Jason Hart: New King

GREAT aquisition from teh Kings. And so cheap too! Like Bricklayer said,, he was pretty much for free and we still have trading pieces. He is also kinda tall for PG\ so we get size at the same time. Like it a lot! Petriw has done it again!

Definitely a slick move by Petrie. Shows he still has game left. I would, however, very much like to see House come back. He really proved himself; much more so than Cuttino. Eddie House learned to work within the system and showed great improvement. It would be a shame not to pick him up.

Great pickup by Petrie, this guy is tall and from all accounts a superior defender at his position. I did a double take when I saw his 5 assists a game in limited minutes. He is the perfect type of player to spell Bibby off the bench, he can even play D on some 2's if he really has too. Good move Geoff!

I agree with the majority of posters on this thread that picking up Hart was a solid move. I do think he could provide some quality minutes and play defence while Bibby rests.I do like GPs move here as it is low risk and actually somewhat redeems his offseason performance for me I hope to see moves that make greater impacts. However I think people are a little high on him also. While a good pick up considering his relatively cheap price tag ,i question his overall game and the effectiveness he will have on the court. hopefully with enough minutes by RA we will find out soon enough

I have to admit you may be right, I've never even seen him play. His numbers are impressive though (espec in 20 something minutes) and people are talking about his defense as if it's a given, guess we'll see.

I've seen him play with SA (he was there two years) and his defense is very good. Although this is not an earth-shattering move in the big picture, Hart is an absolute steal for a second-round pick. Petrie wasted no time shoring up our PG position after the Bobby trade. Hart's defense is better than Bobby's at this point, and he's a true point guard who doesn't turn the ball over much.

Just wait 'til he sees some court time, he'll be a fan favorite.

I especially like his #3 in the NBA assist to turnover ratio. Hard to say this was a bad move in any way... we got him for nothing, and filled a real need. I can't wait to se him play.

the "earth-shattering move" needn't be at the backup PG position anyway. we are in more desperate need of someone to start at the PF. bibby logs a lotta minutes, so all we needed was a capable backup for him. we got one, and i think he's more than capable. it sounds like he could fit in quite well in the kings system, and that pleases me. if he plays within himself, as he seems to do, then it should work out well for our second unit. i think house was also a capable backup for bibby, especially for his price, but i like the thought of a second unit that runs a proper offensive set, as well as a little defense. good move, geoff.

A very good move by Geoff. When Bibby sits to rest we'll be bringing in some real defense. And, with Bonzi's defense, the backcourt will be in okay shape. I definitely like this move.

Brad's not really like that though, he only shot them as a last option even on those. If he's open he's got serious range though... there isn't a better shooting center in the NBA. He needs to shoot more, not less.

if the kings are over the salary cap, how are the kings able to pick up Hart without having to match salary by trading one of our own players? is there something about his salary being low or is there something i am missing?

We can still stretch defenses because while neither Bonzi nor Hart are prolific 3pt shooters they are, by the numbers, capable, meaning that teams can't leave them wide open outside. And are we really going to give a guy a thumbs down because you don't like his long range shot enough? 10 pt/5assists in limited minutes isn't enough? Along with little turnovers? I get the feeling Hart/Bonzi/Garcia/Songaila/Miller would have no problem scoring. This team is loaded with scorers, and this provides a backup PG who can continue running the offense very efficiently. And, since he came for free, we can freely pursue Songaila and a good PF in a trade. After thinking about this for some time, this is an absolutely great move considering what we gave up and what we got. Certainly not THE move, as everyone has made clear, but it's the sum of all these little, seemingly insignificant moves that can make a good team great, give us those little boosts to get us closer to where we want to be.

some scoring in the post would be nice too, thats probably my major beef with having a bench full of mid range shooters.... thats what our bigs do, shoot mid range jumpers.... whos going to rebound? whos in position to rebound if everyone is setting up to shoot 15 footers....

We are SO fascinated with outside shooting here its almost a sickness. How many really noted three point bombers were there in the Finals this year? Detroit had exactly 1 guy (Chauncey), San Antonio maybe 2 or 3. Bibby and Peja ALONE give us more outside shooting than either of those teams. Let alone Cisco or the fact that all of our big men specialize in taking jumpers. You need people who do other things. Shooting is just one tool amongst many.

Besides the second round pick, I believe a Kings trade exemption was involved. (I also think Bricklayer posted this earlier?)

Yes, but unless you plan to redesign ALL of Kings offense, you need big men midrange jumper and as much outside shooting as you can get for our type of offense. Just remember how frustrating it was some time ago when Christie would hesitate with some of his jump shots - and he was still an OK shooter.
