Sacramento 111, Seattle 105

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Bonzi Wells scored 23 points and Kenny Thomas had 17 points and a season-high 18 rebounds as the Sacramento Kingsheaded for the postseason with their ninth victory in 11 games, 111-105 over the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday night.
Mike Bibby scored 21 points and matched his season high with six 3-pointers for the Kings (44-38), who will be the seventh seed in the Western Conference playoffs if the Los Angeles Lakers (43-37) lose to theNew Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night.

If the Lakers win, Sacramento will open its eighth consecutive playoff trip in San Antonio this weekend against the defending NBA champion Spurs.
Thomas and Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored eight points apiece in the fourth as Sacramento made an 18-5 run in the final minutes, rallying from a small deficit with 8 minutes to play for a comfortable win.

But nothing is easy for this club: With 3 minutes to play during the Kings' decisive run, Abdur-Rahim and Thomas got into an animated argument on the way to the bench for a timeout. Teammate Corliss Williamson eventually separated them, and both stayed in the game.

Sacramento took three of four this season from the Sonics, who lost for the fourth time in five games in their first outing since the club announced coach Bob Hill will be back next season.

Ray Allen scored 26 points and Nick Collison matched his career high with 20 for the SuperSonics, who eliminated Sacramento from the playoffs in last season's first round. Seattle will finish its third losing season in four years at home against Denver on Wednesday night.

Rashard Lewis scored 20 points and Luke Ridnour had 14 points and a career-high 15 assists, but both were held scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Collison scored 12 points in the third quarter, and Seattle had nine consecutive points while taking the lead. Ridnour surpassed his previous career high in assists midway through the third -- but Sacramento turned up its defense in the fourth, with Ron Artest shutting down Lewis as Seattle managed just 16 points.

Thomas scored six big points in the final 3:16 -- and his deflection, steal and breakaway dunk with 1:59 left sealed the win.

Artest scored just three points -- his lowest total since joining the Kings in a midseason trade -- on 1-of-11 shooting, but matched his season high with eight assists.

The Kings clinched their eighth consecutive playoff berth shortly before beating New Orleans on Sunday night. Sacramento finished 27-14 at home -- their worst record at Arco Arena in coach Rick Adelman's eight seasons with the club, despite winning 18 of their final 21 home games.

If it happened during a time out, only the people IN Arco would have seen it.

I think it is just one of thoes things that happen in the heat of the momemt, teammates fight but they will get over it. MJ punched steve kerr, Sabonis and Wallace had a heated moment once , things like that just happen wouldn't make much out of it.

I checked my PBP. Just before the time out at 2:54, there were a couple of plays where the spacing was off and I think KT may have been barking to SAR about moving his posterior...

I didn't note it in the PBP but I do remember that was when things really looked ugly and disjointed.

Well MJ/Steve Kerr I do not remember, and obviously Kerr just has to smile and take it, no prob. But Wallace/Sabonis was a disaster for Portland and helped end Sabas's term in Portland as that team fell apart.

well the two did fight before.... (hou vs. atl)

but yeah i hope its nothing serious...

probably just a heat of a moment incident (im hoping) caused by pride...

KT's a hothead. Abdur-Rahim isn't a cheerful persona either.
yeah true i know kenny has got the badboy attitude with his temper and hustle...

but although reef is a great community man, he is not that laid-back as he takes alot of pride in himself... i mean who doesnt? but he does more than others, which is good in a way but bad at times, as it may casue arguements but yeah he takes things pretty seriously, i rarely see him joke around or smile...

saying that however i didnt see the incident soo im not to sure whos fault it was...

best to let this slide and just forget about it... hope the media forgets about it too... i highly doubt it though, they'll thrive upon this incident...

I think people are trying to read way too much into a couple of lines thrown into an article on Yahoo.

And so far the only ones "thriving" on this are ... well, a couple of us. There was NO mention of it whatsoever on the expanded sports coverage on News10.

Whatever it was, it obviously didn't carry over after the time out.

Word on the street is that Kenny got chocolate in Reefs penutbutter, but KT's posse is representing that it was Reef who got penutbutter on Kenny's chocolate! ;)

LOL...now that was funny. :)

KT has always struck me as a ticking time bomb for some reason. I'm sure the whole starting/bench thing hasn't helped tension between them.

However they're both pros so they'd better move on and not let it affect the team.

(Homer Simpson voice):

"...mmm...Reese's Peanut Buuuter Cuuuups!...(drooling)..."

It said on the game recap at yahoo that SAR was throwing out curse words at Thomas during that argument.

Can anyone lip read?

Lip read what? They didn't show anything on TV...

And the first post in this thread is the game recap from Yahoo. It says:

It says animated. I don't see anything about curse words.

Geez.

I suppose you did not read the whole thing:

Abdur-Rahim repeatedly cursed at Thomas during the fight. These two have a history: They were fined and suspended for a fistfight in January 2002 when Abdur-Rahim was with Atlanta and Thomas played for Houston.
"It was a good game tonight," Thomas said when asked about the argument.

FROM ESPN:

"It's just basketball, nothing serious," Abdur-Rahim said. "Just competing, pushing each other. It's just basketball. It would be like me and my brother."Abdur-Rahim repeatedly cursed at Thomas during the fight. These two have a history: They were fined and suspended for a fistfight in January 2002 when Abdur-Rahim was with Atlanta and Thomas played for Houston."It was a good game tonight," Thomas said when asked about the argument.

nothing serious i guess...

Ah, the more complete article, I suppose...

Nope, didn't read it.

Still think it's tempest in a teapot material. And if it's not I hope it's something that stays behind closed doors. Luckily for us, I think Adelman and his coaching staff will make it abundantly clear to both these young men that it's not about their petty little disputes. It's about TEAM.

Wouldn't surprise me if KT was in a bad mood and started something though..

Just saw the local Fox sports report with Jim Krandall. They had a clip of Kenny at the sidelines after the incident and he was mouthing something along the lines of "I ain't helpin' nobody anymore" and "Eff that" while Corliss and Bibby were trying to calm him down.

Krandall suggested it was a lapse on defense that caused it. Who knows...

Fox 40 reported on it and it was something about SAR not helping on defense for KT. Crandell then said if one could read lips it looked like KT said he wasn't going to help. Then in the locker room SAR said what was already reported above. KT, on the other hand, said nothing about it and simply stated something like, "It was a good game."
