How do we feel about Troy "cheeseburger" Murphy as our 4th big?

Last year was a train wreck for Murphy. He was injured. He got fat and ended up playing on a $200,000 minimum salary contract for the Boston Celtics. As a result he will be forced to accept a low salary contract and reduced role. I think that given the circumstances he would be content with that. His strengths are rebounding (multiple 10+RPG seasons) and the three point shot (0.389 career 3pt%) In two of the last three seasons he was a 14 and 10 big.

I imagine that he could play spot minutes at PF next to Jason Thompson (all of Darnell Jackson's old minutes), would spread the floor for Tyreke and would more or less be our Brian Cardinal/Brian Scalabrine. Let's face it. That's his fate.

Rotation I envision would look like this:

Dalembert / ........................... / Hassan
............../ Jason Thompson
Cousins..../ .................. / Murphy

He'll probably just sign with a contender tho.

Normally, I support my peeps, but I have ill-will harbored towards him based on a bookstore basketball game my senior year.

Edit: That, and I don't know what he has left in the tank.

Pat his prime, jump shooting, lockerroom cancer. No thanks. There's a reason Avery Johnson told him to stay away from the team the first 5 months of the season.

I'm not sure how Murphy would fit into this current team (he seems like he doesn't have much left). I saw this particular suggestion on another site, what do you guys think of "Chuck Hayes" as a 4th big man option? I'm still hoping we get a good big man this summer (like Dally, Gasol, Nene, Jordan, Chandler, and etc.), but I was thinking maybe Hayes could take Darnell Jackson's spot. I'm not sure how possible this could be though considering how much ($) it would take to get him here.

I like Chuck Hayes. He's a shrimp but wide and a good post defender.

Look, I think Hayes is a great example of a player making the absolute most out of his talent. But can we shoot a little higher here. Are you guys telling me that we have close to 30 million in capspace to spend, and were thinking about Chuck Hayes, or Troy Murphy as difference makers?

Absolutely right on, baja. If you fill your jar with sand, there won't be any room left for the big rocks. We're (as fans, but hopefully not the FO) looking at this all wrong. We need someone whose signing will push JT down to the 4th big. Then we're in business. I still think that the first person on the list needs to be Dalembert, despite the crack that the Maloofs are currently smoking.

The poster asked about Chuck as a 4th big, not a starter. Obviously that big starter role has to be filled first with Dalembert or someone on that level. Hayes is a fill in as the 4th guy, but IMO he would be a great one in that role if the price was right.

We may have two holes to fill up front. If somebody will just offer to mow Daly's lawn, then its only 1, and 1 that a Chuck Hayes could fill decently. The 4th/5th big competing with Whiteside. But with Daly the #1/#2/#3 spots are adequately filled. In fact down the stretch of the season they were looking a lot more than adequately filled. With a little Cousins seasoning I would go so far as to say Daly/Cousins/Thompson could be one of the top frontcourt rotations in the league. And somewhat affordable for years too. Now if Daly goes elsewhere, that's when the problems begin anew for us, and a midget like Chuck Hayes isn't going to help anything.
