No. The Sacramento Kings have never played the Sonics in post-season.

I don't think so...wasn't it the Sonics who Richmond hurt his ankle against.

1996 - The Seattle Supersonics defeated the Sacramento Kings 3 games to 1 in the first round of the playoffs. It happened, I was there. Purple Reigns.

The Kings did play the Sonics in the first round many years ago. I recall Sacramento won a game in Seattle before eventually losing the series. Richmond did hurt his ankle in a game that the Kings were leading and eventually lost. I believe Seattle was the #1 seed coming off the year where they got beat by the Nuggets in the 1st round when Denver was the #8 seed and Seattle was the #1 seed.

ACK! Oh, yeah... forgot about that. He said a few years ago and I thought back as far as 98-99 and knew we hadn't faced them.

Getting old sucks.

This is a joke right? first off If JVG is one of the greatest coaches ever heading into the playoffs then why has he never won a title? and for the record, a heathly Sonics team beat the same Rockets team already. The only losses came when we were undermaned. Houston have a great two guard and a good center, the Sonics have a very good two guard and 4,5 very capable scorers + homecourt advantage.

Saying they have no chance as If you are some kind of NBA champion is very wrong.

Hey, JVG carried the 8th seed Knicks all the way to the Finals, lockout or no. Scoff at him at your peril...

Rage on... some of us remember your presason predictions and see them as blessings.

Well, I'll amend that. If Ray Allen gets injured, Kings take it. Injuries blow well-intentioned predictions into smithereens. C'mon, that's not a controversial prediction either. Sonics have been atop the division all season. They deserve benefit of the doubt by now.

The weakest division in the West most of the season. Denver wasn't doing anything until midway through (and may have won the division if not for the coaching debacle, i.e., firing Bezdelik and hiring Michael F. Cooper for no apparent reason, and then firing Coop for Karl), and the projected division champ - Minnesota - fell off unexpectedly. I'm not knocking Seattle as much as I'm saying that they got a few breaks.

The Suns deserve the benefit of the doubt for winning their division. The Sonics were never really that strong after the first month or so of the season. Just another division leader, really.

You only need to check the teams the Sonics have beaten this season and the record against 500 teams. It shows more than the division title to me. Although winning the division was very speical for obvious reasons

My point is that winning that division wasn't that big of a deal, at least not to me. Utah started out strong (8-5) and lost their best player in the 14th game for most of the season, Minnesota never got it going, Denver blossomed late, and Portland stunk.

Honestly, you may have lost the division title to Denver had they not started out so slow. They are 29-8 since February, and the Sonics are 22-15. You are only going to win the division by four games or so, and you had something like a 10 or 11 game lead two months ago.

Anyhowever, you did win the division, and in doing so, locked up the #3 seed. I just don't agree with giving the Sonics the benefit of the doubt simply because they won their division. They are going to be a tough team to beat in the playoffs for the Kings (since we can't stop anybody), but I'd rather face the Sonics than any of the other top 5 teams in the West, and I'd rather face the Sonics than Denver.

It's nice to see the Sonics getting their guys back, it'd be even better to see the same for the Kings. Obviously, the Sonics deserve to be favored, but I think the Kings can and will win this series. Experience matters, which is something the Sonics have very little of. It's a good thing that not that much is expected of the Kings, to roll in under the radar. I just hope the Peja's groin doesn't hamper him too much. If the Kings can get Peja type games out of Peja, I think Bibby's ability to hit clutch shots will be the deciding factor in several close games.

Kings in 6.

How's Peja's crotch doing? You wouldn't think a groin strain is anything to fret over, but Magic Johnson got one in 1988 on a simple layup attempt, actually looked much less innocuous than Peja's. Kept Magic out 10 games and should've been more, but they rushed him back. For years after that, he'd get recurrent tweaks and it would put a scare into everyone. Sensitive area, obviously. Hopefully, that's Peja's last bout with it, he's my favorite hairy-chested, looks-10-years-older-than-he-is Serb since Vlade.

They obviously have good chemistry to have been this successful with that squad. Chemistry bridges a lack of talent to a variable extent.

I'm very interested to see how Ray Allen is perceived by you guys after the series. Should be interesting. I'm happy with the playoff brackets this year. Don't have to see the same old predictable Mavs/Kings series. The Spurs didn't draw a patsy. Hous/Dall is a matchup of different styles. Suns get top seed.

The Sonics have played well this season, but I don't think too many teams are "afraid" of them. Respect, definitely. Fear? That's a horse of a different color.

Dallas/Houston will be nice to watch, as will San Antonio/Denver. Seattle/Sacramento will be entertaining, and Phoenix better not take Memphis lightly.
