anything off of the Anticon Records Label.

check out artists like alias, themselves, why, sole, jel, 13 & god, subtle, and deep puddle dynamics. its ace if yer into really innovative, poetic, and culturally sound hip hop. its basically the anti-50 cent/nelly/black eyed peas/eminem/insert any other money-grubbing-sell-out-lame-***-can't-write-a-real-lyric-to-save-his-life-hip-hop-artist here.

Agreed. Seven's Travels was a huge disappointment, besides "tryin to find a balance". Atmosphere's newest is pretty damn good. I love the guitar riff in "smart went crazy".

Here are some goodies. Let me know if you've heard any.

Josh Martinez- Buck Up Princess (don't sleep on this)
Josh Martinez- Midriff Music (another stellar album)

The Chicharones- When Pigs Fly (josh martinez and sleep from Old Dominion)

<3 Cunninglynguists and Aceyalone. "Heaven" is an absolutely awesome track.

Although everyone should have heard of MF Doom after Dangerdoom, you still gotta put him on here. Madvilliany, if for some reason you don't have it, go by it.

Oh, and Dangerdoom is coming to the Fillmore in SF in May (I think). Tix on sale tomorrow.

Also, I'll mention Sergent Garcia. Calls himself "salsamuffin", but I call it awesome. Anyone who likes great music from all different genres will love it, and he's got enough hip-hop/raggae influences and sounds to get a mention in here. "La Semilla Escondida" is an absolutely amazing CD.

Tonedeff- Archetype (Great album from beginning to end. He spits fast as hell)

Murs- 3:16/The Ninth Edition (my favorite murs album by far, production by 9th wonder is tight)

Brother Ali- Shadows of the Sun (slug's buddy from minnesota. albino and proud.)

I know these aren't all "new", but I'm just throwing them out there. If possible, for those who haven't heard of a certain group, leave a description to help us.

Ivote4replay:

took your advice and got the sergio mendes "timeless" off of itunes. I think padrino mentioned it before in another thread, and I had forgotten to check it out. That is an amazing album.

cLOUDDEAD- Ten

cLOUDDEAD- cLOUDDEAD

New White- Subtle

Themselves- The No Music

All produced by DoseOne. Very, very, very, very experimental hip/trip hop/jazz. Hard to give it a name. Worth a listen though.

"lo-fi ambient spoken word meets surreal hip-hop with an indie rock bent,amazon.com"

clouddead is definitely some ambient, surreal hip hop. i love all of doseone's work. subtle's season ep's are pretty nuts as well. themselves is a great collaboration. getting dose and jel together was brilliant. other anticon artists and alum worthy of note:

alias
nosdam
sole
telephone jim jesus
why?
slug (currently of atmosphere)
sage francis (currently of non-prophets)

not to mention anticon and deep puddle dynamics, two of the original anticon records collaborations. 13 & god, another doseone/jel side project, is definitely worth checking out.

This I haven't heard. I'll check it out though.

Padrino,
You ever heard Buck65- Talking Honky Blues

Padrino,

yeah. buck 65 is good stuff. he's another old anticon alum, i believe. he isnt associated with the label anymore, i dont think, which is a shame, but i do like talking honky blues.

as for 13 & god, its definitely worth checking out. its the collaboration of themselves and the notwist. you know themselves, so imagine dose and jel collaborating with a german electronica-rock-power-pop group. its really some of the most interesting stuff i've heard in a while. dose's lyrics are so ridiculously brilliant, if a tad abstract. ;)

i guess my affection for dose's work comes from the fact that he's generally a poet before a musician. he writes poetry, and then turns it into hip hop. as a writer and poet myself, i find that to be incredibly refreshing.

i dont know if the arctic monkeys will ever fully live up to the hype thats currently surrounding them, but they are definitely brit pop at its absolute finest.

and cat power's newest endeavor, while not as good as moon pix or you are free, is still another indie gem.

as for the subways, i am not familiar. but i can second the recommendations of arctic monkeys and cat power. check them both out.

agreed in regards to the hype surrounding artctic, but still a pretty good listen. yeah, def one of the better things coming from brit right now.

you are free is my personal favorite effort by cat power, glad they are still coming out with stuff and doing their thing.
you may want to check the subways out.. not sure if its your thing but I have found it enjoying for my taste

do you know anything about d.m.c, a band consisting of buckcherrys josh todd doing vocals with artists from another band (forget which one) heard a song that sort of covers 'all along the watchtower' titled 'watchtower' it was pretty cool but haven't heard anything else about them. sounded pretty interesting. im a fan of todd's.

lol

dmc is referring to the rapper formerly of the group run dmc (you might have heard of them) ;)

buckcherry and aerosmith are both featured on dmc's new solo album.

but i could see how you could forget aerosmith. i mean, they've hardly been a relevant rock & roll band in the last 30 or so years. :p

anyone watch My Block: The Bay on mtv2.... yall should check it out!
