Is Boris Diaw an ideal fit?

you know, I have never liked Boris Diaw and all the ridiculous smallball "PF" stuff, but the short answer to your question is yes. Assuming you call him a SF most of the time he is exactly the sort of vetran glue guy this team needs. UNfortauntely for a long time now I've gotten the feeling he's overrated, and its not at all clear to me that he wouldn't come at a significant price. Course with Jordan running things there and them struggling with their own rebuild, maybe there's an opening.

I would say yes, but I'm not sure if he can play at SF. Saw him play for an half at the beginning of the season while I was waiting for a Kings game to begin and he played mostly as a big man, looking a little fat/slow too.

He started his career as a SG and has played basically every position at one time or another. But yes, I think he came into camp out of shape and that's why his numbers have been a little down. Didn't take care of himself during the lockout. Should be playing through it now though and you;d likely trade for him closer to normal fighting trim.
Also, if you had had the misfortune of seeing the guys we DO have trying to play SF, you wouldn't be worried about Diaw's abilities there.

I would be more than happy to have a trio composed by Diaw, Greene and Honeycutt at the 3 for the rest of the year, what I was trying to say is that I just don't see Diaw as an 'ideal fit'.

Yes, he came to camp horribly out of shape or he at least has gained a few noticeable pounds. If we were interested, I don't think it'd take that much to get him out of Charlotte with the emergence of B.J. Mullens. Diaw started the season as the Bobcats starting center, then moved to PF alongside Diop for a while and is now coming off the bench since Tyrus has returned (only played 11 minutes in today's game; 31 for DJ White).

I like Diaw, he chips in across the board (rebounds, steals, 3P's, blocks, assists) and seems to have a decent basketball IQ. His scoring is kind of erratic, one game he can dump 25+ and the next go for 4. Overall his production is down and inconsistent - one reason why, as SacKings7 just mentioned, Silas just moved him to the bench. Supposedly he is not a very passionate guy either.
The question is what do we have that Charlotte would want? Charlotte needs help at the C and PF and Cousins is off the table. I suppose we could offer JT or Hickson. Diaw makes $9 million this year, though. We could go after Diaw in free agency, his contract is up this year.

I dont see it. I dont see this team improving thanks to the presence of Boris Diaw. I dont think he brings anything this team needs that we couldnt find elsewhere in a superior player.
More importantly, If im trying to acquire a veteran player id be looking for a player whos some kind of a leader.

If we're tasked with embarking upon another rebuilding project, I'd say no - you want to surround your guys with quality veterans with good character and work ethic. The latter has been a problem with Diaw since he got his extension with the Suns. The last thing we'd need, especially considering our current culture of talented youngsters who don't have the work ethic to reach their potential, is a guy like Diaw to rub off on'em the wrong way.
However, if you're trying to build the bench of your playoff team, Diaw (in reasonable shape) would be a nice piece. I love his passing ability and unique skillset - and when he can't contribute because he either partied too hard the night before or did double duty at Five Guys, other playoff-caliber teammates can make up for his lack of production on such a given night. But with the Kings not looking to reach the playoffs anytime soon, and a lack of high-character, hard-working players (among other things) I don't think he'll make the kind of impact that fans want to see and thus won't contribute much. On to the next...

Unfortunately when you come down to it Hickson would probably be th guy. At which point there is a major chance Smart treats him as a PF. I am not interested in accelerating this franchise's rededication to the smallball spiral of doom so you have to try to figure something else out.
BTW, PG is actually their strongest position, or basically the only position on the team that they have multiple producers at. they ned anoterh quality 2/3 after giving away Wallace and Jackson last year, and are now runing on the just the mediocrity that is Henderson and Maggette, and Maggette has been out with injury. Unfortunately they of course can't have Thornton, and after Jordan got down dumping all those long term deals its hard to see him wanting to take on Salmons'. Ditto for Garcia. And frankly acquiring a guy like would be precisely to increase the number of guys with attitudes like Cisco and Donte. Trading one away for Diaw wouldn't advance us much. I suppose we could toss Jimmer's name out there, try to convince them he's a SG, or Kemba is, ro whatever that its accumulating rebuidling talent. Bbut as much as Jimmer has certainly not looked untouchable early, I don't think you trade your #10 overall pick for a 30 yr old roleplayer a month into his first season unless you're completely 100% convinced he's a flop.

He's a FA this summer, I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see Petrie go after him. However, his rebounding could be a contract year thing. He's more of a PF/C than a SF and he's succeeding because they're playing him there, just like the Suns did that year he broke out.

Actually, I think this guy would be perfect here- the drawbacks, of course, being his totally Jeckyll and Hyde nights, athleticism, and the price. Still, I think he could be had for young talent and someone to take Diop off their hands. My pick? A future first, Thompson, Salmons (for instant replacement) and Greene or Hickson for Diop and Diaw. If he can get his weight in check, and stay positive, he could be a big win for us. I'd also sign Aaron Brooks too, even though the forum may hate that idea.

diaw for salmons straight up. done deal. no need to give up a 1st for a player that is out of shape and needs to stay positive. they lost out on the wallace trade... heres the redemption trade they need.

Actually, that sounds like exactly what this team needs. That team has a major talent shortfall, this squad has 3-4 guys who will expect those shots. I would love to see Petrie go after him but I don't see it happening for some reason.
