Kevin Martin and his ankle

It seems like he's been out way too long for an ankle sprain. Is there something else wrong or what? How long was he out with the groin injury? To me that seemed worse, but maybe my memory is bad.

I'm going crazy waiting to see him on the floor again.

I want him back NOW so I can see how much he has improved.
But then again, I don't want him back because I want Kings to have higher chace at lottery pick.

I don't mind him not playing because with as little time some people actually get to play in games, if he was there some would have their minutes limited even more... Then again certain people might play their correct floor positions

I agree it is bizarre unless there is something more than has been said. The "its just not comfortable enough to play on" line isn't doing his rep for tooughness any good either. Nobody is ever 100% in the NBA.

But that said you just don't know how injuries respond, and this year in particular its ok for this to happen. If you're a 50+ win team trying to get over the hump, this sucks and could end up costing you by the end of the season. In our position an extra loss here or there is actually a good thing, as are the even younger guys getting minutes -- something our new coach doesn't seem anymore interested in than our old one. Put Kevin in the lineup, and Donte, JT and Brown may never see the floor again. So whatever. My eyebrows are raised at this point, but however much time he needs, he needs. The absolute worst thing you could do is have him come back early when it doesn't matter in the least, then have him develop something chronic. This year he can't help us do anythign we need to do. But we will need him in the future.

I say sit him out while he recovers.. raise salmons stock.. trade him for a young wing player

right now its not a good idea to bring him back on a gimpy leg especially when cisco is getting more confidence..

if we trade salmons cisco can be our starting SF

I'm not worried about Kevin, at least not yet.

This is the perfect year for him to sit down and fully recover from whatever is ailing him. It gives the young guys more playing time, betters our draft position, highlights Salmons for a potential trade, and gives Garcia more time to gain some chemistry with Spencer and Beno.
If it takes another month for him to recover fully so be it.

In fact, in my mind the ideal situation would be for him to come back to the starting line-up at the same time that Spencer is moved to Center and JT is moved to PF in the starting line-up. I know that's wishful thinking, but I really want to see our future actually play together at the same time to begin to build chemistry.

Now, he was out, what 14 games, with that groin injury last year, and he's been out for a long time for this ankle injury. If later this year, or next year we have Spencer and JT starting, and Kevin has an injury that just continues to linger, then I'll start getting a bit worried. But until we decide to actually play our future players meaningful minutes, I'm fine with him resting till fully recovered.

I could think of many who are in the NBA and are 100%:p

The Bee article sort of answered some questions. I'd rather him be out as long as he needs as well - but when it goes on and on, I become a bit worried about his long term durability. I dont really care about this season as far as getting wins is concerned at this point - I'm just concerned about how long it seems to be taking him to heal, for the sake of his career. Nagging injuries suck.

i want Cisco To lead this team! by that i dont mean only statwise but attitude and heart... i want the players to find themselves and get that offensive confidence. you cant always rely on martin for those 20 plus points...

and for martin i hope he gets stronger and watch some tapes of doug christie playing D

What if they're benching him precisely for this reason? Now, I'm not accusing them of tanking, but what if?

I think they are being more careful than before. I believe he came back too early. He really wanted to play. But, wasn't he still getting fluids building up because of the tendon injury?

That first ankle injury ended up being much much worse than most people realized. It was not a simple ankle sprain. By coming back and injuring it again, it could now be even worse. As Bricklayer said, "In our position an extra loss here or there is actually a good thing, as are the even younger guys getting minutes..."

Two words.

Grant Hill.

How did that work out with him playing through an ankle problem?

great post, we dont need kmart to rush back, we need

Ricky Rubio, Patrick Mills, Jrue Holiday, or Brandon Jennings

Jsut shut K-Mart down this year. Like others have said, no use in re-aggrevating his injury, and were playing for a lotto pick anyways.

Don't like the idea of Kevin not playing this year... despite his status as our top scorer, he still has a lot to learn, and taking a year away from NBA competition is not the way to keep improving.

I sprained my ankle/achilles and was on crutches two weeks, could painfully hobble along on the court after two months. Any little tweak would set it off again, took about a year to get to 95%. Course, I didn't have the treatment resources of an NBA team.

Hopefully Kevin will come back and at least have a strong second half. This would suck for us as a rebuilding year if our brightest star's development takes a step back this season...

Brandon has character issues....petire will not draft him.

Looks like playing in Italy might be helping with that. I still think I like Rubio better though. If he can get that wrist healed up. Actually, it's likely he won't declare this year, so it might not matter anyway.

You don't shut a guy down all year and have him take a season off in his prime. You just play it as cautious as can be when it does not matter. When he;s 100%, bring him back. If this were the playoffs you'd hope he'd be out there right now. But its not, and there will be none this year, so just get it right and then he can play outr the year as normal.

Of course maybe this is all just a very saavy maneuver by Kevin to drive up his value. ;) Wait for us to complete the tough stretch here and come home maybe 7-23 or so, and then come back and help us score some easier wins against lesser opponents and look like the difference maker...hey, it could work.

Ankle sprains can be worse than breaks. It's not bizarre, but it is unfortunate for Kevin. His ankle sprain is probably going to give this team a much higher draft pick. For that, I'm grateful.
