You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Something Zanesville native Kevin Martin doesn't have to worry about with his new mentor in Sacramento.

The Kings introduced Reggie Theus as the team's new head coach Wednesday and one of the first and only players he's gotten to meet so far was K-Mart.

Martin was busy working out by himself in the Kings practice facility when he was introduced and met with Theus for 10 minutes.

Theus replaces the fired Eric Musselman and becomes Martin's third coach in as many years in the NBA. Previously, he spent two seasons coaching at New Mexico State where he led the Aggies to a dramatic turnaround and NCAA tournament appearance.

He played 14 years in the NBA, including a stop in Sacramento, but has been away from the league since 1991 when he retired from playing.

That fact may have made him a darkhorse hire for the position, however in a phone interview Wednesday night, Martin told WHIZ that Theus seems plenty ready for the job. Plus, it doesn't hurt when the new coach likes your game.

I think Reggie and Kevin will get along just fine, along with everyone else on our team. I think we'll see some harmony on and off the court while Reggie is here(hopefully for a LONG time), which cant be a bad thing, and should translate into a great working relationship and personal understanding.

I think Reggie has that intangible. He is supposedly a great guy. I had a good experience with him when I was 12 years old, and he was in Sacramento playing for the Kings. I was courtside waiting for autographs, and he was signing pretty much evertything that was put infront of him with a big smile on his face. Plus he shook my dads hands, and thanked him for being a fan. He is a class act.

This is the kind of thing we need for this franchise. He WILL get the players respect. That is square one. Square two is the Xs and Os. He has some experience, but with his wealth of knowledge, and high BBall IQ I don't think this will be an issue for him. Also, he loves the own of Sacramento. He said this when we were losing. He would back the Kings when he was brodcasting.

I think he will be a perfect fit. He will have a longer leash than Musselman did. Hope he uses the players the way they were meant to be used.
