HOMER ALERT: Heart and hustle

No, we didn't win. Yes, we made mistakes.

But, day-um. The Kings played with heart and hustle. They made the Trailblazers beat them and they didn't make it easy.

Jason Thompson, Bobby Brown, Donte Greene, Spencer Hawes. That's a impressive group of kids we've got playing for us and they're only gonna get better.

Heart and hustle - that's what it's all about and it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!





















And for those of you not used to my homer rantings, I'm sorry. Feel free to move on to the next thread if this one is too purple-tinted. I'm just very happy to have something to cheer and be hopeful about again. These Kings are fun!

My only problem is tonight we were the team that the opponent beat playing at the absolute bottom of their game. The Blazers scraped out a win against a team playing (relatively) well, despite huge turnover numbers, while themselves playing what will probably be a bottom 5 game of the year.

We played a team that's widely considered to be playoff bound with the manboy god Greg Oden, and we battled them right to the end without two of our key players AND on the second night of a back-to-back against a Lakers team that brought their starters back in because they were worried we might pull it out.

The opponent beat us playing at the absolute bottom of their game? So it's only a good game if the other team kicks the crap out of us? That makes no sense whatsoever. The Kings played defense, they showed heart and hustle. I feel sorry for you if you cannot be at least somewhat satisfied by that...

Give them more minutes!! They'll eventually come into their own yeah, but more minutes please? Plus, don't forget the couple of young'ns waiting in the reigns (riding that injury pine sadly). Our (supposedly) two leaders should come back real soon. Even with all these losses, it's still great to be a Kings fan. Heart and hustle! I haven't seen it in a while.

I agree with you, even though we are 5-11 the record doesn't show the hustle and heart that these young kings players have and not to mention they are having fun cheering and encouraging their teammates..

And who would have thought that jason can contribute this early and spencer improving this quickly. And we have yet to see what donte can give us which others say has good potential.

The future looks bright and promising GO KINGS!

You don't have to getting kicked the crap out of while playing a team that is playing well. You can play up to their level. A team can play well and you can play better and win. Conversely, a team can play bad and you can play worse and lose.

The case of the game tonight is a bit different, but its not all that unusual of a case. A team played bad, the Blazers, and another team played better than them, but still lost. This happens all the time. (In a less extreme case, it happened today. The Magic beat the Bucks at home by 7 even though they had 18 turnovers against only 18 assists and bricked a ton of free throws)

Harken back to the old days of the Kings. In 02 or 03, we could mail plenty of games in, especially at home, and still get wins against cellar teams. Hell, we did this until about 2006 and Muss. Of course, there were the huge blowout wins at home that all stand out in our minds, but go back and look at box scores from those years. I'd guarantee at least a half dozen of our home wins from some of those years were semi-close games against bad teams that we beat just because we were good even though we played below their level (Personally, I can remember several against GS, Memphis, and the Clippers).

I agree that we played at a high level for a back-to-back and that was promising. Also, even though the Blazers were playing bad, it was good that we did not match that and lose by double figures. On top of that, our defense was actually not half bad for once. Sorry if I'm a buzz kill, but despite all that this isn't the most uplifting game anyway. We did an abysmal job protecting the ball, JT was scoreless, and BJ and MM played way too many minutes.

Also, do you really have to put a "Whatever, dude" in every response to me? I mean, it'd be alright if you used it sometimes other than when you are trying to be condescending, but as I see it now, you don't. Its like a nervous tick.

2002 and 2003 weren't the old days of the Kings. Trying to compare a rebuilding team like ours is right now to an elite team like they were then is totally without merit.

I'm sorry you never saw the Kings back in the 80s and 90s. If you had, you would realize how bad "bad" really can be.

Our team right now is NOT good but there is hope and I'm going to continue to celebrate it. If you don't want to, that's fine. No problem at all. I believe the journey is just as important as the destination.

I'm Sorry You Never Saw The Kings Back In The 80s And 90s. If You Had, You Would Realize How Bad "bad" Really Can Be.

Our Team Right Now Is Not Good But There Is Hope And I'm Going To Continue To Celebrate It. If You Don't Want To, That's Fine. No Problem At All. I Believe The Journey Is Just As Important As The Destination.

Sometime good defense can contribute to the opponent not playing well.

But anyway you can always reverse the role if you like.

I don't know if their is much more fans can ask for during rebuilding: a solid team that competes every night but still manages to put together a great record- draft wise, of course

I'm always amazed that when someone comes into our house and blows us out, its because we didn't play defense. Our bad! But when we go into someone else's house, and hold them to shooting a low percentage, its not because of our defense, its because they played badly. Once again, our Bad.

Personaly, I really don't give a damm, I just find that kind of objectivity amusing.

I am a homer...and PROUD. I agree with everything VF21 has said on this subject. I am having so much fun watching our youngsters play; offer heart, hustle, and entusiasm; and cheer on their teammates from the sidelines. We have a bright future and it is just heartening.

my only fear is the firing of reggie theus .. we have young players that are showing improvment, and I fear another coaching change would be a big mistake.

The youngster are a lot of fun, and I really like their emotion. I like Hawes yelling down the floor, Greene, Thompson and Brown getting into it. They definitely are not going through the motions, and they are trying on defense. Next year we should have even more athleticism and youth with two #1 picks and possibly a trade. Things are looking up.

That kind of objectivity is funny when you see it, but I really think there's not much of it to see in my post. We did play good defense (and I said we did, so already the situation you are talking about isn't happening here), but we did not play 40.5% FGA defense. That's just impossible with our team right now. Portland missed a ton of easy shots and layups (especially from LaMarcus and Oden) that they make every game and they threw away close to a half dozen absolute gimme plays on a break or semi-break.

In short, we played good d, but the low score of the Blazers was not entirely due to our defense. A lot of it came from their own expense.

Again I'm not saying we did not have some shining moment on defense, but one watch of the game and you can see that it wasn't the complete reason for the Blazers' ineptitude last night.
