Kevin? or Francisco?

If we are unable to sign a guard, i see one of these two starting. But who in your opinion (or does somebody already know) will be starting? IMO id rather have kevin martin. But why would we let this rookie start instead of kevin?

Maybe its wishful thinking, but I doubt seriously the Maloofs and Petrie will offer up a team without a stronger starting 2 guard in the lineup. As fans we're used to better, and as basketball fans themselves, I'm sure they'll want more at that spot (either a new guy in a trade or evan Evans based on his offensive and defensive work in the Seattle wreckage).

Don't get me wrong, both are good prospects I just don't think one will start. Maybe a better question will be which one will remain a King?

Nobody knows who will be starting, nor should they.

If you take the time to read the threads about the summer league in Vegas, you'll learn a little about how each of them (Kevin and Cisco) are doing. At this point, if it had to come down to either one or the other, my educated guess would be Kevin because he's at least one year away from being a rookie.

At this point, it's way too premature to make any kind of real assessment about Garcia because he simply hasn't played in the NBA. It's also hard to assess what kind of player Martin will be the second year in...

IMHO there's no hurry. It's only July. We have a lot of TDOS left and hopefully some trades to go before the season starts.

You might want to give the guy a chance, maybe more then 1 game a day after he signed his first professional contract, before making those accusations.

Nope. It was all or nothing. I understand Petrie is already trying to move Garcia's contract as it's clear he's not gonna work out at all... The hold-up is that you can't move a player two days after they sign their first NBA contract.

Stupid rules. We're doomed.

1. Welcome to the board.

2. No, Petrie isn't trying to move Garcia's contract. He couldn't if he wanted to...and he doesn't want to.

I was ridiculing the idea that you could judge a player by ONE performance in a summer league, especially when that player was playing his first game even remotely related to the NBA. The ink on his contract isn't even dry yet. The idea that anyone can predict his future with the Kings or with any other NBA team, should that eventually happen, was just so ridiculous I couldn't help myself.

I do that sometimes...

I like watching Evans play (when he's on) but he has shown inconsistency as well. We know what KM is doing this summer, but has anyone heard if Mo is working on his game or if he's just contract hunting. I'd like to see him back, but more as a backup to Peja.

Check the thread about the Vegas summer league, SDKing. Evans was in Vegas at the game and, according to the article, his people are talking to the Kings. Start with the newest posts and work back.

Will do, I usually check what's at the top of the homepage first, and this thread was first.

As VF21 alluded to, the question that started this post is a bit silly. Those that chimed in with an immediate response have no idea.

Garcia needs time to see how he'll do, and the Summer League is but a small indicator of the possibilities. Kevin needs to prove that he has progressed in several areas.

The jury's out on both until training camp is well along.

damn thats a relief, i thought u were serious, VF. i personally think that if we resign evans, he should start at the SG position, with Kevin as his backup. then play Cisco as Peja's backup, and let him play at the 2 slot, as well. but thats just me.

As I said earlier, it's way too early to decide who should be starting at various positions. That's why they have summer leagues and training camp - to assess the possibilities. When you have returning veterans like Bibby, Brad and Peja, it's usually a foregone conclusion about their slots. But right now the shooting guard especially and even the power forward position are big question marks. There's no need to try and figure it out now. It would be like trying to solve a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle with only 150 pieces.

I want some Mo. It looks like him and the Kings are on very good terms and we are probably the favs to resign him. In the case that Evans goes elsewhere and we don't sign or trade for a better SG, Martin should deff get the nod over Cisco. This is because Martin knows the system better, has more experience in the NBA, and because he has been working hard in the offseason to make a mark in the summer league in order to be more appealing in the case that he could start.

Give me some MO!

very true vf, although it is a little bit fun trying to get the 150 pieces in the right place, at least, so that the next 150 pieces can be more easily figured out. Also, we're all bored...lol

I have no problem with that at all, BobbyJ. What I strenuously object to, however, is the idea of dumping on one player (in this case, Garcia) with little to no information to base your assessment on. It's okay to state preferences, etc. but I think it's just ridiculous to make comments like "garcia sucks and is overhyped. garcia sucked first game."

That just shows a total lack of understanding about the whole NBA process, IMHO.

I would be comfortable with either guy starting and actually prefer that we do not sign somebody else. We have two firsts invested in the position and more glaring holes elsewhere. The 2 spot will not be the key to this season anyway.

I wouldn't mind the Kings re-signing Mo Evans, only because he can also slide to the 3, and not get abused defensively. He also provides good rebounding at the SG spot and is a nice option against post up SGs like Wells or Richardson who would/will murder the Cisco Kid or Special K in the blocks.

From the report at Las Vegas, it seems like Mo is pretty chummy with the Kings, so I think there's a good chance he'll be back. If not, I hope the Kings sign Barnes to back up the three spot.

But I do agree with Venom. I don't think the Kings need another retread SG. I don't see any realistic FA options that I like and I do have some faith in the youngsters. If Evans doesn't return I'd like to see them fight it out for a starting job.
