Hughes to play second fiddle to the King (& Mobley Implications)

Looks like the Lakers would have the best shot, then. No? Butler would sure seem a more attractive trade dangle than Mobley. Better body, equally suspect on defense, but stronger to the hoop. And young.

Would seem, although the big thing the Wizards have been looking for is outside shooting, so Cat wins that one. Of course having just lost such an important piece in ighes, the Wiz might be just trying to get back the best player at this point.

Here is a little word from Marc Stien in a Summer League update....
The rough part, of course, was the free-agent defection of Larry Hughes. The Wiz, though, think they can parlay a Kwame Brown sign-and-trade into a decent Hughes replacement who won't be as expensive.

I was watching my local LA sports channel and they said Mobley's agent and the Clippers are "far along" in contract discussions and a deal could be made in the next couple of days. One of their reporters also talked to Mobley and he said he is expecting/planning on playing for the clippers.

Well looks like we lose him for SFA :(

Lovely.

I ahve a feeling one or the other of the kids might turn out to be a better fit for us, if less talented. But just having another talented piece walk out the door for nothing hurts.

Guess we can always hope to take advantage of Sterling's cheapness and maybe get something back in a sign and trade.

Ok, they just replayed the show i was watching and I caught the beginning of it that I missed. The reporter also said that the clippers are planning to pay Mobley around $5 million a year but he said they are also interested in trades and are shopping around Corey Maggette.

Chris Wilcox would be incredible, if incredibly unlikely.

I'll believe that Sterling will brush the cobwebs from his wallet when I see it. I can't see Mobley taking a deal significantly smaller than Bobby Simmons recent deal. Shorter maybe, but not much less year to year.

Yah Wilcox would be nice, I'll take Magette of em too :P

I am nto a gigantic Maggette fan, but they are of course free to swap us Maggette for Cat any time they want to. Of course that makes absolutely less than zero sense with Simmons having left, but this is the Clippers after all. When is the last time those bozos did something that made sense? League should really forcibly remove Sterling and give that franchise to a real owner....Like me! :D

Yes you go there and trade us Magette and Brand for Erik Daniels...

I thought Cat would get more than $5million which is essentialy MLE

It would be great if we could get something for Cat. Beats him walking out on us any day. Even if its someone like Wilcox or Kaman.

For some reason I just picture Cuttino as a Clipper. He can jack up as many shots as he wants because no Clipper "fans"(all 3 of them) are going to care and then he can take acting lessons on his off days down in LA.

Frankly, when he got hurt in the last game of the season I was actually happy to see him not come back because I wanted Mo in there instead.....

I mentioned it elsewhere but it may fit better here. Peja/Jacks for Wilcox/Maggette. We get a rebounder and a more physically "ready" 2 guard. Clips get a good mentor for their wunderchild point guard and their shooter.

Bibby
Maggette
KT
Miller
Wilcox

Whoa. Doesn't look like our Kings anymore though, does it?

Maggette could replace Peja's numbers, but Wilcox would have to be very ready in order for that to be a true upgrade. If you project his numbers out he's about a 15 and 9 guy in 38min, which would work, but that's always a bit shaky when you are talking about a guy who gets less than 20min a night putting up numbers against backups rather than against Duncan. And he would need to dramatically up his sad shotblocking (for a man of his physical skills) to help us shut things down.

Okay, maybe I panicked a little. It just seemed a more athletic look to attempting to play defense. Petrie says in the Bee today that he's got several deals in the works. Wow, that's hard to believe but I'll buy in.

He does covet Rahim, though.

that deal doesnt look horrible to me, even with bobby leaving ;)

all im saying is, it looks actually pretty good, altho it is true that wilcox would have to perform well...id rather get Chris Kaman, if that were possible...although he may not bring the deffense skills we need
