iPod Decade Music Draft

My original idea was to have a separate draft for each decade, but I'm thinking that just might not happen because of time constraints. So, I'm going to post this poll to see which decade most people would prefer.

Once we've decided which decade to use, I'll start the signup thread.

I'd have trouble drafting more than 2-3 songs from this decade.

I'm abstaining since I don't think I will participate, but minus the 50s I'd have voted for the 80s just because it was such a ridiculously fun decade: new wave, new romantics, hair metal, deliciously bad arena rock.

Are you freakin kiddin me?! I'm the only vote for the 70's? That was an awesome time for music. Can't rant any more though, I would give away possible picks.

Don't feel too badly. It's my draft and the one decade I really DIDN'T want is the one it looks like I'll be stuck with...

I've noticed that in all of the music drafts, there seems to be a slant towards music of the 90's. Having been in high school and college in the 90's, I'm definitely part of that generation, but I voted for the 80's. I just think it would be far more fun and interesting.

You know, VF...you said it in your last post: "It's my draft..." It's nice of you to be democratic about it, but I'd suggest you choose...people will either play or they won't.

I thought of that but it smacks of "if you aren't going to play the way I want I'm going to take my ball and go home" so I'll stick with the majority rule. I might add in a twist, though, and allow for a couple of WILD CARD picks in the final couple of rounds.

It's gonna be almost impossible for me to come up with 20 songs from the 90s, though. Means I'll be spending a lot of time "watching" the Sirius channels on DishNet just to get some ideas.

Here's another idea that might please everyone. Since it's the Decade IPOD Draft, we could just make it the Decades IPOD Draft. 10 songs each from the 70s/80s/90s, that can be taken either in each set of rounds (70s rounds 1-10, 80s 11-20, 90s 21-30) or at any time. That way everyone wins and we get a wider range of music, and musical tastes .

If 30 rounds would take too long, then perhaps each round each person could make 2 picks together also, to expedite the draft...Thoughts?

Great idea! I am, therefore, closing the poll and will utilize the Decades concept. Having a requirement for 10 songs from each decade increases the strategic possibilities, too.

I don't think we'll have to worry about it taking too long, if last year's music drafts are any indication...

I'm going to work on the draft rules and signup this evening and hopefully have it up by tomorrow.
