Interesting free agents for the Kings

A few more days till we know what pick will drop to the Kings.
But other than this pick, we will surely see a few non superstar/non-all star free agents that will wear Kings uniform come November. So I'll start with a few here that I think the Kings should consider.

(Purely random)
1.) Aaron Affalo(G) - good showing in Denver
2.) Kwame Brown(C) - size and defense
3.) Steve Novak (SF) - good shooter from deep
4.) DJ Mbenga (C) - good size in the middle
5.) Steven Hunter(C) - can add some length in the middle
6.) Darko Milicic(C) - if he's not moving to EU, he'll add length in the middle
7.) Alando Tucker(SF/SG) - athletic wing
8.) Sean Williams (C/PF) - shot blocker
9.) Al Harrington (SF/PF) - if he comes cheap, he'll be nice addition
10.) Rodney Carney (SG) - athletic wing
11.) Mike Miller (SG/SF) - good shooter,
12.) Joe Alexander (SG/SF) - young, athletic wing

Hmmm... you know, the weird thing is, there is no way to predict who Geoff will pick up... some of these guys seem interesting, others seem like a terrible idea. Should be "interesting" as you said, to say the least.

As a Kings fan, I've started to realize that there are two basic types of FAs: those that we don't want, and those that don't want us.

I thought Tucker would have more success in the NBA. A camp invite would be nice, but if the Kings draft a guy like Evan Turner, than that's a tough roster to crack for Tucker.

1. Affalo: Maybe. I wouldn't mind him on the team..
2. Brown: NO!!!!
3. Novak: Good shooter, nothing else. I doubt it...
4. DJ Mbenga: Big body, but not particularly skilled. Maybe!
5. Hunter: Hasn't really recovered from his injuries. I doubt it.
6. Milicic: Absolute yes! Says he wants to play for Minny or go to europe.
7. Tucker: Worth a look.
8. Williams: NO!
9. Harrington: He won't come cheap, so I doubt it.
10. Carney: Worth a look.
11. Miller: I've always liked Miller, but would probably cost too much.
12. Alexander: Could still develop. Maybe a camp invite. But I doubt it.

I wanted the Kings to aquire Milicic before he was traded to Minny. I would love to have him, but I doubt he'd take a gamble on us. He already knows he'll get playing time in Minny and wants to stay there.

Yet somehow both types end up on a Kings roster. Go figure.

The only interesting thing about this list is the mere fact that the majority of these scrubs are still in the league at all.

Very true, he loved it in Sota, but if for whatever reason they dont sign him, and they might not considering the fact that they have a ton of draft picks this season... You have to believe the Kings would be on his short list of teams he wouldnt mind going to. We have a pretty good reputation when it comes to euro players.

IF Sota lets him walk, he'll probly head back home .. but I agree with yah, I like him a lot, hes still young and he's really really big. And he would know that with our big man situation he'd have an oppurtunity to win a spot.

Well as mentioned this is a list of non-superstar/non-all star players. Sort of how Denver landed Chris Andersen etc. These are supposed to be a list of players with MLE or below salary range that could possibly make an impact of be useful rotation players. ;)

Ithink our best case scenario is getting Tyson who I think is available this year, and for cheap. Drafting Cousins or Hassan and MAYBE signing another guard. I doubt we will even use half our capspace

I remember Darko showed signs of being an effective NBA center when he was given significant minutes by Orlando. I would absolutely take Darko.

I think we already have a project center. Really I have my doubts Spencer will ever come around, let alone Darko.

I used the dashes to try and line it all up.

Note: I have not seen him play, and I know stats are not everything but I think its safe to say he will never pan out by now. At least we still have some hope for Spencer.

agreed..pretty ****ty list...

either they don't address a need or are completely washed/injured/useless

Novak? really? have you watched him play?

Alando Tucker? hate to break it to you but Udoka is 3x the player Tucker is

I don't even wanna start with Steven Hunter, Kwame, and the rest of the "bigs"

If the team doesn't get in the top 2 and drafts a big, I really like JJ Reddick.
He's become a capable ballhandler for a 2-guard, and has worked himself into being a solid defender. He'd be the best shooter on the team, and is entering his prime.

Him, Beno, and Garcia could all mix and match to compliment Reke in different ways. Of course, it all depends on the price. I wouldn't break the bank for him, but a Salmons 2005 type deal would be fair.

I'd add Chris Hunter and Tolliver from Golden State to that list. Both D-League call-ups that had some success. Tolliver has range too, for a big.

Again, these are scrap pile type players that may turn into serviceable NBA players.

Kyrylo Fesenko ?
Pretty sure Fesenko is restricted, because I read Utah would probably try to match any offer. I like Fesenko, campaigned for going after him last year, but think it will be tougher to get him this year.

That list is crap, and combined with the new CBA in a year, I think it's doubtfull we go after any of those guys. The more I think about it, the more I would rather wait another year before spending any significant money on a FA. After the top 4 or 5 guys this year, there really isn't anyone worth offering a contract to, who will without a doubt help turn this team around, or we definatly wont' regret signing in a year. The 2011 FA class might not be as talented, although it will be close to this years, but it is deeper, has more bigs, and ultimately cheaper, given the new CBA.

This summer, I think it's the draft, and trades, is where we add players. Wait a year for the big time spending.

Afflafo and Harrington are the only guys I'd consider. I think Al could be a solid 6th man scoring punch for us, but it would come at the expense of Omri most likely, unless we played him at the 4 in a small-ball type 2nd unit. Afflalo could be a very nice bench player too, taking the place of Noc/Udoka, and being an upgrade from both of them. I think we do need to make 1 solid signing to help bolster our bench, as it is a crucial part of the team. I'd probably prefer Afflalo of anyone on that list when you consider price/product.

Sean Williams? Pretty sure he is ballin with in Puerto Rico for the Gaynabo mets, by way of China?
