That's straight from PDA. Calderon may be the backup plan if we don't get Iggy. Evans/Mclemore/Calderon makes some sense as a 3 guard rotation. If we sign him PDA is going to have his work cut out for him trying to trade away guards

That's true, to a point. But I'll keep repeating that Malone has in fact coached Thornton before, and it just so happened to be the same period when the Hornets benched Thornton for lack of defense. I still will be surprised if he's a King this fall.

I assumed MT would be gone about midway through last season. He was replaced by McLemore. Who does McCallum replace? Does he replace an almost never used Douglas? Does he replace Aldrich? I assume this will all be straightened out but so far I am shaking my head.

I am sure we will interview someone tall in the FA process but so far, as brick has pointed out, we have interviewed no one and drafted no one taller than 6'6".

I do agree it would be nice if the Kings brain trust would at least TALK to a big defensive specialist. Heck even a media blurb about Cole Aldrich would be wonderful

Truth be told, I'm an IT fan, and I realize I probably rate him above a lot of this board. I wouldn't just think of relegating him to the end of the bench or trading him to pay Calderon a big contract. IT has heart, is young, clutch, is beloved by the community and changes the complexions of games around with his energy.. I don't see the need necessarily to upgrade backup pg (assuming Reke is positioned as the starting pg).. If Reke isn't brought back then I might have a change of opinion

I think that's one of Iggy's strengths, that is to be able to create opportunities for himself and others. However, he also manages in that Kirilenko role where his unselfishness allows the ball to move around and either he drives and kicks, or drives for his own shot. He initiates the play right away and doesn't wait around.

I'm no expert on Iggy, but I thought he was more of the finisher/slasher type as opposed to the facilitator type. Maybe the Iggy experts can weigh in on that.

They let Douglas go. I guess they could bring him back. If there's anybody on our roster that epitomized both defense and great work habits it had to be Douglas. If they want to cement that culture, he would seem to be the guy (unless they have somebody like Tony Allen in mind).

I think a starting backcourt of Reke and Calderon would work great with MLM coming off of the bench. Gives someone who shares the ball and can knock down the open shot. He might be the backup signing if we miss out on Iggy, in reality I think part of this is sort of a showing to the pistons that we are meeting with your guy if you're meeting with ours. The pistons have publicly said that they would perfer to have Calderon back.

Interesting take. Sounds like the knight fork move in chess. DA gets a backup plan for Tyreke (or maybe Plan A) and he issues a threat to Detroit all at the same time.

Iggy has averaged 5 assists a game for his career. Thats a lot of assists to average for someone not playing the PG position. He's an excellent passer, but more than anything else, he knows how to play the game. He knows how to play team defense, while being a very good individual defender as well. He's never been a great outside shooter, but he's not terrible either! You have to guard him, and he'll damm well guard you.\

Andres a better facilitator then Evans IMO, He uses his excellent ballhandling too slash into the lane then he finds the open man, he likes to throw Lobs too, which would be good for Mclemore. He scores mostly off hard slashes/cuts to the net, spot up threes, alley oops, offensive rebound put backs. Hes got a decent 18 footer off the dribble aswell. Then his best aspect is obviously his defense, similar too a Kawhi Leonard In that aspect I would say.

The big thing with him is his unselfishness.

the FO is certainly doing its diligence. that much i can appreciate. they've assured demarcus cousins that they have every intention of keeping him. they're big believers in their draft pick, ben mclemore. and they appear to want to keep tyreke evans, as well (although i want to see rubber meet road on 'reke's contract). so they've got at least two roster spots filled, with a third up in the air. as for the rest? i imagine ranadive/d'allesandro/malone see what most of us see: ill-fitting parts, not a one of which isn't expendable...

i'm a minor fan of jose calderon, though he's hardly a defensive upgrade over marcus thornton and isaiah thomas. that said, he's not a chucker, and he moves the ball extremely well. so i say start tyreke and mclemore, trade thornton (and jimmer, if possible), bring calderon off the bench as a sixth man, and shift isaiah thomas into a role as the fourth guard in the rotation. that's a backcourt with some serious potential...

Agree mostly, although I think the FO thinks quite highly of McCallum, so that would give us five guards, with McCallum taking a year to develop/adjust to the NBA... if we works out, trade IT. Either way I agree, that's a NICE picture, with a little flexibility/potential at the end of the guard bench. I like it. Now if we can just trade what we have now...

You know, I've always liked Calderon. Very smart player. Had we never drafted McLemore, and committed to Evans at the SG spot I would have been very into the idea of signing him. Calming veteran presence who can really shoot it ans get everyone involved.

With this roster, though, it's hard to see where he fits until some other shoes drop.
