Jimmer

You are by far the greatest poster on this board. Very intelligent and unbiased, you just speak the truth. Wow.

Yeah, um...

What are you trying to do? Destroy bajaden in one fell swoop? Please stand up, hold your right hand in the air, hop on one foot and chant "No jinx" about a dozen times. We don't need anything happening to our bajaden just because you finally found what you think is a kindred spirit.

We have a number of quality posters around here. Picking the one who happens to be the most flattering about your favorite player and trying to elevate him to immediate emeritus status is just embarrassing - for you, not him.

No, I have no real explanation for that randomness either, and it could have cost us a game we simply needed to win. My best/only guess is that all the wild charges and shots from Brooks are actually the result of him breaking/not understanding/not running the offense. And because of that Thornton was being frozen out, and late in the game we wanted him to be featured not one of our chucking PGs. But when I call that a "guess" I actually mean something closer to possibly baseless speculation.

Could also be due to this mysterious "Defense contest" thingy that came up on the forum a couple of weeks ago. Did we ever get more info on that? Perhaps he didn't like what he was seeing from IT & Brooks, and benched them to send a message. While I seriously doubt he thought Jimmer would be an upgrade, maybe they weren't earning their time on the floor. May explain why IT was benched after he cam in at the 1 min mark and immediately left Knight open for a 3... This speculation is probably even more baseless than yours!

Well first, Jimmer was the only one that was actually trying to run the offense, and I guess Smart liked what he was doing. He was also being effective with his scoring ability. Secondly, Smart has a tendecy to ride a horse thats leading till it drops dead. Going back to last year, many times when he had a unit on the floor that was effective, he had a tendecy to forget about Cousins or JT etc. and ride that group way too long. He's already done it this year. I suspect thats what happened with Jimmer in the 4th quarter. Sort of a, if it ain't broke, don't fix it attitude.

As I said, its just one game, and for one game it worked. He got the win. I also suspect that the Kings, unlike some of the fans, haven't given up on Jimmer as a future PG for the team. So, he has to get experience where and when he can, and when he happens to play well, which he's done lately, they're likely to stick with him for longer periods of time. Look, I don't care if he plays 5 minutes or 20 minutes as long as it adds up to wins. And I don't care whose minutes he steals as long as he's effective.

In the end, its not up to us to decide how good he can be, or what his total potential is. Its up to him to make us believers.

Agree 100 %

I've been following his posts for a while and quite frankly, he's the best poster here, IMO. He's always spot on. He's very well adjusted and sticks to facts, no trolling or baiting. I really enjoy the guy and I think he'd be a great commentator or writer for the NBA. I, as well as many others, respect honesty more than anything else.

What was this? It doesn't sound familiar?

I'm going to take some time off to have my head deflated.. It could take some time! Seriously, I'd like to point out that Jimmer, who I like, is not my favorite player. I just try to be fair, as much as I can. I follow most of these guys from highschool on, and so I probably have a different opinion of their abilities than someone judging them on just their current performance.

In Jimmers case, all of his games were on the BYU channel, and I watched everyone of his games his junior and senior years. How much of what he brought to BYU that will translate to the NBA is still up for grabs. But he does have one exceptional skill that Tyreke wishes he had, and thats the ability to shoot the ball. And there's always a place in the NBA for a shooter.

I don't think Smart has a lot of choice in Fredette's case - he is a high draft choice and will continue to be in an extended rotation until he makes it or breaks it or is traded for a good value. So farhehas ha many chances to fail but he really hasn't yet. He has improved noticeably in areas he was pretty bad at last year. I have felt and said I don't think he has the foot speed/quickness/ agility on his feet to make the rotations in the NBA. He might prove me wrong yet.

Jimmer Fredette has received inconsistent playing time this season as the third point guard on the Sacramento Kings behind Isaiah Thomas and Aaron Brooks.

Fredette hasn't talked about pursuing a trade from the Kings with Geoff Petrie.

"No, definitely not," Fredette said with a laugh. "I haven't talked to Geoff about anything like that."

Fredette has been the subject of a #freejimmer campaign on Twitter.

"I can't control anything about that," Fredette said. "I'm here playing to the best of my ability and supporting my team, and other people can think whatever they want to think. That's not my job. My job is to be here, be supportive and play the best that I can."

Fredette remains in the Kings' plans, but the team has to figure out his role since he may be more of a combo guard.

"Everybody eventually gets their opportunity," Petrie said. "He's got a real good feel for the game, and he hasn't come close to shooting the ball to his potential. That's not a concern given the quality of his stroke and his history of making shots. It'll just require some patience and time."

Now, back to the topic at hand:

Although the game was a travesty, it's good to see Jimmer getting more confident out there. I'll take away that one small consolation prize out of tonight.

You're really overstating the defensive point.

Only kind of. Rewatch the 2nd quarter of this game. When the lakers went on their run it was largely due to jimmer not switching appropriately on d and it led to a lot of open baskets. The team does need to work a lot harder on d when jimmer is in and while his shooting is much improved this year it isn't near enough yet to warrant major minutes. More than brooks? Maybe

Jimmer is perfect off the bench... if the team can figure out how to effectively use players off the bench without destroying any kind of rythm the team may have... I am glad the coach played him enough tonight so he could score a lot but just not very happy with the other results that came of such great sub patterns

Didn't get to see the game, but was looking at the box score....looks very impressive for Jimmer with 18 points in 10 minutes...The article did however say that most of the points came in garbage time but still, he shot like 7-9 or something, 3-5 from deep...

its hard to overstate a guard's defensive weakness when steve blake consistently beats him off the dribble...

At that point however I was yelling more at Tyreke than Jimmer. Tyreke should have just stayed on Kobe. Let Blake beat us by scoring on Jimmer - the odds are lower than leaving Kobe open.

Nothing wrong with giving some praise to Jimmer on a very impressive offensive game last night.

Really good to see him confident with his dribble, knowing where he wants to go, no hesitation.

long ways to go but he's ironed out some of the really big problems he had last year.

Small sample size, but Jimmer is leading the entire NBA in PER. (Player efficiency rating) The next 4 on the list are Kobe, Melo, Bron and Harden.

Hmm...

After last night's game, it appeared that the Kings didn't really miss having Cousins and Robinson on the floor. Going forward, I believe this team should build around Jimmer Fredette and Travis Outlaw. If Jimmer doesn't want to stay in Sacramento long term, do you think that we'd be giving up too much if we traded him straight across for LeBron?

Yep. I clearly remember Tyreke doing this twice in a row and it lead to an easy Pau post move and a Kobe 3. On a team with Kobe, Pau, and Dwight, you let Steve Blake take as many shots as he wants

That doesn't work under the salary cap. We would have to send Jimmer, Salmons, and Garcia to bring LeBron back in a trade. Even if it were just Jimmer that would be a hard pill to swallow, but sending all three of those guys is just way too much. Obviously the Heat would jump at it but we're way too smart to trade away talent like that.

Easy solution - Keep Cousins and Robinson. Start Jimmer with Tyreke in the backcourt. Quite simple, actually.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...to-find-more-minutes-for-Jimmer-Fredette.html

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jimmer Fredette's NBA career has been a frustrating one for Cougar fans and undoubtedly for Jimmer himself so far. The former BYU great was relegated to scrub backup duty through most of last season and has scarcely left the bench through seven games this season, but his role may be increasing.

Fredette logged just 11 minutes in Sunday's 103-90 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, but provided 18 points on 7-9 shooting and 3-5 shooting from 3-point range. His performance warranted praise from his head coach Keith Smart.

“I have to make minutes for him on the floor right now,” Smart told the media following Sunday's loss. “He’s just too positive right now in what he’s doing. He’s kept a perfect attitude the whole time and I have to find ways to make sure he’s on the floor.”

Fredette has seen playing time in five of seven games and is averaging just 8.3 minutes. He's done the most with those minutes, however, and is averaging 9.3 points per game on .650 shooting from the field and .556 shooting from 3-point range.

“He’s not going into tight spots like he did last year,” said Smart before Sunday's game. “I just think he wasn’t aware of what to do in the NBA last year. Things went so fast last year from (preseason, which was) not even a week for the most part and then right into an NBA season — no training camp, no summer league.”

We'll be following Fredette's performance and provide weekly updates throughout the year.
