K-Mart's extension

No. You give him a nice big contract to make him stay. Max contract? I don't think so. He doesn't do enough to get a max, he's not a superstar that will take you all the way. That said, I'd do almost anything to keep him. I love the kid!

Can someone who knows where to look up player contracts and the terms look this info up. I could have sworn last off season the kings picked up a 3 year option on both Martin's and Garcia's contract.

Could it have been this?

KINGS EXERCISE OPTION ON GUARD KEVIN MARTIN

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – The Sacramento Kings today exercised their 2007-08 option on guard Kevin Martin, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. In accordance with the league’s collective bargaining agreement, the Kings had until October 31st to exercise their option on Martin.

Kevin's rookie deal ends after next year. Until the last CBA, ALL rookie contracts were 3 years, + 1 year at the team's option. We took the option, so that made it 4 years basically. Next year is year 4. So next summer Kevin will be a restricted free agent.

As for max money: no. And hopefully not from anybody else either. That's for franchise guys. And Kevin is an off guard as well -- you pay a premium for bigs sometimes, but shouldn't apply here. But we had better pencil in about a $10 million hole in our cap there, because when a guy averages 20ppg you're not going to get him for much cheaper.

I'd say 8-10 million. The high end only if he improves in other areas besides scoring, the low end if he levels out. I don't think you can pay much more than that for a 2 guard unless they completely dominate the game. There's just way too many talented players at that spot to blow 1/5th your cap space on when even moderately talented big men command far higher price tags.

I'd say 8-10 million.
thats the price range im thinking too. but i think there are teams out there that would offer more. example is Orlando, if Carter isnt available, they would go after Martin whos much younger. If a 30 yr old Peja can get $13mil a yr, i think Martin can too.

^^^ Trailer Park Boys!! ^^^ :D:D:D

6 year 70 mil...

You would have to figure by the middle of his contract that he would be a steal.

Sounds about right to me, too.

Guys like Raja Bell make around $5M.

The Manu Ginobili-Jamal Crawford-Rip Hamilton crowd make in the $7M-$10M range.

Guys like Michael Redd and Kobe Bryant make $13M-$18M.

Franchise-killing albatrosses like Michael Finley and Eddie Jones also make $13M-$20M. Most huge contracts for SGs end up being regretted. Ask any Cleveland fan.

$8M-$10M ought to do. But, ultimately, it should be for as little as he'll take. It's not like anyone else can sign him to an extension, so the cheaper the better.
