It's Giants Season!!! (The Official SF Giants Thread)

I want to see Kevin Correia given a shot at closing for awhile...He definitly has the stuff, so why not give it a try...I hate to see someone with as good of stuff as he has wasted away in middle relief.

And keep Feliz benched...DFA him when Sweeney comes back...Even though thats really not going to happen...Because poor Lance Neikro is going to be a goner, which makes me sad.

I was really tired last night and right before Benitez came in, I said "screw it, I'll go to bed and see what happened in the morning." He almost blew it. lol

Other than that though, that was a fun game to watch last night.

We are on the road to 100 losses....... PEACHY!

Umm, not really. With our starting pitching we will win many games this season. The hitting will come around. It's starting already.

These guys started slow:

Vizquel - .189
Roberts - .242
Winn - .194
Feliz - .207
Klesko - .250

Most of those guys are professionals and will bounce back. And we need them to. Because it is turning out just like I predicted...smallball + Barry. And in order for smallball + Barry to work 3 of those 5 guys must turn it up. I have no doubt they will.

Our main concern should be the same as always...the bullpen. I'd sleep better at night if we traded for a real closer.

It sucks that right when we looked to start heating up a bit, (facing the Pirates on friday we hit very well) the weather stopped us. I still don't understand why saturday's game was scheduled for night. Why? Don't most teams go for day games on saturday? We could have played that day but the weather rolled in and stopped the rest of the series.

Zito pitched great, the bullpen pitched great, and we actually scored runs.

It is funny how none of you people post on this site after we destroy kids but when we lose you guys are the first to say the sky is falling.

Pathetic....

Anyway we are starting to click and I'm liking it. It is amazing what success we have when Aurilia bats third and when Roberts and Vizquel actually get on base. And you gotta love Durham 'making them pay'.

Pathetic....
I would have posted about Bonds two homer game and Giants victory but I feel like I'd be talking to myself in here. Then yesterday was a nice win but that school shooting took over the TV. I'm not 'pathetic'. I'm not a bandwagoner if that's what you were implying. However I still stick by my words that I will not watch very much later on if the Giants, are say, 15-35 to start the season.

4-7 record.. at least we are scoring some runs now. Maybe it did just take a little time to get the old vets warmed up.

Tonight's loss was tough. I can't help but feel bad for Cain. He goes out with the threat of a no-no every time and we can't even hold the win for him.

Yeah gotta feel for Cain. Last game it was our hitting that cost him and this time the relief. What did he allow.. 1 run over those two games?

Yeah. He's got a 1.8 ERA over his first 3 starts and has no wins. I just hope he doesn't lose consideration because the team can't score runs or close games.

Funny cuz that is exactly what we did tonight. Despite Taschner giving up a walk with bags loaded we still dug out the win. Benitez was absolutely electric. His split-finger was just crossing guys up. Then Sanchez comes in and pitches 3 innings of extra baseball for the eventual win. And you gotta tip your hat to Richie. I mean this guy BELONGS in front of Barry. It seemed like everything he hit was to a gap.

On a side note, Linden struck out 4 times. I'm not giving up on this kid but it is starting to look like the AAA stud is a Major League dud. Having him bat in the 2 hole was rediculous. Even Randy Winn belongs higher up in the lineup than Linden.

It then becomes completely apparant that we may need Richie at third and Klesko at first.

The Giants have now won 4 out of the last 5. Looks like Klesko and Aurillia had good days today from the box score. Lowry had good stats as well.

No sign of Feliz. heh. ;)

The more Feliz sits, the better...And hopefully he's playing himself straight for a DFA!!!

And...I still have hope for Linden...Give him constant playing time and I can guarantee he will produce better than Randy Winn.

For those of you guys that don't know yet.

Barry Lamar Bonds is 100% back!

Shock the world with another MVP!

And I want Lincecum in the rotation as soon as humanly possible...My ideal starting 5 would be.

1: Barry Zito
2: Matt Cain
3: Tim Lincecum
4: Russ Ortiz
5: Jonathan Sanchez

Trade Morris for pennies on the dollar, preferably for a reliever of sorts...Hopefully he keeps up the good pitching and we can sell high...Trade Lowry for some potential power at either 1B or 3B. Like to KC for Ryan Shealy.

I have no clue, and todays game just happens to be a thriller!

Thank you Giants TV scheduling gurus...

Giants starters now collectively have an ERA of 2.97. If the starters can keep their ERA < 3.50 for the season, which I think they are certainly capable of doing, and if Bonds can continue the way he has hit this season, this team will win a lot of games.

Oh, and Lincecum is unscored upon in 18 2/3 innings this season. Batters are having trouble just making contact with his 95-98 mph fastball and plus-plus curve. He's even using his slider and change now, so I hear? It's hard to keep him down any longer, but the Giants really don't want to hurt his development as a starter, as starters are SO much more valuable than relievers. But who would he replace? Every starter is pitching well.

And Adam Cowart is doing just as well this year as last year in single-A. His pro career ERA is around 1, despite throwing in the mid-80s, so I hear. Time for a promotion to double-A soon, I would think. He could develop into a decent submariner/right-hand specialist in relief. Potential to be Chad Bradford type. Not bad for a 35th rounder. He'll have to show that his funky delivery can overcome lack of velocity though in the higher levels in the minors first though.

I've been pretty big on Cowart since he blipped on my radar. The kid is proving his worth and I agree, he should prove himself in AA and AAA for an extended period before we bring him up. I really like your idea of using him as a reliever.

Little Giants: Class A Augusta pitcher Adam Cowart continues to make a case for moving up. Cowart tossed seven shutout innings in the GreenJackets' 9-0 victory Friday, improving to 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA. Cowart has allowed only 12 earned runs in the past 107 1/3 innings pitched, dating back to last season.

Lincecum on the other hand is ready to be brought up this season. I think the Giants' front office is stalling until they can piece together a trade because nobody has merited demotion. I'd like to see us trade Ortiz so we can get something for nothing, but that is probably unlikely. We will probably have to give up someone like Lowry.

Trade Lowry for a power-hitting infielder. Bring up Lincecum. Dominate.

I would certainly support trading one of our starters for a decent bat, and Lowry does have the most trade value outside of Cain (and Lincecum, of course!). Even if a starter gets injured, we still have the likes of Hennessey or Correia who are more than capable of making a decent spot start here and there. The Giants really could use a decent bat at any position outside of C and SS--we'll need a decent LF once Bonds retires anyways, unless Eddy Martinez-Esteve suddenly learns how to field the position. The Giants do have a lot of mediocre hitters (think Klesko, Aurilia, Vizquel...) and really are above average in the No.8 and possibly No. 7 slots in their lineup when we don't play Feliz. The problem is the lack of a power bat besides Bonds--the Giants probably have two of the worst No. 3 and No. 5 bats in the league. The problem is it will probably take more than Lowry to get a bat to fill the No. 3 or No. 5 hole.

Cain is a monster.

I cannot wait for Lincecum to pair with him at the top of the rotation.

Completely drool-worthy!

I'm just glad he finally got a win. And barely! The kid goes out with complete game no-no stuff all the time. He is going to need to collect wins if he is wants to be in the cy young discussion.

7 in a row! And a guaranteed series win over the Dodgers. Life is good.

Yeah baby!

What's even better is we are getting great relief pitching and closing despite yesterdays series of seeing-eye singles. Even Pedro Feliz and Randy Winn are contributing. Life is good.

Keep the good times a rollin'. BEAT LA!

Damn this team is on a roll! Been watching the games and I will admit that I'm surprised.

Hope they can keep it up. That Feliz homer........damn!!! that was nice!

So when are the senoir citizens going to break down? The pitching staff is doing a hell of a job but the rest of the team staying healthy will be a worry.

Something any Giants fan fan can agree on..... Bating L.A!!!!:D

Out pitching is amazing!

And Benitez is looking like a real closer!

And the bullpen has been strong!

WOOO!!!!
