Joerger building staff

She's been shown working with various players in occasional clips from the practice facility. She's also one of the assistants several key players could be seen talking to during timeouts or during instant replay reviews. If she wasn't competent I think some rumblings would have surfaced by now - and to the best of my knowlege none have.

The thing about Nancy was that she had little coaching resume of any note before coming in. Not even remotely in the league of a top assistant. She was basically hired because of who she was rather than what she had accomplished as a coach. The fact she was a woman could have easily entered into hiring her. Or that she was a legendary female player.
But she was on staff all last year. And whether she's qualified to be a head coach or not, she obviously knows the game, the roster, the front office, and is more than qualified to work guys out or be a non-lead assistant. And the guys, Cousins especially, seemed to like her. So why wouldn't you keep her around? In a lot of ways her being underqualified really drops her below the level of the normal coaching staffs loyal to a particular head coach. If Corliss is a King for life and Cuz's personal coach, Nancy is non-threatening (unless you are Karl) MacGuyver assistant who knows everybody, works well with them, can work them out, assist where needed, and do it without an agenda. I would hope Joerger had the right to dump her if he wanted to, but why would you? She looks like a low level positive, and you can go ahead and put together the rest of your staff with a little extra support. Helps continuity and there is no cost there. She's not going to fight your philosophy. She's not after your job. She's wedded to the franchise and maybe Cuz, and is just there to help. So why would you get rid of her unless you were a lot more insecure than Joerger appears to be?

Its too bad Darren had to take this opportunity to do something idiotic, because otherwise there is a nice calm settling in. Its the best I've felt about our Gm/coach/star situation since about 2002. For those looking honestly you could see Vlade putting this into motion last year, but now, everything is being done right. Nothing huge yet. Just a lot of right solid moves replacing the impulsive noveau reinvent the game stuff that came with a rookie owner.

Could not agree more! This season was a bit of a settling in period for Peja in terms of his responsibilities with the D-League team but even with Vlade is some ways as he made a number of very solid moves last off season in terms of roster and he didn't panic and just left it until this off-season.
It will be really interesting to see what we do during the off-season in terms of draft, trades and free agency. I think the coaching staff will work itself out with Joerger picking his guys but personnel moves will be very interesting.

I'm really happy about the change in Reno. I never understood the idea of having your D-League team essentially play sandlot basketball. Common sense is starting to prevail. Amazing!

Coaching staff looks pretty deep, not flashy but a lot of guys from Memphis:
Head Coach: Dave Joerger
Old assistants from Memphis: Turner, Ticknor, March
Assistants from last year: Williamson, Lieberman
Other Team: Gates
From what ive read so far it seems that Gates is good at player development, March is a video/game play guy and Ticknor is an 30 year dleague, CBA and IBA veteran from whom Joerger knows that he has his back

Yeah I just got this in my email. Looks good to me - if Dave is happy I'm happy.
Sort of had this pipe dream idea that Doug could join the staff but I like him on the TV anyway so it's all good.
Now on to the business of getting Scot Pollard as a scout. Would have saved us a lot of grief by now if we had him the last several years (would have avoided TRob and BMac)

Amazing that there have been no real leaks. This whole Joerger thing feels blue collar and professional. This is what we've been needing.
On a side note, Corliss must really be something special to keep his spot through all of these coaching changes. Glad he's still around.

Unfortunately, I don't think ownership would have dissuaded from selecting either TRob or BMac.
Corliss is really something special, and he's always had the love and support of the fans. I was at his last home game (or one of his last games) before he retired. He hadn't played all night and he most likely wouldn't have, except that some voices in the crowd started to chant "We want Corliss!" Corliss sat on the bench and smiled and even waved an acknowledgment to the crowd - which, of course, exhorted us to even louder chanting. He was finally put in and got one last roar of Arco Thunder. It still gives me goose bumps to think about it.
Corliss was never THE guy but he was always our guy, even when he played on other teams. He truly has the heart of a King.

The update on Pope's promotion and Hartfield joining the ranks is pretty minor. But just like all the news this offseason it's seemingly positive.
I think we can all agree that the business side of the Kings has been doing a phenomenal job. Just reading this article (and watching the video) confirmed yet again that Vivek, Chris Granger and everyone involved on that side of things is killing it.

The new logo and it's unveiling was yet another great example and I have high hopes for the new uniforms.
So we've all been waiting for the basketball side of things to catch up and hold up their end of things by putting great players in those uniforms and a winning team in that amazing new arena.
It's going to be a long offseason but every day I'm starting to feel better and better about the organization and performance of the front office and coaching staff. We're no longer hearing a flood of leaked information from the Kings. Vlade made what looks like a great hire in Catanella and with Stojakovic, Bratz and Beech it seems like a very solid front office. The coaching search seemed to drag on and on without a lot of promising names but for Divac to swoop in and grab Joerger seemed like a coup. Joerger's staff is solid - love that Turner is back in town and that Corliss and Liebermann were retained - and FINALLY it seems like we have a coach and a GM on the same page. The announcement that Arsenault wouldn't be retained and that Peja wanted a new coach that would align more closely to what Joerger wants to do on the NBA level is just more evidence. And while they didn't quite work out as planned I understood everything Vlade tried to do last summer including pursuing Wes Matthews, signing Rondo, Belinelli & Koufos, drafting WCS, nabbing Seth Curry etc.
With D'Alessandro there were so many things that just did not make sense to me. Royce White? Landry? Trading for Williams only to then trade for Rudy? Letting Tyreke and IT walk for nothing? Drafting disappointing SGs two years in a row? All the leaked reports to the media? Firing Mike Malone? Wanting to play faster despite not having the roster for it?
I was always in fear that one of the really stupid rumors about the Kings would be true - like the idea that they would trade Collison, Williams and Thompson for a broke down Deron Williams on a completely awful contract primarily so they could get Mason Plumlee. Everything seemed so random and with no sense of stability.
Now every time there's Kings news it's good. It's confirming that Vlade runs a tight ship. That all the major players are on the same page.
That basketball operations are now in good hands.
And I think what Vivek, Divac, Catanella, Peja, Bratz, Beech, Joerger & his assistants and the rest of the basketball side of things are building is a positive culture that will lead to stability, a bright future and (finally) to more wins than losses.
Go Kings.

You came close to covering everything. It is interesting to be a fan of a team where change or lack of change makes sense and we can look forward to further change IF it is thought necessary.
I do not know why Vlade came back. Maybe I missed the memo. This seemed to be the one move to set everything else onto the proper path. We are lucky to have an excited owner who seems willing to do whatever is necessary. We also are lucky that he has learned to keep his mouth shut. To be as positive as possible, I suspect Vivek detected huge leadership holes on this team and tried to fill the holes himself. The first time around was an utter failure. Then he hired Vlade to that funky 1 year contract. I envision Vlade having several man to man talks with Vivek and laying out what everyone's function should be. It seems like there is a chain of command unless my military background is over analyzing. That's good.
Now we move on to the team side. We have the staff but need some tweaking to be done on the court. I look forward to it .......... finally. I doubt if the rest of the league is noticing what is happening so it is up to the team to win. Only with wins can our lowly reputation begin to turn around.

It would not shock me if that was at Vlade's request. Don't know one way or the other. That way, no long term commitments so nothing to walk away from. Either it worked his way or it didn't. If so, it looking pretty good right now. I think I'm on the hook for another year of league pass.
