno or another PG, seeing as we don't have one under contract right now.

Let's just keep this thread about key dates, okay? There are already a bazillion threads going about what changes might be made to the roster. Thanks!

I see in the NBA draft2008 site that RonRon AND Kenny Thomas both have opt out options they can exercise (or not) by June 30th!! WOW! If 7,000 fans cross their fingers for good luck, maybe KT will opt out. Wouldn't that be a great sumertime gift???

Scott Howard-Coopers' comment at the bottom of this NBA.com web page is great:

From The Media:
"It's just fun speculation, of course, because the Kings never would spend a lottery pick on a center for the second year in a row. Or on a power forward who is curiously identical to the Spencer Hawes selection of 2007 in ways both pleasing and concerning. Or a point guard with much to prove about being a point guard. Or a small forward when the coach shovels praise on the one they already have.

Except it's not just for fun. It's real and it's possible."

How come Amick hasn't said anything about work outs? We've supposedly started working players out already and he hasn't said anything. Come on man do your job!!!!!:D

I hate to make such a large sacrifice, but, what the hell, I'll go for you and you can stay home and enjoy..

That's so generous of you, but I couldn't impose. ;) :D

(I will be looking to get the info on our draft pick, before I get back, tho.)
