House Party on Comcast

I love the fact that we have a pre-game show, but the set looks like Romper Room from the 80's, there are people milling in front of the camera's eating pizza and wings and Elvis Impersonators are not exactly basketball-related.

Koz must be embarrased to be on there with the current set and content. If things stay the same on there they might as well hire that tool Mark S. Allen from Channel 31 to host it.

Or better yet, bring the House Idiot Jerry Reynolds into the mix on the pre-game and let Koz and Grant do the games. Could you imagine how good a Kings broadcast would be with Nappy on play by play and Koz doing color commentary. It would be outstanding.

The Maloof's need to make a few changes here.

Jerry Reynolds is not an idiot. The main has been with the Kings since the beginning. I'd like to see him get a little more respect.

The Elivs impersonators were from Memphis, because that's where Elvis lived - Do the names Graceland or Elvis Presley Blvd. mean anything to you?

Now, onto the things we can agree about. The set stinks, big time.

I watch it every game, but I don't know why.

Its painful.

Especially when they're on the set, as opposed to at Arco. If they want to have a loose, free form show (I think it fails miserably, and is just cheesy, but that's beside the point), they should at least shoot in such a way that the cue card people aren't constantly in the way.

I was just going to point out that Kara sucks. I've always liked Koz but he is horrible on this show as well. He asks a question then looks down at his notes while someone else is talking about what he said then he looks up and smiles.

Jerry's grammar is worse than most 3rd graders whose 5th language is English. He deserves no respect because the only reason he is kept around is because he is a value to the organization at the salary he commands and they don't want to pay a top-notch analyst. They could solve their problems by promoting Koz and rescuing him from that crap they call House Party. That show just might ruin his career! Jerry Reynolds has no career to ruin.


Elvis impersonators suck regardless of who they are playing. This is 2004....get something original. 20 years in Sac and you would think it was still 1985....unreal that they can't think more outside the box than that..absolute garbage!

This show has such low production values, it's beyond embarrassing. You can see the hands of camera-men on screen, but only when they're not totally in the scene, which just breaks every rule in television production. Holding interviews through the big-screen TV is fine, but it's really only effective when there aren't 5 people in front of the TV!! Why isn't the director telling these morons to get out of way? The way this program is run is atrocious. It's obvious that they spent more money on the Xbox that they've got the little kids playing than on the rest of the show.

The solution? Bring your ideas back down to earth. They're trying to do too much with too little money, and it's painful to watch. Make it simple and clean. Give us a set with a big desk that allows for cross-chatter between the hosts. And for goodness sake, hire someone with more personality than Kara Lawson!! A rock, Wilson the volleyball, anything. I appreciate her knowledge of the game and she has potential, but the purple walls on the set have more energy and enthusiasm than she does. The best example of what I want to see is over at TNT. In my opinion that is one of the most entertaining sports shows there is, simply off the personality of the The Jet and Barkley alone. The set is rather bright but low-key but there's also an elegance to it. Barkley is really just there to be the laughing-stock and generate ratings, but I love Kenny's intellgence and wit. The whole thing just goes to show that you can be entertained and educated all at the same time. SIMPLE AND CLEAN, MALOOFS.

I love the Kings but refuse to be a Kings apologist like you. Are you as a fan satisfied with bad basketball? Did you like the Kings better when they sucked? Was it less stressful without expectations?

I refuse to not watch something because it sucks. That is the oldest response in the book. Make the darn thing better. It isn't that hard....make it better.

BTW--The G-man is the best in the biz. But, even the G-man couldn't save House Party. I just keep expceting to see Kid N' Play or Kris Kross jump out and start breakdancing. It's just that bad!

i really don't care one way or the other about the show...i watch cuz its on and thats it...

but like 99% of the time i can't concentrate on anything but how bad and unflattering the clothes Kara wears looks on her...i mean if she's gonna insist on wearing her hair up in a ponytail all the time for the love of god put on some earrings!!!! Last night her outfit was horrible...and yes this is the kind of materialistic things i often find myself focusing on...call me what you want...but i do believe in the power of fashion

as for the set...there is only one word that describes that set....HORRIBLE....i mean they are better off sitting in front of a black screen/curtain with a sign that says House Party Live...or whatever on it...ugh!

Since Directv started carrying Comcast from Sacramento recently, House Party Live is still amusing to us. Fortunately, or not, the novelty of the "cheese" factor hasn't worn off yet.

Give it another week, and I'll be back in here griping along with the rest of you.

Oh, and the Romper Room set wasn't nearly as bad as this is!

I am not being a Kings apologist...I'm just stating that if you dislike it that much then don't watch it and there's a reason why that might be the oldest excuse around...it's a valid one. And yes, I liked the Kings just as much when they sucked and I got stressed out just as much when they lost 10 in a row as I do now. Just ask my wife's college roommate whose chair I kicked a hole in when the Kings lost a game to the Clips in the '96-'97 season.

I have decided that it is not worth pissing and moaning about any longer. After a few cocktails anything can seem amusing and watching tonight's post-game show had me hysterical. I just keep thinking I'm watching Sacramento Community Television.

I particularly enjoyed the shots of the camera dude right up in Tank Thompson's grill, Koz looking at his notes every few seconds, the couple on the couch (where was Chuck Wollery?) and the best part of all was all of the set smaller furnishings and accessories stacked up on the sofas.

Bottom Line...House Party is in better shape than the Hornets...Nice Job 2night Kings...way to go!!

I'm not a House party fan, but it's fun to make FUN OF with friends before you watch the game. I agree with 2muchgame, make the thing better, it definitely needs help. I will still watch it (live) when I can, but it's still super low budget.

we all have our different tastes. I like Kara alot and some Dont. Nothing wrong with that. I like Kara cause she is plain jane. She gives me facts and doesnt dress up everything or even try to be funny like chucky(Barkley) cheesy himself. Barkley would rather bash a playermake fun of them then give thwem any credit. Like his opinions on Eurpean players for example. As Joe Friday said, "Just the facts ma'am!" .... Hmm now thinking about it... Maybe that why I cant stand the ESPN dopes so much

Personally, I cant see why anybody can't like "The Other Hick from French Lick". Believe it or not Jerry Reynolds is actually a pretty smart guy. He still butchrs some names but otherwise the guy is lovable.

I don't dislike Jerry, but as a broadcaster you can't have grammar as bad as he does. About 10 years ago when the Kings were atrocious, his "we couldn't beat the little sisters of the poor" line was one of the greatest ever. Nonetheless, you can't get by on wits alone, unless of course you are Jerry Reynolds. He may be intelligent, but clearly they don't teach grammar the way they should in French Lick (Larry Bird must have been bused to another district or he had went to private school

Jerry Reynolds like anyone else is very personable on camera, but no one really knows what he is like off camera. He is hokey....perfect for House Party where he could lead the brigade of Cheese. Jerry and Kara.........

SAVE KOZ..............it's my new campaign and I'm going to the airwaves of KHTK with it!!!!

I think because this whole deal was thrown together so quickly, that maybe there was no money to put together a high quality product. I do like the show much better from Arco. I guarantee you that next year you will see major improvements.

It isn't about grammar. It's about knowledge of the game and the team, both of which he has in abundance.

The Maloofs and their Sports Entertainment group are good at a lot of things. Unfortunately, after the Rupe the Hoop debacle last year and the "Oh my God, can it be that bad?" fiasco brewing in the House Party this year, it's apparent they aren't infallible.

Bueller...Bueller...Bueller....You should offer your services to the man himself, he probably would accept. As for myself, I had went to a bad public school and my teacher was Pedja. Besides I never did good in Grammar class, I just like covering my own insecurities by ripping those much more educated and knowledgeable.

I like Kara Lawson - a lot. Her takes are interesting because she knows the game from the inside out. And she knows the members of the Kings almost as well as she knows her fellow Monarchs.

The only thing I wish they would change are the super close-ups of her talking where she just stares into the camera without blinking. That's un-nerving. It's better when she glances at Koz occasionally but it's something she'll learn in time.
