Is Shareef Abdur-Rahim A Good Fit in Sacramento

Purple Reign

Starter
Abdur Rahim is a Free Agent next year.

From Hoops Hype.com
6-9, 240lbs
Plays both forward positions
Can score inside and out
Runs the floor very well
Accurate mid-range shot
Feels comfortable on the baseline
Not that comfortable on defense

Career 19.9 ppg, 8.2 rpg

I don't know alot about him. It seems like every time the Kings play Portland, he does not play. Played with Bibby for four years.

Any takers?

Abdur Rahim is PF,and on that position Kings have Songaila and Thomas.I am not sure about Thomas(will he stay or leave),but if Kings have plans for Songaila I don't think that Petrie will take Abdur Rahim.Everything is possibile...

I dunno about that, Rahim seems extremely cursed to me.
I agree, he's never won on any team he's been on. Granted, people used to say that about Webb, but still...

Abdur-Rahim may be a good fit for the Kings on first appearance, but that is not a good thing. He's not really athletic or a hard-nosed defender. And this offseason, those are the kinds of guys that GP will/should be looking for to build around Mike, Peja, and Brad.

And don't worry about Songaila and Thomas being here already. Sogaila may likely opt out, and I doubt that both he and Thomas will be back next fall.

if I had to choose any of the availible free agents (that could be had with the MLE), I'd take Shareef... I don't believe any of the "cursed" stuff because when you look at the teams he's been on, he's always gone to a bad team with a bad situation (POR, ATL, VAN). If he made it to Sac, I'm sure he'd fit in well

Wait, I remember reading something about Bibby and one of his teammates on the Grizzlies not getting along... was that Shareef? I think it was but I'm not sure.

the old vancouver grizzlies! hah
bibby dishes to abdur-rahim! score! hahah
hes a tweener, we already got a few of those on this team. williamson, kenny thomas do we really need another? we need a power player if theres one available. lets swap out half the squad for yao ming

i don't know a whole lot about him...he played for horrible teams in Van/ATL that I never watched...and since he's been in Portland I haven't seen a game where he's actually played in...(that'll change come Tuesday)...so I really know nothing about the guy...besides the fact that he's a PF and he has a lot of freckles :p

As far as Shareef goes, I don't really know if I would want him. It also depends on how much his next contract is. He is worth about 7-8 mil a year IMO. He is a little slow, somtimes shoots crappy looking jumpers, but does look nice weaving his way to the basket when he does it. Intriguing idea though.

Shareef is not a good fit with us. I assume that the idea is we'd sign Shareef for the MLE this summer. If we're going to use the MLE on a power forward, I'd rather have Donyell Marshall.

Nope... Kings need a shot blocking rebounder who can score inside but plays more of a role player spot complementing our Center who can shoot and pass... hmmm maybe we already have one (Skinner).

It was

Bibby and Shareef fought in Vancouver. Think there was even an accusation that one wouldn't pass to the other I seem to recall.

In any case though Shareef does have all around skills that could be useful in our system, but he reminds me of Juwann Howard -- empty overrated numbers, and soft as well. You can be a terrible team with Shareef. He's 19pts 8rebs of irrelevancy. Classic big numbers for a bad team guy, and you can see teams figuriing that out now. I'll pass. From a personal standpoint if we are going to keep the same soft core (Bibby/Peja/Miller) I think the last thing we would need is another soft type player. Would rather spend our money on one of the other more rugged young PFs out on the market.

P.S. One other note: we have just got to get past our all-non-shotblocking frontcourt. If we are going to keep Brad, we just have to find a way to pair him with a PF or even SF who can block shots and give us some interior defensive presense. Brad and Chris could provide us with no interior prsence defensively. Neither can Brad and Kenny Thomas. And neither could a Brad/Shareef pairing. We need SOMEBODY out there who can help clsoe down the middle or we'll never be able to play championship defense.

Im not sure that Brian Skinner is NOT the shotblocking PF you speak of.
