Thats true. If we also plan on trading Rudy for Cam Payne or another young player we'd lose a lot of productivity whether it is rebounding or scoring. However cashing in on them before they walk could be the right thing to do as their value is not going to get higher.
The problem is I do think we are trying to make the playoffs so the productivity has to come back in some way. A guy that we could target is Enes Kanter. His value isnt too high but he provides scoring and rebounding and would then fulfil a need. At realgm I suggested:
Sac out: Rudy Gay, Darren Collison, Kosta Koufos
Sac in: Cam Payne, Enes Kanter, KJ McDaniels, 2nd from Portland
OKC out*: Cam Payne, Enes Kanter
OKC in: Rudy Gay, Darren Collison, Nene
Rockets out: KJ McDaniels, Nene, 2nd from Portland
Rockets in: Kosta Koufos

Why for Sac? They cash in on Gay to finally get Cam Payne who they liked since he came out of college. They cash in on Koufos for McDaniels and a 2nd rounder. Finally they replace Gays scoring and Koufos rebounding with Kanter.
Why for OKC:
They adress their biggest needs: Wing scoring with Gay and backup PG play with Collison. They also get the bird rights of these players what makes keeping them easier. They also get out of Kanters contract and replace his production with Nene and Collison
Why for Rockets:
They add a solid big that can start or come of the bench when Capela returns, without giving up much as they keep Harrel over Nene.
*OKC has to clear an additional roster spot before this could happen
Now, is that fair value? I don't know. But it could make some sense.
Id do that in a second
