Josh McRoberts

I was checking out some mock drafts and a couple of them ranked McRoberts around picks 8 thru 10. I then checked out some of his videos on Youtube and noticed that he is athletic and has game on both ends of the floor.

Maybe someone can post a better scouting report who has seen more than handful of Youtube videos.

No problem whatsoever. I didn't read the thread so I don't know if there's anything in there that might answer your question or not...

McRoberts' stock really fell this year, so those mocks you are looking at with him in the #8 to #10 range probably haven;t been updated since the early season. As it stands now he's probably a #15-#20 guy. Lot of skill, but never able to consistently exert it at the college level and rarely dominant.

He has underachieved in college, but he still has lottery talent and is still a good prospect. If he didn't have such high expectations he'd probably be talked about more.

The guy cries on the bench during regular season losses and is Charmin' Soft. On the other hand, it would be really sweet to watch guys like Dwight Howard posterize McRoberts and Miller all game.

McRoberts is a GUARANTEED BUST!!!!

McRoberts and Noah are why I cannot stand NBA scouting and general managing. Two half-*** prospects slated to go in the lottery by every scout alive.

McRoberts hasn't really been projected lottery lately.

Quick question for those who actually saw him play: you ask him to play like Brand, Boozer and Williams, why should he look good? There's one word to describe his season - frustration. He couldn't wait to declare and only because of politeness he didn't declare midseason. I'm not sure he'll be an All-Star but bordeline All-Star for sure. He would have probably been All-American maybe even First Team if he played for Georgetown.

Have you really watched him? I guess he'd be better in a Princeton O, but he was never very good and hardly assertive.

Please explain to me why and how he would be better in Georgetown. I suppose Green and Hibbert would have helped mask his poor defense, but in what way would he have excelled there as opposed to Duke? I don't think you understand how the Princeton works, but I'll you the chance to prove it.

He's a passing bigman, that's why he thinks he would be better there.

How often would he have the ball in his hands to make those passes? For example, Packer killed Green on Saturday for not taking over the game, but Green was just running the offense. Considering that McRoberts already plays for one of the only good coaches in the NCAA ,who is more than capable of maximizing the talent of his players, I do not think that playing in the rigidity of a Princeton hybrid would attenuate his skills. If anything, he would fade into the flow of the game even more. McRoberts problem is lack of intensity, timidity, and his inability to improve from last year. Also throw in lack of leadership. It does not matter what school he played for because he would still be a timid big man who does not work on his game/body enough to show a desire to improve.

McRoberts played the whole season with 4 guys at or below 6-6 (ok, I can give you 15 mpg from 6-8 Lance Thomas) and was asked to do what Brand, Boozer and Williams did - man the paint. And he has(d) exactly zero chances of doing so. He's a forward, not center. And he's not a scorer, more accurately he's not a finisher so he has to dominate the ball to be effective. And please drop all this crap about Coach K adjusting his system to his players and playing to their strengths. If that were true Duke would play very fast. Henderson probably went from one and done to 4-year player.
If you watched GT against OSU you would see that Lighty successfully denied Green position on the block and that's what kept him from scoring.
And for Georgetown McRoberts would play PF which is his natural position since he's face-up and not post player.

todd fuller the second in my opinion...

mabye a little better in the passing department but thats about it... even todd fuller did well in college...

Brand, Boozer, and Williams; all happened to be smaller then McRoberts and still play like men. McRoberts is a punk, doesn't matter what system he is in. He is mentally weak and does not put the work in the gym or the weight room to garner the attention that he does.

By the way, if Coach K sped up the game with his lack of ballhandlers it would be turnover city, and they would get blown out every night. Conversely, if McRoberts ever played like a man they would have been alot more effective in the half court. Duke had so much mismatched talent I think Petrie recruited them. ;)

What do you mean by "smaller"? -1 inch in height or +15 or more pounds?

Height, none of those guys is over 6'8". But yes, they all weighed more because they hit the weight room, which is what big men who want to get better do.

Pre-draft everybody listed Boozer at 6'9", Williams is officially 6'7 1/2" without shoes which means he's 6'9" as well. Yes, Brand is 6'8" but his arms longer than Mcroberts'.

If he is 6'7" w/out shoes then he is 6'7". Is he the only one on the court with shoes on? This is ridiculous. You have a million excuses for McRoberts but don't think much of Oden because he is supposed to dominate. Absurd.

I respect your ignorance but everybody is listed at the height which players "use" on the court i.e. height in shoes. McRoberts is 6' 8" - 6'9" barefoot.

Playing basketball in high heels....interesting.

Can we stop talking about height it honestly doesn't matter when it comes to players that much. Biggest issue with McRoberts is he has been a huge disappointment in college. I guess he could out perform his college performance, but it still won't make him not soft like he was at Duke.

In honestly a disappointing 2005 HS class, he was voted the best player of that class.

Those in it:

2) Gerald Green
3) Monta Ellis
4) Martell Webster
5) Louis Williams
6) Andray Blatche
7) Tyler Hansbrough
8) Julian Wright
9) Andrew Bynum
10) CJ Miles

Other players of note, none really that would be considered great pro prospects other than Brandon Rush.

Venom and Gilles - You're kidding, right? If you're going to continue the lunacy about with shoes/without shoes, please do so via PMs.

Thanks ever so...

Oh come on, the thought of players in high heels, isn't the least bit entertaining...

Why? Length(or height until we know measurements is very important in predicting prospects - just ask Billy Knight about drafting PF with 8'8" standing reach).

He might be a good pick up late in the draft because of his size and since we are so damn short up front.
