I miss Artest

We basically threw away a top 30 talent, DPOY candidate, mentor for our young guys with a bunch of heart for a late first rounder and a 3 point chucker, very possible both of the ammount to nothing. Artest was atleast entertaining to watch. This team is putrid.

I don't want any of our young players taking lessons from him. Entertaining to watch? Sure, in the same sense that a trainwreck can be entertaining to watch. This team is putrid? Of course it is, that's part of the rebuilding process, sucking enough in order to get better talent in the draft. Whether it's franchise talent or not it's better to have it than not have it because 30+ win seasons with Artest are pointless and don't do the Kings any good.

I think we can all say that we miss Ron Ron a least a bit, and really our team is not complete without that leader guy who won't stand for a 16-61 record. I kno2w it's a rebuild and we dont need that type of player right now. But in the future I only see Spence becoming that player, and not half the leader Ron was either.

As for Donte you have to cut this guy some slack. It's his first season and you guys are calling him useless. He only gets garbagetime minutes most of the time, and I know thats no exuse to just chuck up threes, but if you watch him in the real minutes I see him vasly improving, but not always taking that three and looking for the pass. Sure he could gain some passing and driving skills Sure it would have been better for him to stay in school longer, but he can't now. Remember last year when you guys were all calling Spencer a bust, look how he panned out. If we were to have the right coaching staff and mentors Donte would be something special.

Mentor? Please explain what you want the young players to learn from Ron?

Defensive intensity is about the only thing I can think of.

Bunch of heart? Remember all of Ron's phantom out-of-nowhere injuries at the end of last year?

YES, I MISS ARTEST. I miss his heart and hustle, his swagger, his illogical confidence and optimism. Ron is the Man. And although there are members of the current squad that show passion from time to time, put all that passion together and you barely have what Ron has in his pinky finger. For better or worse. I am not saying I wish he was still here or arguing the trade. I understand the rebuild and the issues. None of that means that I do not dearly miss him and the energy that he brought to Sacramento.

I miss Artest + Bonzi + Adelman (with the caveat that I know full well that combination wasn't destined to be successful forever even if they had all stayed together), but Artest all on his own? Not so much.

Well yeah, I miss Adelman too. That combination was a winning combination. But then we lost Adelman, and then we lost Bonzi, and then we finally lost Ron, and now we're 16-61 and have Kobe saying our fans have all become laker fans, get blown out in our own building by the lakers, have them chanting MVP for kobe and luuuuuke for luke f. walton. Like PDX said, I miss WANTING to win.

No looking back at the moment. The past is the past and nothing could be changed. We should be looking forward to rebuilding and this off season will be the turning point of this franchise.

I don't think I've ever seen the word heart so loosely used before in my life. Seriously, 4 out of 5 of you guys used it. I fail to believe the team lacks heart, since I truly doubt anyone WANTS to lose on our team. I just think they really really suck. Not a lack of "heart", but a lack of talent.

Although some people seem to already be writing off Griffin and Rubio, I have hope that one of them will entirely change the dynamic of the team. They really are talented players in my opinion.

We also got Bobby for him! And I still have faith in Donte!
anyways it certainly wasn't the dumbest move Petrie and the Maloofs made these 5 years! Artest would have gone nowhere with us just like we would have gone nowhere with him.

Okay, now I'm getting scared. I think this is twice in less than a month that I've totally agreed with something you posted.

;)

I was always one of the few who had rons back here. Only until he made his comments about his free agent thing. That being said I would bring him back because this team lacks so much intensity.

Ron Artest is still bat poop nuts. His escapade the other night against the Lakers blew up in his and the Rockets' face as all he was able to do is show why Kobe Bryant is in the running for MVP and Artest, despite what he thinks in his own mind and hears the voices telling him, isn't...

As far as Donte Greene goes, I think he's about two bricks shy of a load as far as basketball IQ goes. It's not about patience or waiting to see him get more playing time. He commits a lot of bonehead mistakes ... and then makes them again.

Well at least its not three bricks short. Whew! I was worried there for a moment.:p

He's actually over the course of the year gotten enough minutes to show something by this point. He's played in 49 games, averaged 12.3 minutes a game in them. And averaged 3.8pts 1.5reb 0.5ast on 33.8% shooting, 27.9% from beyond the line.

You can't write a guy off entirely after year 1, but he hasn't been improving, which is a concern, seems rather dim out there, which is another, and really really needs to put in some major work this summer. Question is does he have the maturity and work ethic for that?

Not to hammer on Greene, who appears to have all the tools necessary to be a good player, but I also have concerns. I'm certainly not going to write him off based on one year, but, by his own addmission, he tends to lose focus at times. I believe it was coachie that said something along the lines of, you can become a good player if you get your head out of your a$$. The fact that Thompson and Hawes are gym rats and are constantly working on their game with coachie and the other assistant coaches is well documented. I've heard no such rumors about Greene.

As Ken Venturie once said. "The more I practice, the luckier I get". Lets hope that Greene grows up a little and dedicates himself to his profession.
