I know for most this is obvious, but Petrie made the right choice

How do you feel now about the #4 pick?

Um, dude? Check the top of the thread. I just added a poll that should answer your question.

:p

Jennings' game is suited for NBA ball regardless if he went overseas or not. Rubio has never put up solid numbers. I don't care how he is you should have at least a break out year of sorts. Tyreke is 20(barely) and is already averaging 20 in the NBA. Can't we just stop talking about rubio aka media hype?

Okay, so besides bajaden who seems to get everyone he wants to be drafted. Who here actually wanted. I repeat, wanted.... Evans to be drafted by Petrie with the 4th pick?
I didn't want anybody; I was convinced that this was the second coming of the '89 draft. I appear to have had that one wrong.

If I had to make a semi-educated guess to answer your question, I'd have to say "Sure. Right about the same time we can let go of the 2002 WCF."

;)

Oh and for the record I really didn't want anybody this draft. But when I started seeing the videos for the pre draft workouts the kings had for evans, he was the one I said I'd at least be comfortable with us drafting

I'm on my iPhone, I couldn't see the poll...

We all know who I wanted. He who shall remain nameless....

You know, I was more than a little angry when Reke was called over Rubio... but I am more than happy to admit now that I was 100 % wrong.

However, Reke/Rubio will forever be linked despite of what happens in either of their careers. So, keep beating that horse.

For the first time in four years, I was actually alright with this pick on draft day. Yes I really wanted Jennings so I wasn't thrilled, but I also really didn't want Rubio (or, for that matter, Blake Griffin) so Evans seemed like an acceptable compromise. He was my number 2 guy anyway, and looking back at it now -- even after the 55 point game, I think Evans was the smarter pick. Everyone knows you can't teach size after all. :)

My wants in the draft were:

1. Griffin (didn't think we would get him)
2. Evans (hoped he would fall to us)
3. Flynn (thought he would be a good solid PG)
4. Hardin (thought he would be a solid NBA player)

1. Rubio
2. Thabeet
3. Harden
4. Lawson

Obviously, Griffin was excluded. I didn't want Evans at all. But, crow is good.

This thread has the potential for Kingsland World War 3... A few of us have already had our timeouts because of where these discussions lead.. :D

My draft day board was:
1) Griffin
2) Rubio
3) Evans
4) Trade Pick

Griffin- Looked like the all-star type PF of the future. Would give us a great looking promising front line.

Rubio - because I wanted someone who could excite our fanbase again the way JWill did - and someone who looked to have the potential to lead us into the future as real deal prototypical PG. Had high BBIQ, Court vision, handles, speed, defense, creative passes that could break defenses down

Evans - he was a freak for the position he was playing and was forecasted to play in the nba (pg), I wanted to give the kid a chance at the PG and probably over defended his ability to play it even though he's playing in between where most of us thought he would (pg vs. sg). Trade pick - I thought we could pick up jennings/flynn/jrue later in the draft and we could have picked up some other assets

Trade - I thought we could grab a jennings/flynn/jrue/lawson later in the draft, but more importantly pick up assets for someone who WANTED someone at the pick we had (like harden, thabeet). I would have been happy to swap and get some assets in return.

I'm not sure the answer really matters anymore between Rubio vs. Evans. Evans is here, rubio isn't and probably won't be until T-Wolves start winning or they trade his rights to a team Rubio likes.

I'm happy with Evans, we now know exactly the type of player he is (ball dominante combo slashing guard that when/if he develops a dependible shot will be unguardable). We now know what needs to be matched with him for optimatal success (a high % shooting guard who can create his own shots and hopefully puts more effort in on the defensive side knowing he doesn't have to carry the load anymore).

I was at Arco on draft night and was one of the 100 people or so who actually cheered for the pick and was calling his name out before the pick happened. The main reason I wanted Evans was simply the fact he could be a defensive presence in the backcourt, something I thought the Kings needed desperately.

I also thought his ceiling was higher than any other player available at #4.

I just felt like throwing a wrench in this stupid poll lol.

And yet, without even looking at the names, I knew the one vote was yours. I'm thinking that means it's not a wrench in the poll at all...but a perfectly predictable response.

;)

I never saw enough of Rubio or Jennings to get passionate about either guy.

I wanted Flynn, but I was happy with Evans. I always liked how Evans attack the basket in college and I have always though you take best player available when it comes to the draft so the pick was alright by me. Evans is clearly a step above Flynn. Flynn is playing like I expected, while Evans is exceeding my expectations.

How is our friend Ricky doing these days. I was going to keep up with his game by game stats in my sig but, as it turns out they only play a game every 25 days or something. WOW imagine if Reke had 24 days rest between games. last I looked Ricky was averaging 5pts 6ast 1reb 4to. Damn how DID we pass that up.

Evans has been doing a LOT better than what I thought. I was thinking he would do about what he did in his first 5 or 6 games for most of the season. I wanted a pure PG, but we got a combo guard and I am living with it just fine. Actually contemplating wanting to move my favorite player so that should tell yall something.

Instead of remaining nameless it turns out he is remaining gameless. hahahaha lmao

lol haha.

uhm. I kill me.

Just looking at my last 2 post. I discovered something about myself. Yeah I wanted Tyreke from the start. I had heated arguments with Gary and others about Rubio vs. Tyreke.

Now I had nothing against RR and had it not been for 6 or 7 posters on this board he would have slipped into oblivion in my mind. Only now because of the constants nagging and putting Reke under the microscope. It has me hoping Ricky fails miserably. No so much that I can say haha I told you so. But just so they will see that we got the right guy.

Well, let me tell you a story Aries. When the Kings got the #4 pick in the draft, the day of, or the day after (way before the work-outs) I had a post in the Personnel section entitled: The Case for Picking Evans. I made my case. I got about five, maybe six people to respond, if memory serves half maybe for and half against. To put it mildly, I feel vindicated. Not that I knew he would be this good this soon. I just felt that the guy had the chance to be a superstar if he developed an outside shot. One of these days I'm going to be digging up that post for a mini-celebration on this board.:D

And one other thing. I stuck to my guns about Griffin not being the best player in this draft. People thought I was freaking crazy. Well, I guess I'm still crazy because I still think the same thing.

Not again….Here’s my question. If we drafted Rubio instead of Evans would we have more people in Arco?

My choice was Rubio because I felt that this team needed a PG that involved his teammates. But I like to support all our rookies and Tyreke is no different. But his play on the court makes me even more happy to have him here. Great call by our management.

I don't think Rubio will ever average double figures in scoring in the NBA, if he eventually comes over. He's playing against far lesser competition right now, and puts up 5 PPG on 36% shooting.

I don't think that's fair. If you watch him play (which I have in the past and a couple of times this season) you'd realize that they play very different in the Euroleague and ACB. The play is inside-out, a lot of ball movement, the courts are smaller than the NBA, and the defenses are much tougher to play against. Rubio would be allowed to play much more to his strengths if he were in the NBA. Plus, it's still very early in the season and he's on a new team. It's really not a good idea to judge a Euro player as an NBA prospect based on stats.

I had you pegged as a Slytherin all along. ;)

And scoring is not his strength. Neither is shooting the basketball.
