Kevin Martin

I love this kid. I was one of the ones who always knew he had big potential. Even to all the people out there that are saying "Its only a few good games, it means nothing yet", well how many 22 year olds are playing like this after being picked in the late first round? Bar Gilbert etc. We got a steal in the draft and he will be something special if he works as hard next year as he did this year.
GOOD JOB KEVIN!!!!!!!

martin is great, but we have parker, kobe and odom coming up on thursday..... thats a horrible matchup for bibby, martin and especially garcia..... hopefully corliss and thomas get the bulk of those minutes at sf.....

HEY EVERYONE PROLLY THOUGHT THAT NASH, MARION, AND BELL(ALTHOUGH NOT IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AS KOBE) WOULD KILL BIBBY, MARTIN, AND CISCO AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED

true but odm and garcia alone makes me worry..... that and bibby has no one to cheat off of, until george comes in.... kobe will be going nuts... but i still cant wait to see the game.....

Perhaps the reason you see Garcia "developing" earlier than Mevin is because he is already getting more minutes than kevin did as a rookie. You can't play/develope sitting on the sidelines.

Isn't Cisco 2 years older than Kevin?

Well here's the thing -- the naysayers were actually RIGHT last year (separating naysayers from the "haters" prattling on about how much he sucked).

And by that I just mean this -- Kevin has come a LONG way, and not just in PT. 2 things have changed dramatically: 1) the jumper. NO comparison. He did not have an NBA caliber jumper last year. Not evena good college level jumper. And it has improved dramatically, not just this year, but even just in the last month. He still couldn't hit anything the first 2 months of THIS season. And now all of a sudden it looks much smoother and almost comfortable. 2) the confidence -- Kevin spent a large chunk of his first year looking passive and even scared. And he had some real nasty pacthes early trhis year as well. And no, that is NOT normal for a rookie wiht a future. Most players who will be good have considerable confidence. Sometimes too much of it. But things have started to click for Kevin now. How much of it was predictable? Well, you could always play the "if only" game with him since he did have potential. But thinking he was NOT gong to make it also made perfect sense. He had to improve his game, physical and mental, tremendously in order to do what he has been doing here.

Didn't Kevin say when he first came he didn't want to step on anyones toes (get in the veterans ways). Now those toes are either with another team or are on the inactive list.

His confidence is heading in the right direction and he surprised me how quick his is continuing to developing. I thought it would take him another year, but I'm glad it didn't.

Kevin as a starter:
12 games
34.4 MPG
13.1 PPG
50.5%FG on 4.4/8.8
44.8%3PT on 1.1/2.5
84.4%FT on 3.2/3.8 this will probably go up since I see he has the skill to get to the line often.
5.5 RPG
2.4 APG
1.5 TO
1.1 STL

Wish I put him in my lineup for my weekly NBA fantasy.

Kevin has had a couple of good games recently. What we need to see is some consistancy from him. If he can build upon his success and keep on contributing at that level he may become starter material. Lets hope he can continue on with this learning curve and become the star that he has potential for.

And all that we (the supporters, as oppossed to the nay-sayers) were trying to state was don't let that laid back seeming attitude or that baby face fool you, this young man is tough and has a work ethic that is staggering. Even the 'nay-sayers' admitted he had potential, we just had faith that he had the werewithal to figure out how to effectively use it. I still think he is more comfortable/effective as a starter, or getting big minutes as oppossed to coming in for 5-10 off the bench.

The Haters were just wrong on all counts:D

The KMart naysayers and haters have actually operated mostly on common ground, just expressed themselves differently. ;)

IMHO they really didn't WATCH Kevin's play, especially last season, when Kevin rarely had a bad defensive outing. In fact, there were numerous games where Kevin would shut down his man in his short stint, then Mobley or Evans would come in and the guy would light them up immediately.

On offense, Kevin was indeed deferring to the elder statesmen last season, but there was also typically no effort placed on getting him involved by the point guard who tended to run the offense to the opposite side of the floor, or over-play the screen and roll with Webber, or dribble, dribble, dribble and go up against 3 guys in the lane. We've seen more of that this season, too, but we've also seen games MOST recently where there does not appear to be a "bias" as to which side of the floor the offense is initiated.

Kevin has still not "proven" anything yet, other than he has the skills and tools and heart to be a solid NBA player IF he gets the minutes to develop some rhythm. Unfortunately, his life will change again when Bonzi returns, and that will be yet another career moment of truth for him to bring it in lesser minutes off the bench. Kevin may or may not be equipped to be able to produce in that situation like he has as a starter, but we can only hope that the "rhythm" he has developed as a starter will carry over when he again plays second fiddle to Bonzi.
