I know the terms were undisclosed, but I'd like to know if there were any contingencies for either a new arena or the team leaving town.

Another embarrassing decision by our ****ty owners.
Why? I mean, hey, I hate the Maloofs as much as the next guy around here, but what's so wrong with this? They're a local company, they have other major name sponsorships, indicating that they can actually PAY the bill (unlike the previous sponsor), they don't sell fake products (unlike the previous sponsor)...what's not to like?

I think you may not have a problem with this because our owners have lowered the bar so much. Yay, no fake product. Yay, someone will actually pay to sponsor a professional team.

Sleep train...that doesnt exactly reek of an exciting place to be.

Your way off base. While it's not a national brand like an airline or bank it's a solid company and it's local.

This actually seems like a sign they will be around a few more years. Sleep Train has a few concert arena's now. This seems to be a step that they will be trying to get more concerts at the Arena. Not the drop we have seen the past few years.

Oh and BTW. There was a post about the concourse being repainted black and white checkers they also painted the walls black. While some will say it's putting lips stick on a pig, it's more like going from a $5 crack ho to a trip to the bunny ranch.

I dont see how I am way off base, so I respectfully disagree. We have an arena named Sleep Train...SLEEP. Hard to argue with the lack of excitement in that name.

Nobody selects naming sponsors based on how exciting the name is. Naming sponsors are selected based on the amount of money they will pay, which is why you have incredibly boring names, like the ones that Section 101 pointed out. There aren't a lot of companies with bright, exciting names, and even fewer of them have the money to sponsor and arena.

That is interesting because earlier Sleep Train was supposedly one of the sponsors that pulled out... I guess to get naming rights.

On the negative side, this is kind of pathetic. In a league full of American Airlines Arenas and Comcast Centers and other multinational mega-billion $$ companies...the Kings hitch up with some little local mattress company.

On the positive side, as you march forward toward tryign to once again argue that Sacramento supports the Kings and local businesses with sponsor them, hard to top a local business ponying up for the naming rights to the arena.

Agreed. While it is a local company and obviously smaller than a lot of others, as long as it isn't called Cialis Center or the Viagra Dome, who cares? They are a reputable company with viable, while unexciting products. Honestly, I couldn't tell you the names of almost any arena in the NBA, for the sheer fact that I don't care and don't focus on it when watching an away Kings game. Who gives a flying rat's ***?

I prefer Extense Arena.

Not trying to defend the Maloofs here. But it is a major uphill battle to sign a new arena sponsor on a building that carried another name for about 25 years. Once it's ingrained for that long, it sticks forever no matter how much they try to change. Thus fewer name companies are interested in naming rights. They prefer to be involved in brand new facilities and sign long term deals. So call it ARCO and applaud Sleep Train for at least trying to get their name out there and at least erase the bad taste leftover from PBP.

What a pathetic joke the maloof's have become and they're making the Kings the laughingstock of the league.

At least it's not Bob's Window Washing Arena. That comes next year.
