Jason Thompson in article from Draftexpress.

Nice article

It's good to hear what others think about our players, rather than always hearing from the local writers and fans.
Aparently we have a keeper.:D

Yeah, I thought that their criticism's were fairly accurate. I thought that their ceiling for him was conservative, but then, perhaps more objective than mine.

where do you see thompsons ceiling? what player is the closest comparison to your view of thompsons highest peak as a player?

High end? David West?

i could see that... very straight forward, very little flash... maybe a less versatile odom, too quick for most pf's and too big for a bigger sf or tweener sf/pf like rashard lewis or hedo. he doesnt have the athleticism to be a power dunker like amare or josh smith but he is more mobile than the traditional pf. if he can get into that al jefferson range of player we will be in good shape. the article was dead on about thompson, he needs a go to move. i think he should steal odoms go-go-gagget arm driving layup... he is long enough to pull it off. lol.... but he really needs a go to move, turn around jumpers dont count unless you are kg which he is not.

we cant go to the next level as a team until he or hawes finds their niche. martin found his now they need a go to move asap; thompson moreso than hawes. hawes can shoot so him being open is a go to move if we can get a player that demands a double-team.

I get where your coming from with the Thompson doesn't seem to be the big "dunker" type of player, but I'm not giving up hope that he can throw those monster dunks down once in a while. I saw him attempt a few last year that would have brought the house down. I don't think he landed one of them due it slamming off the rim and out or it being a foul... but he definitely has the potential to rip the rim off.

Of course exact comparisons are tough on the high end because there ae so few guys to choose from, but you would have to think West is better offensively, and almost surely always will be, while Thompson could be better at the rest of the game.

I'm still waiting to see Jason slow down and use his head before I will attempt projection myself. I am of two minds whether that's going to leave him very ordinary, or whether its going to let him make use of his skills rather than just bouncing around out there like its a mosh pit.

Agreed. I actually think he's a very tough player to compare to others as his skill set is so undeveloped right now but he's a little older so its not like he has the 3-4 extra years that other raw kids have. Good news is that he appears to have a good work ethic so he may be one of those guys that gets a little more out of his potential than expected.

Pretty fair and accurate analysis/scouting. Thompson does come up with a few highlight reel defensive plays, but generally his post defense is subpar - mainly because of the reason Givony listed.

I think he's got the physical tools to become a much better defender. He doesn't have the hops to be elite, but he's got the size, strength, motor and coordination to become a good defender. It's all about discipline and using his head at this point.

In terms of offense, I hate to read that his post game is not becoming more refined. Again, a guy with his attributes should have a go-to move. Hopefully Reef can work on this with him. I do think that Thompson has a lot of potential in his jumpshot, as well as his ability to defend the faster combo 3/4's (ala Orlando), and pass the ball better.

He's not going to be Chris Webber, and he might just take that "Channing Frye Freefall" and see his performance diminish every year. You just don't know. But I'm in the school of thought that Thompson, at worst, will be a solid rotation big, and at best, a 17/10 unselfish PF who is an average to above-average defender.

I sort of see his high end as a healthy Antonio McDyess. He could fool me and be better than that, but I would certainly settle for that. One thing that bothers me right now and its something that easily correctable, is that he doesn't play tall. On offense under the basket and also on defense, he bends too much at the waist and gives away his height advantage. Obviously his footwork needs a lot of work. I was happy to see him trying to use his left hand during summer league.

He has this terrible habit of always putting his hand on the other player while on the defensive end. Right now he's in that second year grey area. All things being equal, we should see a fair amount of improvement by the years end. I think his offense will come along fine. The thing he really needs to work on is his defensive footwork and defensive rebounding. If he can improve in both those areas it will be a big step for him and the team.

I think that JT looked a lot better on defense at the end of last season than he did at the beginning, but still needs some work. He needs to use his body more and his hands less IMO. Watching a lot of film of Karl Malone (during his prime) would do him a lot of good.

I think we need to wait until the season starts to really see where his game is offensively. I haven't watched all of the summer league games yet (have 4 of them on Tevo, and watched 1 and a half), but noticed that he seemed to be trying to use his left hand a lot. There were a few times I saw him use his left hand when his right might have been the better choice. It just made me wonder if he was trying to focus on his left hand in games that don't matter in the grand skeme of things.
