Vivek, read this first: Please don’t fire anyone. That out if the way, I can’t believe I am about to type this. Sticking by Vlade and sticking to the plan was a hell of a move. With patience and a little luck, we have our next Eddie D./Carmen Policy pairing.
I think Vivek said he had Vlade's back a few games ago, before all the good cheer and positive momentum, so we should be safe from any rash moves!

....

Good lord, I'm defending Vivek. Is that a sign of the apocalypse? Figures the world would end just when we're getting good again!

We saved our team against ALL odds. I think we get the tie-breaker on that alone. ;)
With such a long spell between playoff appearances still on going, if and when the KINGS make the postseason again -- those that believe they have a better, more enthusiastic and rabid fanbase will see what the best one actually looks like.

I always LMFAO when I hear Warriors fans lauded as the loudest and most passionate fans in the NBA. When a team is winning and winning consistently, most fanbases are good. But we KINGS fans know what Warrior fans were like beforehand. Not very plentiful and not very loyal. Oracle was once known as 'ARCO West' for good reason. They certainly got scoreboard now, but it wasn't that way for most the past 33 years.

IMO, the only home crowds I've seen the past 30+ years that can be mentioned in the same breath as KINGS fans are Portland (@ Memorial Coliseum), Chicago (@ Chicago Stadium) and Utah (Salt Palace/Delta Center).

I think we're just a really tough matchup. Too much speed and spacing. With WCS running hard to the front of the rim and Bjelica taking the big bodies away from the basket with his shooting the opposing defense ends up being over-extended and tired. It makes it even more difficult to deal with when you have a player like Fox that can exploit the extra space. Buddy is gun slinging and we're getting inspired play from Bagley and even the new guy Williams. It's a lot to deal with and fun for me to watch. Its as if other teams show up thinking they can finesse their way to a win and instead end up in a track meet with a team that is better than they thought.
Possibly the only take smarter than mine. Possibly.

Vivek changed man. He did. Two years ago, he really did fully give it up to Vlade. You gotta give that credit!

After all the negativity on the forum over the last few years, it’s good to see a lot of positivity on the forum (without posters being labeled as a rainbows and unicorns kind of guys and gals).

At the end of last season, despite all the turmoil on this board, I was optimistic for the coming season. I felt like the Kings had a plan and were sticking with it and we would see it begin to bear fruit in the 2018-19 season.

I believed that, despite all the calls for tanking, continuing to play hard and develop the players and maintaining a competitive fire was the farsighted thing to do and would pay off in the next season. I felt like the team would do ok in the draft but did not anticipate them leap-frogging to the 2nd pick.

I believed that Joerger’s slow paced offense (even though he gave the appearance of calling for a faster pace) was a teaching tool to develop fundamentals and discipline. I believed that in the coming season he would increase the pace and begin to play to the players skills (although I did not anticipate the feverish pace they have played at so far).

I believed that Fox and WCS would make leaps in their development and have breakout years and that Bogdanovic and Hield would make steady progress (they were both already pretty good). I hoped that Mason would begin to play more under control and start to play to his strengths. I hoped that Vlade would make some beneficial free agent signings that would add value but did not anticipate the impact that Bjelica would have. Yogi and Shumpert are good signings that have also added value.

I believed that the team would struggle early in the season and we would not see results measured in wins but would see progress in player development and improvement. I believed that as the season progressed, the players would start to gel as a team and the wins would start to come, especially in the second half of the season (apparently, I was wrong about the lack of early season wins). I really believed that they would improve by around 10 wins, a huge jump, (37 wins) and would have the potential to “sniff” the playoffs, although I did not see 37 wins being enough to actually make the playoffs in the competitive west.

However, sad to say, during the off-season, after listening to the “talking heads”, reading all the negativity on this site (and others), and even after getting the 2nd overall draft pick, my optimism began to fade some.

When the Official Kings WIN total Prediction thread 2018-19 was posted, I really wanted to maintain my optimism and predict 37 wins, but I faltered and predicted 34 and even had reservations about that many. Now, I am wishing I had stuck to my original prediction. I think 37 wins is achievable. I think this team has already won 4 more games (without Bogdanovic even suiting up) than the pre-season prognosticators calculations would have predicted.

I am prepared for some bumps in the road, this team is young and probably playing over their head a little bit right now. Teams around the league are going to start taking the Kings seriously in their scouting and start to make adjustments to counter the Kings frenetic pace. Also, I wonder if there will be times when the pace will catch up to the team and they will go through spells of “tired legs” and not being able to maintain the pace for a stretch of games leading to less than stellar play. If they do have some streaks like that, then this “bi-polar” forum will explode with the negativity again. I guess that is life on the Internet. But I want to see the team continue to be farsighted and stick with the plan and not attempt any shortcuts that are only beneficial for short term gain (despite the expected calls for a “win now” trade or signing).

Joerger has figured out that the best way to take advantage of youth is to play fast.
He uses plenty of guys and goes hard. Fortunately for us, this has carried over to the defense end where players are moving their feet, moving their hands and running the floor. Fast breaking becomes a habit. You do not think about it but just react. The Kings are the track team of the NBA.

They have the horses to race up and down. They are going to make some mistakes, but now they get more chances. The 3 pt shooting especially by Buddy and Bjelica has opened up the middle. The Kings proved last night they can run even after playing the night before.

When teams learn to play defense, rebound and run the floor they can always stay in games.

Carmichael Dave doesn't think it is really happening. He still has a prediction of 25 wins for the Kings.:D

It's like hitting the lottery, but still going out and buying the beater pickup that you had planned to buy. If you buy the beater, then maybe the lottery thing is really true and you're pleasantly "surprised." If you go out and get the 100K 4X4 then you're doomed - it's all been a big mistake. :D

What makes this better is that we’re not extremely reliant on one player like Malone got us twinning before boogie went down. I don’t think we’ll have a total meltdown if one or our best players go down (fox,Buddy, or wcs)

I have been a Kings fan since 1988 when we moved back to Sac. But I lucked into Warriors season tickets in 2000-2002. I watched their fans support Arenas, Dunleavy, Jamison, Murphy, etc... They are good fans - but now they are spoiled and annoying. Just like Red Sox fans now. Hopefully, we Kings fans can become spoiled and annoying soon, too.

I see improvements already from the first few games as the defense has slowed down the opponents getting all those dunks and getting pressure on the opponents players more often.

When we get bogi back next week our spacing will be greatly improved along with our ball movement.

I also expect after he returns who ever rotates in for our second unit we may have a pretty darned good 9 or 10 man rotation that will give teams fits.

I figure the next step is that teams will start preparing for us. What do the basketball strategy experts on this site (and I'm not one of them) think they might try to do, and how can we counter it?

They might try full court press on Bjelica and Fox, but I have no idea what they can do if/when we Bogdan comes back and regains last season level.

They've started to here and there. Miami started to take away the middle paint from the Kings and from the 2nd quarter on the Kings took what was given. The answer is to let Buddy and Bjelica bomb it on them and use Fox on short kick outs. Because both Buddy and Bjelica can play in the triple threat it's going to make it hard for teams to sag off on pick and roll and try to crowd the paint. Then there is post play with Bagley, Bjelica, and even Willie here and there. The Kings haven't been a team that's forced a defense to change for some time, they've always changed to the defense but I think they have the tools now to play tug of war with teams on a gameplan basis.

More than likely full court pressure/trapping. Trying to take away lanes. I can tell you this. It is going to be very difficult and require a lot of effort to do.

I would imagine some sort of wing traps will be the go to. But as long as we can keep swinging the ball that kind of crap will be broken down for easy buckets. The Kings are playing REALLY well right now. So good that even off shooting nights they still have a chance. It's fun to watch.

In my opinion they will start to just show press and just float in front of our guys, just to control the tempo... pack their defense, try to make us made more passes, which can lead to late shot clock shots and can result also in bad shots.

Tbh I don't even think those teams believe they are ready to play that fast of a pace full 48 minutes, even tho I don't know if we can run like that all 82 games and have energy for it.

When we are on defense, the opposite team obviously will try to control the tempo and slow the game down.

Yeah, that's the area where the Kings have struggled although that might be because teams always have issues breaking the press when they are really just attempting to wind down the clock at the end of the game. The Kings get a little loose with the passing as well which doesn't help. Teams will also start playing the passing lanes and that's why when someone like Fox, Mason, Buddy, Bagley, Shump, or Bjelica are able to pull up into a jumper like they have been it gives teams very few options there. Bogdans pull up is deadly so he should be extra dangerous with these guys. Bjelica in particular has one of the most efficient two hand passes out of a jump shot stance I've seen. Those back door passes from the 3 point line are directly coming from his jump shot form. His jumper turns into a pass halfway up. Kevin Love does the same thing. Very efficient and cagey which is another weapon against teams loading up in the middle.

That's funny, because 2000-2002 is right in the prime of the era when KINGS fans were taking over The Arena in Oakland (whatever they called it then). We'd bus down and make more noise than their fans. I don't recall Warriors fans being overly interested until the 'We Believe' team with Baron Davis several year later. But if you say so, I suppose I can believe it since you had season tix.

you guys are all getting carried away in the moment. this team isn't good enough to compete.
I'm assuming you are suggesting they are not good enough to compete long term because they are certainly competing (and winning) now.

Just looking back at last year there were 3 teams (Orlando, LA, and Memphis) who started off strong and ultimately faltered (for various reasons). It's reasonable to have a wait and see attitude about how well this team will do long term, but I think it is an arrogant statement to suggest that the team is not good enough to compete, when all current evidence suggests that they are good enough to compete.
