Keegan Murray

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but Keegan does the Tennis Grunt on his rebounds and tough takes to the basket. Leads the team in them actually

I wonder if he grunted when he drove hard to the basket early in the first quarter yesterday. It looked like he was trying to dunk the ball, took a shot to the chest and got the bucket. I know Coach Brown has encouraged him to go hard at people at dink on people. Nice to see the improvement in that part of his game.

Indiana might be a threat
yeh they are one of the few teams with cap room. Obviously they have the Ty connection but I wonder how Barnes felt about Rick Carlisle? I think it also depends on what they do with Turner and Buddy. If they are selling off does he want to sign with a team that is on a longer timeline? If they keep Buddy does he want to recreate 3/5 of the starting unit of last years Kings team?

Barnes is probably fine with him considering those years in Dallas were by far his highest usage years.

Keegan needs to work on two things right now.

1. Being more aggressive/decisive on his drives and attacks. They are telegraphed and a bit passive.

2. Rebounding. He needs to be in the 6-8rpg category at his size. I know Domas gobbles up the lions share, but he also doesn't go after balls outside his zone very often.

Agreed. Though a lot of that lack of aggressiveness, I think, stems from him being the last option in the offense on a team with good vets. Fox, Huerter, Monk, Barnes, Davion, TD and Domas are all capable of driving and kicking to open shooters so there's no reason for him to force anything. If he's open, he shoots it and if he's not he swings it. As his role increases in the next few years and some of those vets move on I think we'll see a lot more of the post-ups and dribble drive moves from Keegan that he used in college. And that will also bring more assists and offensive rebounds. He's doing exactly what we need him to do as a rookie -- focus on his shooting and defense and let the other elements of the game come in time. The ROY award is essentially meaningless -- Banchero will probably win it and I don't care, as long as we make the playoffs.

Keegan has as much swag as I do. As a 47 year old white guy, that’s not a lot.
It's part of what makes him a totally focused good pro from day one. He doesn't spend any energy on caring about "swag". He already carried himself as a pro in college, which is a rare thing these days. I can't think of another top 5 pick in the last 15 or so years who was as professional as Murray from the start
