What was the lowest seed ever to win a championship? Who was it? What year? Their record?

Does anyone know the answer to any/all of these? I was just wondering.

I'm pretty sure it was Houston as a 6th seed in the mid 90's. Also, in the lockout year the Knicks made it to the NBA finals as an 8th seed.

The Knicks were the 8th seed in '99 and made it to the Finals only to lose to the Spurs in a sweep...i was a Knicks fan then so that memory is still rather vivid in my memory...but as for your actual question as to who actually won with the lowest seed...i have no idea....

Yes, Houston would have to be your shining light if you were trying to win a title that way, but their situation was much different than ours -- defending champs, still with the best (in shape) player in the world on their team etc. The Knick team was actually more similar to us -- team in transition during the twilight years of a long stretch of deep playoff runs, lost its aging superstar for the playoffs etc. Difference there was that a) it was a strike year, so everything was kind of unsettled; and b) that that was the beginning of the post-MJ era in the Eastern conference where tehre were basically no great teams, and very few good ones. Best teams were basically 50 win squads, so not much to overcome if you're a darkhorse.

you were a knicks fan then ? ha what do you do, switch teams every couple of years ?

^ i sense sarcasm in that question

the first two years i started watching basketball i was a knick fan cuz at the time i got EVERY SINGLE knick game that came on tv...so it was hard not to ignore them...but then Chris Webber who was my favorite player at the time got moved from Washington to Sactown...so i ended up watching a lot of Sac games...and eventually i realized i liked Sac a lot more than i ever liked the knicks...and then i became a Sac fan through and through...though i did still keep up with the comings and goings of the Knicks but once JVG left i jumped off that boat...lol...i knew they were never going to be the same again...besides i was never a real hardcore/loyal fan...just a fan of their work :)

no 4th seed has ever won a championship

Very few non-1st or 2nd seeds have. I've done this a few times and am not in the mood of compiling the stats again, but in the modern era (defined as after the wacky 70's when the NBA/ABA split and too much LSD turned the whole NBA world upsiode down and all sorts of crazy stuff happened) all but a handful of champs have had one of the two or three best records in the league the year they won it. Basketball is the worng sport if you want true surprise champs -- you can generally see championship mettle all season long.

Does any one realy hold out hope for Championship this season? I though we were now hopeing for a second round apearance and if the stars aling right WCF... but I have to appreciate enduring faith!
