Josh Harrelson:

bajaden

Hall of Famer
Not sure this is worth starting a thread over, but Harrelson was released today by the Rockets. He's not the greatest athlete in the world, but he does know how to play in the post, and he's very smart and crafty. He's 6'10" and around 260. I just thought he might be someone that we should look at as a fifth big, if we're not going to trade for another big man.

Everyone thought he was just another big slow white guy when he played Cousins backup at Kentucky. But the next year on the team with Knight, he put up very good numbers both in scoring and rebounding, as well as playing very smart defense in the post. I'm certainly not going overrate him, but he's just the kind of guy thats perfect as your emergency big man at the end of the bench.

I remember when he was raining down 3's on us out of nowhere
But, I'll take him as a cheap big. We're not exactly deep at the 5 position.

I was actually going to start this thread a few hours ago but decided against it. I'm glad you did though!

I really like him. I'd certainly bring him in for a look.

He's actually a pretty good player, at least from a skills point of view. I think he surprised everyone his senior year. He can do a little bit of everything. Good passer out of the post. Sets very good screens. Defends the pick and roll very well. He can shoot the ball from the top of the key, and he's surprisingly good in the post. Not spectacular, but very solid.

I'd do it.

I wonder what kind of relationship he has with Cousins.

Far as I know, he has a good relationship with Cuz. He didn't get a lot of minutes when Cuz was there. Cuz got most of the minutes, and Daniel Orton was the first man off the bench. Turns out, he has more skills than Orton.

With the Lakers acquisition of Howard we're going to need more fouls to use against him if we choose to hack-a-howard. This guy is as good as anyone out there to play that role. And what about injuries? We need more depth at the 4-5 spot.

There is another guy out there, but I've been reluctant to bring him up. And thats Andry Blatche. A couple of years ago, he looked like a potential star on the rise. He got an extension, and showed up for training camp out of shape, and over weight. He's a very talented player, but the question is, has he learned his lesson? He's proved he can play in this league. If he would sign for the league mininum, then he wouldn't be much of a gamble. Still, I'm not sure I'm willing to take a chance on him. It appears that the Heat are taking a look at Harrelson. He's probably good enough to play for the Heat, but no good enough to play for us......
