I never understood the Sacto fascination with the Giants over the A's. By most standards the A's have been the considerably more accomplished franchise, and even ahve thier minor league team in the area. Maybe its the Giants' Cubsesque lovable-loser-West thing that appeals to Sacto fans who miss the good ole Tizzy days of the Kings or something.
Sad, but very true - I accepted a long time ago that the A's are the Bay Area's red-headed stepchild, and regardless of their achievements will always live in the Giants' shadow. Somehow it makes what the A's have done that much more satisfying - they continue to succeed with a low payroll, an inadequate ballpark, and an apathetic fan base.

I think the Giants fans are reflective of the fact that San Francisco is the face of the bay area in general, no one thinks Oakland when they hear bay area. Plus, in my situation at least and with a lot of people I know, people have roots in the city, family that moved there or immigrated there from somewhere else, etc. and then people moved east to Sac or elsewhere.
