Let's be honest. Marc Stein doesn't really say enough to make this a valid rumor. He says Houston needs a center (well, duh) and he's heard they might be looking at Koufos (well, duh again)...

I'm thinking boogies numbers are down be cause his missed shots at the rim are down. He used to get 3-4 extra rebounds a game volleying the ball back and forth at the rim missing tip in. Thinking about it I haven't seen that much this year

That and he's out beyond the 3 pt line a lot more. How may times a game do the Kings run that screen and pop where DeMarcus backs up beyond the 3 pt line and Collison or Lawson kick it out to him? It's pretty hard to rebound from out there. Also, the player he is often defending is out there quite a bit too.

I read in an ESPN article that Koufos could have a fairly heavy asking price; that he was just out of place in our system. I hope so. The Rockets are looking for depth at center, really at defense because they can put up points. They have two guards in Eric Gordon and Harden already.
Would they give up Patrick Beverly? Still young, a top on-ball defender PG who can score enough and hit the three? (And happens to have a good value contract). He could be a great fit for the Kings, who have a big need for 3 point defense and breaking up passes. No more getting torched by good point/assist PGs on a regular basis..

How about signing JT off the street if Koufous is traded? I think if JT excepted his role, he fits the PF spot next to Cuz arguably better than KK.
The other thing about Kosta is that his contract is really good. Starter/great backup C at a time when Mozgov is making tens of millions.
But great contracts are a blessing and curse. They're good when you have one, but they make getting equal value in trade hard because the other players making the same $$ aren't on the same level. So you sort of have to get compensated with draft picks.

Unless we are getting a 1st round pick this year and/or Patrick Beverley or Decker, I'm not interested in trading KK to someone who is trying to keep us out of the Western conference playoffs.

Ok, after considering this and reading your guys' posts I do not think we should trade KK, unless the package is very, very sweet.
To Brick's point on rebounding: We are at dangerously low levels. KK is a glue guy. If you don't know to look for it, when a glue guy leaves things can fall apart. I have always been a fan of KK.
I do not think he is untradable, but he is not the type of player you trade when you are just cohering as a team gearing up for a playoff run. He's the guy you trade FOR when you're in that position.
I say we wait it out, bide our time, and hopefully someone makes us an offer for Gay at the deadline. I could see a team who needs a specialty scorer make a move to try to put them over the top. Lord knows we'd take almost anything at that point. Gay and Collison for Beverly would be ideal.
I have a hunch about something though. I have a hunch there's something in the works between Cousins and Wall and or Bledsoe. New arenas in California with an up and coming playoff team with the greatest big man of his generation have a way of doing that. Rumors are they want to play together, but Cuz is not leaving to join the Wizards. LOL. One or both are coming here. So maybe we sneak into the playoffs this year, maybe we don't. But I have a feeling good things (players) are on their way. Just too damn fun to play in a town like this with arena like that with a player like Cuz for smart, good players not to come. "The sickness" has left us. Good things on their way.

i'd do a patrick beverly for KK straight up. we could deal ben, rudy or whoever for another big to fill in his place. our backcourt would have one of the nastiest defenders. i was really pining for avery bradley but beverly would be awesome. make it happen vlade!

I say we target Beverly if possible obviously, but Dekker would be a great get. I think Dekker would be a great fit in today's NBA for the team we are building. Add Dekker and then Bogdanovic next year, our 3 pt shooting goes up and defense doesn't take a hit IMO
I doubt Houston trades Beverly. If they would I'd look at that deal. Decker probably isn't even value but I like him. Salaries don't match though. And unless Rudy is dealt there's a logjam at the SF spot.
I know they are shopping Brewer and predictably have had no takers. The only other way I'd deal Koufos is if the Kings were blowing things up and trading Boogie and anything else of value. Then Koufos for Brewer and the Rockets pick and maybe another piece (future 2nd rounder, Onusawu etc) might be worth considering.
But even in a rebuild scenario Koufos is the kind of guy you'd probably want to keep. Good contract, solid roleplayer and the kind of pro you'd want around your young draft picks. Temple and Tolliver as well.

I certainly wouldn't trade Koufos just because Houston wanted him. And if I did entertain trading him, it would have to be for someone I wanted in return. Not an expiring contract, or Brewer. I'd love to have Beverly, and, or, I really like Dekker. One of the questions about him at Wisconsin was, is he a PF or a SF. I always thought he could play either position, but was best suited for the PF position. He has the size to match up with most of the PF's around the league, and he's a terrific athlete. Not to mention, he can hit the three with consistency. He's the type of player I think we should go after. A young player that could be a part of the long term future of the team.

That kid really impressed me during Wisconsin's playoff run a couple seasons ago. Dekker kept making clutch play after clutch play. I felt he might develop into a pretty good player in today's NBA. He's got the skillset for it.

DMC has been collecting less boards this season BECAUSE of KK's presence.
(And it's not necessarily a bad thing, except for the famous 27/11, that's turned into a 29/10...

Since Cuz is sharing the floor with Koufos in the starting 5 so often, taking the PF position and leaving the C to Kosta, the burden of rebounding was somewhat aleviated off his showlders.
The real trouble is that our TEAM is taking less boards than ever before.
I think this has more to do with:
- Bad rebounding effort from WCS and Tolliver on the 2nd and 3rd unit
- Sub-par rebounding from Rudy (for his own standards) and long inactivity periods he suffered even before the other night
- Too many Barnes & Afflalo minutes at the SF, and not enough Casspi in that position, even in the 2nd unit! (Omri has been our best non-7-footer rebounder BY FAR)
- Boogie will snatch most the missing boards himself,
- WCS will have to grow a pair and wrestle some too, or watch Skal take all his minutes by devouring the glass
- The rest will be split between Casspi and Tolliver, who will both have their playing time increased considerably anyway.

I think I might be ok with dealing Koufos and DC for Beverly and Dekker and something else....a pick or other. Not sure where the salaries are but I'd take a PG rotation of Lawson and Beverly. Play WCS with Boogie or backing him up. Play Skal too and Papa for small stints.

Beverley's off ball ability, defense, and 3pt shooting is perfect next to Harden. I don't see why they would move him, and the deal you suggest might actually make them worse this year which goes against their goals.
The deal to be had is Brewer and young asset/pick for Koufos. Brewer isn't vital to their team and Koufos would probably start over Capela. The question is do WE want to make that deal.
Brewer sucks...that wouldn't be a selling point. Dekker is not enough. Koufos and Beverly are about equal. DC gives the a PG replacement off the bench. I don't think a deal gets done but I wouldn't trade Koufoas unless they are sending back Beverly.

Whoever said Brewer didn't suck? You're missing the point of the deal.
And if that's the case, then the deal won't happen. Beverley is easily the most valuable player in the deal. He's not "equal" with Koufos. And again, he's a PERFECT complement to Harden. Why would they trade a perfect complement? That's not what intelligent GMs do (especially when they are on a dirt cheap contract for the next few years)/
Dekker is no slouch either. He's been able to contribute in only his 2nd year in the league.
The trade I posted in my thread has them sending Brewer, Dekker, & a protected 1st for Koufos & Morrow. I think that's more than enough value for Koufos and it makes much more sense for Houston considering Koufos & Morrow would help them win this year more than Brewer & Dekker.
I don't think,Houston will trade Beverly but they do have Gordon as a person who could play in the backcourt with Harden and then feasibly get DC as part of the backcourt rotation. And I said Koufos and Beverly are about equal, not equal.
Houston wants/needs a guy like Koufos. I doubt Houston makes any type of deal involving their core.....hence why there has been no deal since they were mentioned wanting a big. They want something for nothing which isn't going to happen.
