John Wall anyone? (split from Martin thread...)

What makes you think the Kings are going to get John Wall?

At this rate we shoudl have a 20+% chance at it, so that's enough to dare to dream. :)

But sure, probably not, but there look to be other juicy little tidbits at the top of the next draft as well. As long as Kevin recovers 100% from this thing, and it is just a broken arm after all so he should, it could even work in our favor. Our kids get development time, we move closer to landing another talented one in the draft, then Kevin comes back off of ice + at some point here we will have simply accumulated enouguh talent that this thing turns. Either the kids themsevles turn it, or we are in positon to make a gigantic Boston style push while shooting kids and picks all over the league.

Does anyone think youngster John Wall (should the Kings get him) would come in and start tearing it up in the NBA at its most demanding position - PG? He might, but Wall would be a big exception since we know how long it normally takes to "do it" regardless of collegiate or high school talent.

Unless the Kings want to wait until around 2014-15 for him to really come into his own at the next level, maybe Kings would be better off looking to the FA market for a big time PG - if that's what they will be seeking next year. Also, for what it's worth, Minny is said now likely to trade the rights to Rubio since they have come to really like Flynn.

Well, we'll just have to see how he does in college.

And using logistical statistics (not really), since we lost out on Blake Griffin in the previous draft, we have extra percentage for getting the first pick in the next one. I mean, what are the chances of getting screwed over twice?

100%... were the Kings.

Ah, the Spurs/Celtics rebuilding blueprint. Works for them.

I think this gets overstated sometimes. DRose did it jsut last year, so did Westbrook by the end of the year. CP3 was good in his firs year, great by his thrid (and really only held back in his second by injury). Deron got it going in year 2 after the obligatory year 1 hazing by Sloan. PGs emerge as fast as anybody else. Which doesn't mean Wall will walk on into the league and average 25pts 10ast 3stl and 2blk in his first season, just that if he turns out to be as good as people think we'll know in a hurry and he would be the favorite to win Rookie of the Year.

He's an athletic Phenom... there s no one in the league that can stay in front of that kid. He's also long... if tyreke can learn to play off the ball a little better they could be a nasty back court. The biggest thing tyreke can do for his game is learn to shoot at a decent clip. That way Wall and dribble drive and kick out to out to tyreke who can either shoot or drive to a defense that is still trying to adjust back from the pervious penetration.

Assuming that nothing goes horribly awry in the next 7 months, and he continues to look like the best player in this draft, HELL YES.

Those are big if's, but right now the kid looks like a lock. He's going to a good team that should make a splash in the tourney, so we should get a lot of looks at him. This would be a good draft to have another 1st round pick in. Not sure how to do that other than through a trade. I can hope..

Unless the Maloofs pony up the money to "win" the first overall draft pick, the chances are pretty slim. Seriously, how often does the first overall pick have to go to a big market team with impossible odds for somebody to figure out that its rigged?

Maybe not, but it sure seems like it sometimes... Hopefully the Kings come out the winner on the long odds next draft! That is what the Kings need to generate excitement, a first overall draftpick who is a sure thing. Just think how jazzed up the fans would have been if we had gotten the first overall this year and had Blake Griffin? That would be huge! It would sell season tickets and get the plans moving forward on a new arena. It takes something spectacular like that to really get the fans motivated to come out to the games and fill the seats. Lets hope the odds are in our favor in 2010 and WE get lucky for a change...

Didn't you guys get the message? Wall and Evans as the backcourt; Rudy Gay at the three. I thought everybody knew...

I wish I could find my old post debunking this, but suffice it to say that big market teams have almsot NEVER won the lottery in a year when winning it would really be exciting. Its been 25 years since the Patrick Ewing thing. Since then Shaq comes out...and Orlando gets the pick. LeBron comes out...and Cleveland gets the pick. Oden comes out...and Portland gets the pick. San Antonio wins it twice to nab Robinson and Duncan, Orlando wins it again to get Howard...if somebody in the league office is trying to rig things for big market teams he's a complete and utter failure.

But the nature of conspiracy theories is that the Knicks will eventually get another #1 just by landing in the lottery year after year after year. And no matter how long its been since the last time they won it, conspiracy geeks will rush out of the woodwork to announce it had to be cheating.

What did Patrick Ewing do that was so remarkable at least against top playoff competition? His team only made it to the NBA finals once where he was promptly dominated by Hakeem (Akeem at that time) Olajuwon. Then Olajuwon next season was even more thorough in destroying a young Shaq as his team won title in a sweep. Ewing was only the 3rd or 4th best center of his era IMO. The Rockets (a big market who got lucky) might have had best draft luck for big men ever by selecting back-to-back number one's Ralph Sampson ('83) and Olajuwon ('84). Because of Sampson's injury problems he didn't pan out as an elite big man during that era but I rate Olajuwon clearly the best with David Robinson (small market) behind him, and Ewing further down the NBA center totem pole.
