It's tough to be a fan...

Okay. Thing is that any long term Kings fan has been through much MUCH worse than a piddly little one game suspension. We're in the playoffs for the 8th straight year. In our first 15? years we made it exactly twice. We were denied two titles by 1FT and 1knee. This...this is a blip in comparison. And all part of the Artest package unfortunately. If this was the Finals, maybe. But this?

This will pass. Its one game.

And here's the other thing -- its coming in a series that all pumped up homerism aside, we were VERY likely to lose anyway. Everyone is trying so hard to believe, and I think that leads to a sharper drop into disappointment heer. But basically NOBODY has ever done what we are trying to do in this series. Two #8s have beat #1s, but those #1s were nowhere near as good as the Spurs, never won titles before or after, and they were playing them in 5 game series, which werre notorious for making it easier to pull an upset. And so this sucks. But after you back away from it its more in the way of piling on the challenges than robbing us of destiny the way Webb's knee did in 2003.

You throw in the fact that Ron's mere presence on the team has seemed to mean as much if not more than his actual performance, the potential for a "win one for our leader" response, the fact we played them pretty tough even before Ron arrived etc., and you even have a little hope. Not that much less really than you would, or should, have had with Ron. Its a ****ty situation. But its one game where we were already the underdogs. Not the end of the world unless it causes Ron to start losing his head in some greater sense.

This will pass.

Being a fan this year sure has been tough..a lot of glaring weaknesses that you'd like to ignore but somehow present themselves in crucial games. Still doesn't change my love for the Kings as a whole though.

I'm still not gonna talk about it (the dissapointment). In my mind, the suspension is non-event compared to the embarrassment in Game 1. It just adds insult to the real injury. I don't even remember the foul on Manu as I was catatonic by that time.

I can barely bring myself to say it, but Game 1 made me feel like the whole second half of the season was "dead cat bounce". I better be wrong!

All I want is for the Kings to be competitive in this series win or lose. Just play hard.

Ron Artest got suspended for being... Well... Ron Artest... They should make a new foul. The Artest foul, in which guys with a bad reputation get suspended for anything...

Maybe the Kings could wear the old black jersies for inspiration like in one of those Mighty Duck movies and then put a whippin on the Spurs. I hope they make the Spurs feel at home---at the bottom of a shoe, which hopefully will be the Kings' shoes.

There is one, only no one knows its name it yet. Artestive defense could be a good name....

Right now, I'm with VF21. I don't even feel like watching tomorrow's game, or any other playoff games. I might feel different tomorrow but if the game were tonight at 6:30pm, I'd find something else to do during gametime.

I dont get ESPN at school... but i will watch the game for sure... we are kingsfans! during trials or joyous times! come on people! Kings4life! not here today gone tommorw!

Im boycotting the playoffs...I am a "score peeker" however. Im just looking forward to the summer. I feel for you though. Hang in there. Keep your mind entertained elsewhere and youll be ok :)

I am honestly numb.

I'm not angry. It wouldn't do any good.

I'm not sad. I think a part of me was already convinced something would happen to cancel out the "no turnip" karma.

I'm not anything. I'm just to the point where it dosn't matter any more.

I have been a fan of the NBA for over 40 years. I have loved the Sacramento Kings since they played their first game with my home town as part of their name. I have devoted more time and energy following this sport than most people who do it for a living.

Now, once again, just when I'm starting to feel a little optimistic about a decent showing in round 1 of the playoffs, despite game 1, something happens that knocks me down, rips my heart out, and then leaves it there on the ground to be devoured by jackals.

At what point does a devoted fan simply stop loving the game that's been a big part of her life for the majority of her life? It's not because I don't still love the game, because God knows I do. A well-executed pick and roll still gets my adrenalin pumping. A blocked shot or a steal can make me jump with joy. Watching the Kings pass the ball with perfection and get the open shot is poetry.

On the other hand there simply have been, I'm afraid, too many heartbreaks. The flagrant 2 decision issued by the NBA this morning may actually have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

There are certain rules in the NBA I think are over-reactionary when enforced on a "zero tolerance" basis. This is one of them. But I could be wrong. I just don't know any more and it's to the point where pretty much all the fight has gone out of me to even argue about it.

I love our Kings. I just honestly don't know if I even want to watch tomorrow.

Thank you, David Stern.
You can't actually be serious? I know the one horse town you live in doesn't have much to offer, but we're talking about a freakin' basketball game for crying out loud! The sun will still come up tomorrow. Please get some proffessional help, or call the suicide hotline if neccessary!:( :( :(

Apparently, this is a one horse's a$$ message board.

I'm not going to disagree with you on the likelihood of winning the series, but the league is arbitrarily and unnecessarily taking away the slim chance the Kings did have to win the series. If the Kings took Game 2, they had a chance. The likelihood they'll win Game 2 just took a big hit.

I'll be the first one up to call for punishing Artest when he really screws up, but this wasn't it. It was 20% Artest's forearm and 80% Ginobili's acting.

Want to place bets on how many times Kings players get popped in the face between now and the end of the series? I'd put my money on five. And there will be no punishment for the Spurs players.

Very good points. One has to keep in mind that SA beat the Kings by 34 points - even with Artest. Sure, the Kings may have been able to pull a game or two - but a series, forget it. One thing I hope people remember from this series was that it was extremly unlikely that it would have been decided by the suspension itself (as it might have been had it occurred during the conference finals of 2002).

No, Game 6...that was stealing a series, a TITLE we should have won. This...we were probably going to lose anyway. Its an injustice, but the consequences, what its taking away from us, are not really comparable.

And you never really know -- there is a variety of the mental scenario here that actually results in us putting up a good show, maybe even winning it. We get mad. They get overconfident. You never know.

I was refering to the syndrome of feelings and long-lasting psychological effects that basketball fans endure because of unfair and inconsistent NBA official actions, not the incident. Clearly, Game 6 was a far greater travesty, but the impact on Sacramento fans appears to be similar. Kings fans have been conditioned like Pavlov's dogs. It is the feeling that children get when they are cheated or abused for no good reason. It is the feeling adults feel when government agencies or courts make very wrong decisions.

I agree with your speculation as to potential positive effects on the Kings players. It is possible.

I think PGSS is real, and it is not good.

I took your advise and got some professional help. Thanks to rhuber for altering the image below to meet the circumstances:

Ron Artest is more than a good player. He has already inspired the team, especially the young guys. The beauty of this is that Ron can be effective without even being on the court. I hope it works that way. I suspect that we shall see some inspired play by some ordinary players tomorrow night. This has all the potential drama of one of those soapy sports movies. Rudy, Radar, etc.

VF21. You have to watch tomorrow's game. It may turn out to be a semenal game for the Kings and very satisfying also. Even if we lose another one, don't let "City Hall" bust the Kings' fan base up.

I have always had a problem with "authority".

This is basically Post Game-Six Syndrome (PGSS). There is no cure.
not the same analogy...this is just the 'NBARA'(NBA Ron Artest) Rules, which states that at any time, even if he's been a good samaritan and a model citizen in Sacramento, that we can get back at you for ANYTHING. This sucks I know, but I look at the big picture with this thing: Ron has turned a new page in his life, different situation...and next year we are going to be ALOT stronger as a team, and as time goes on, the league will get tired from poking at him/us just to get off. Rasheed went through it, Bonzi went through it, and another guy who also played here went through it as well(Mr. Webber). This is home...this is Ron's home, and the NBA will soon realize he is/wants to develop roots in this city. God, can anyone remember the 80's and Bill Cartwright's elbows in clearing out rebounds?? Just because Bill(and I always will like him, dont get me wrong), but just because it was Bill, it was okay to break people's cheekbones and noses in course of the game, and Bill DID get his share of retaliation, too...i.e.: against Bill Laimbeer(broke his face), Charles Oakley, Dennis Rodman...guess this is just the signs of the times, eh?

Right on, brother man.

Power to the people!!!

Okay HAHAHA some of the posts in here cracked me up.

I like Bricks way of thinking here, I can see how this just gets Brad and Bibby all pissed off and they take it to the floor. May not win but they will fight.

I like the thought of them having a chip on their shoulder rather then just being happy they made it. Spurs go DOWN in game 2 KINGS NATION will rise again.

I guess it wouldn't be the Kings playoffs without some sort of negative behind it. Seems like if isn't the League then it's within our own. It's tough but at least you're not living the glamour life of a Knick fan(I should know.....ask my twin brother!)

What happened to Ron is prime example of saying a spade's a spade even if it's the three......of clubs. Reputation's a b****.

I don't think you wouldn't watch tomorrow's game even if the minions took away your fuzzy slippers. The pbp you provide is too valuable to the rest of us not to.

Yea well its not too tough for me. I was never expecting the Kings to win against the defending champs anyways. We're still a soft team and not playoff material.

Thanks, Elise... I'll be here, fuzzy slippers AND a brand-new toilet paper roll holder voodoo doll of a certain San Antonio Spur. If I can, I'll get it picture of it before game time and post it in the PBP...

:)

It's like a boxer who slugs his way through the ranking to finally match up with Mohammed Ali, only to have his right arm cut off.

I love that analogy PP, but the Spurs are no Mohammed Ali. It's heartbreaking but to use the cliche, "it is what it is".

good thing is, is that we are ALL expecting a loss for this game.

and if they DO win.

Oh, how happy would us kings fans be.
