Kevin Love have a shot at the allstar game?

Gary

All-Star
Ya'll know I am a Kevin Love homer since his UCLA days. Wish the Kings had him..

Anyway think he has a shot at the allstar game this year?

In December he's putting up some unreal numbers. 24.5ppg 17.7rpg 3.0apg..

He certainly has a case. Second only to Dirk in PER among all PFs. Gasol's been having a monster season, but is he's been playing mostly C with Bynum out so he should be slotted there.

Don't understand the wailing and gnashing of teeth, though, over why the Kings don't have him. We were never in a position to do so--he was drafted, what, 5th? That said, if there is a silver lining in this story for the Kings it's that clueless coaches can eventually get their act together. Last season Love and Rambis seemed to be a terrible match, but this year they seem to have put things together. Hopefully Westphal and our young players can manage the same.

It was kinda luck that he went at 5th though.. He was touted as a mid 1st rounder most of the year because of his weight, and height.. Then of course he goes to pre-draft combine and is down like 20lbs from his UCLA play weight, and measured like an inch and a half taller than some had suspected. Plus he jumped a lot higher as well. Bassically he had an amazing combine.

If any young big has their first allstar game this year, I think it is going to be Blake Griffin. Dude is a human highlight reel, plays in a bigger market, and we cant forget that the allstar game is a popularity contest.

Love deserves to be an allstar though. Maybe he'll get in on the coach vote, who knows? He doesnt play D, and his defense is pretty lacking...But he's almost averaging 20/16. That is disgusting.

Will Griffin get voted in over Dirk or Gasol? I have my doubts. If it's up to the coaches, I'd think Love gets it over Griffin. Sure, Blake's had some nice highlights, but that team's record is the worst in the league. Coaches don't usually pick guys from crummy teams, especially in their rookie year.

Almost a 40-20 night for love lol.. It's become commonplace for him to be close to 20 boards a night and over 20 points per game.. If he doesn't get into the allstar game I am going to platz!

I'll be shocked if Love doesn't get in. He may be on a bad team but he is putting up some serious numbers that we haven't seen for quite a while. Rebounding at one of the best clips in years. Scoring 20ppg and shooting .435 from 3. When is the last time we've seen a player do that?

Without thinking about all the other bigs in the Western conference (and really, there aren't that many anymore), I'd say Love is a lock. 21 points and 15 rebounds is a better statline than some perennial All Stars have EVER put up (Tim Duncan has never averaged more than 12.9 rpg; Stoudemire, 9.6; Garnett, 13.5; Gasol, 11.3; Dwight Howard, 14.2; and so on...) Love probably doesn't keep that pace up for the entire season, but there's simply no question that he's having an All Star year, and it would be a travesty if he doesn't make it.
