Hurricane

Hey guys! We are all bracing for the hurricane down here. We would be grateful for all of your thoughts and prayers. I have made all the preparations I can make and am staying here in Baton Rouge. We are all hoping that it weakens before it hits land. It is just a waiting game now. The rain has started and we have some wind gusts, but it is still very tame. We have prepared for the worst and are hoping for the best through the next couple days.
Thanks is advance for your thoughts and prayers!

Stay safe, chelle! If you can, check in once in a while. I've been watching the news and it sure looks like they're taking Gustav seriously.

You're in my prayers.

:)

Thanks for checking in with us chelle. Yes, you, and everyone along the Gulf Coast, are in my prayers. If you need any assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. In the midwest, we sometimes can get 70-80 mph winds and that can be scarey enough. So I cant imagine 115 mph winds. Or 212 mph winds like in Cuba! Wow!

As I am watching CNN, it looks like a lot of power outage in Baton Rouge. They said the outer eye wall is right over Baton Rouge, but that is not as powerful as the inner eye wall that will hit Lafayette in awhile. Stay safe, chelle. Will continue to think of you and pray for you.

I still do not have power at my place. I am at a friends in another town doing laundry. My house only had minimal damage (couple of windows, small roof leak) but we lost many trees. They have only been able to clear one end of my street so we are at least able to leave the neighborhood. My area has been slated for another 14-21 days without power, but we are trying to be optmistic and are hoping for only another week. We also were without out gas and water for about 4 days. They were able to restore that a couple days ago.
It could have been much worse, so we are grateful. My neighbors and I pooled supplies and made it through the week. We take turns standing in line for gas and other neccessities. We are praying that Ike fizzles out.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I may not be able to check in for a while, but we are going to make it through just fine!! I'll try to post some pictures. Thanks again!!

Glad you were able to check in with us, chelle. I wondered if you were still without power since we had not heard from you. Hopefully, they will return power to you sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the pictures. Those of us who do not usually see (or live thru) hurricanes or tornados don't always realize what you endure. I come from tornado country, originally, and the pictures look like one just roared down the middle of the street.

So happy to hear that you are well and that you sustained minimal damage. I will change my prayers. Instead of prayers for your safety, I will offer up thanksgiving for prayers answered.

I should have power in about a week. I am staying with a friend tonight so I can get some sleep. The house cools down to about 80 at night, but with the humidity it is not very comfortable. Most of the city has power now, but our tree loss damaged more lines than in other areas, so it is taking a bit longer here.

In #2807, did the tree have too much to drink and decide to, uh, relieve itself?

I assume it is a broken water / irrigation pipe, but it still looks funny.... ;)
LOL! I had to go back and take another look.:D

Glad you are okay and just have a mess and minor damage, Chelle. Looks like maybe Ike will pass on Louisiana, at least a direct hit.
