How would you guys feel about making a move for Josh Smith? We have plenty of pieces the Hawks might be interested in like Landry, Garcia, Beno, Dalembert, or mabye even Casspi or Whiteside. I know were stacked at the SF/PF positions and in need of some more shooting but he still brings alot to the table.
 
No. His contract has him earning around 37 million over the next 3 years. He doesnt address a need that the team has. we would have to give up multiple players to get him, unless we traded Dalembert but that would be stupid as Sam is a large expriring contract. There currently would be no scenario in which the Kings could win in a deal involving Josh Smith.
 
a) I would only be interested in him as a SF -- you will never win anything that matters with him as a "power" forward

b) I would not be interested in giving up the pieces that it would take. This would be the epitome of buy high.

Let them use him to try to get Paul. I'll take my mega frontcourt and twin tower SFs and crush his tweener *** next time we meet.

So who are these twin tower SFs?? Donte and...... WHITESIDE!!!

I would also only like him as a SF on our team. Thats how I've always seen him really.
 
I would love to have Josh Smith on our team. We would be ready to contend if we got him without trading anyone named Tyreke, Donte, or Cousins.

Man, can you imagine that defense?!

Smith, Cousins, and Dalembert all on the court at the same time would be ridiculous....

Color me interested. He's a perfect fit next to Cousins moving forward. Some say he's out of position at PF but I'll take the DPOY candidate who doesn't "fit" any day of the week. His shotblocking next to Cousins would be very complimentary.
 
I'm a huge fan of Smoove.

He may be a tweener, but he's like...The ultimate tweener :p

We would have to give up some young prospects to land him, but considering he's under 25 thats not that bad. In terms of talent Josh Smith >>>>> Greene/Casspi. He's still young enough to improve those SF skills as well, I'd definately prefer him at the 3.

But really, Hawks...WTF? I mean, they were pathetic against the Magic in the playoffs (easy to see that one coming, Howard vs two guys playing out of position in the frontcourt...Not gonna be pretty) but the FO over in Hotlanta is really blowing it. They sign JJ to a max contract, are trying to get Shaq (who is what, 70?), and are shipping off Josh Smith (who finally started playing smarter last season, seeing a huge spike in his fg% as a result)? I'd hate to be a Hawks fan right now.
 
Smith is absolutely awesome in my opinion; His rebounding was excellent in the playoffs despite playing for the most lackluster team i have ever seen; Smith was the only stand out in that Hawks team post-season.

As good as he is i wouldn't like to move any of the names mentioned at the top to pull him in.

Very smart and straight to the point posting. I agree and I hope the crushing happens sooner than later.
 
This is nothing against Smith. Actually I think he's a good fit on the Hawks and not a good fit on the Kings. He's another player without a true position. I'll grant you that he's made the best of it, but at PF he's somewhat undersized, and more of a slasher than a post player. At SF you have a player thats a terrible shooter from the outside. I believe his 3 pt shooting percentage is somewhere in the 20% range. So he scores most of his points close to the basket. So does Tyreke, and so will Cousins, and by the way, what few points Dalembert scores will be near the basket. Add Smith to the mix and it starts to get very crowded around the basket and it also makes the Kings very easy to defend. No one guards him on the perimiter. He took a grand total of 7 shots from beyond the arc last season and missed all 7.

If he could play SF, then I'd be on board simply because of the defense he brings. But without the outside shot there's no way he's effective at the SF postion. When you add in that he's owed 12 to 13 mil for the next three years, I just don't see us commiting to him. To think he would automaticly make us a playoff contender is ridiculous. Last year in his first year as a King, Landry averaged 18 PPG and 6.5 RPG. Last year Smith averaged 15.7 PPG and 8.7 RPG. So offensively its almost a push. What you would be gaining is his defense. And while its notable, its hardly enough to suddenly make us a playoff contender.

This in no way means I dislike Smith. I just don't think that he's what the team needs right now. We have a need at SG and backup PG. Especially someone that can help stretch the defense with his outside shot. We're fine at center and were fine at PF and were fine at SF. We need those three positions to simmer a little longer and see what they taste like. Like any good brew, the longer it simmers, the more aquainted the flavors become. And if I might continue this metaphor a little longer. Its important to add the right ingredients if you want the right outcome.

Like others have said Smith makes wayy too much money to block shots and dunk plus he has virtually dissapeared these last 2 playoff outings, so I doubt even if he got us there that he would even be a factor in keeping us alive in the post season.

This makes me think of how under important(If that's even a word haha) I think Donte Greene looked at in the grand scheme of things. With his height and shooting skills does anybody get giddy when thinking about just how AWESOME this dude could be if he focused on his shooting and shot blocking? We'd pretty much have the same thing Josh Smith brings to the table and our deadly spot up shooter to boot. I really think he could grow into that type of player, he just has to get the minutes this year.

That is a big IF.

I wish someone close to Donte Greene can tell him this thing. This is his third season and he needs to show a crystal clear consistency on those areas. On the other hand, maybe it is Westphal that needs to be told that Donte Greene should have more chance to show he can be consistent at shot blocking and shooting.

I think somebody needs to tell Westphal as well to give Donte the time he needs to grow, I don't think his problem is effort when it comes to staying in PW's rotation I always thought it was bonehead mistakes that took him out. When is his rookie contract up anyways? I'm sure he's gonna be eager to show he can really play then. Hopefully this season if he gets the minutes he can produce all the time because in certain games he showed flashes of EVERYTHING he could bring, I just wanna see him put it all together he has the potential to be SCARY out there.
