You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Something Zanesville native Kevin Martin doesn't have to worry about with his new mentor in Sacramento.
The Kings introduced Reggie Theus as the team's new head coach Wednesday and one of the first and only players he's gotten to meet so far was K-Mart.
Martin was busy working out by himself in the Kings practice facility when he was introduced and met with Theus for 10 minutes.
Theus replaces the fired Eric Musselman and becomes Martin's third coach in as many years in the NBA. Previously, he spent two seasons coaching at New Mexico State where he led the Aggies to a dramatic turnaround and NCAA tournament appearance.
He played 14 years in the NBA, including a stop in Sacramento, but has been away from the league since 1991 when he retired from playing.
That fact may have made him a darkhorse hire for the position, however in a phone interview Wednesday night, Martin told WHIZ that Theus seems plenty ready for the job. Plus, it doesn't hurt when the new coach likes your game.
