Sure they proved they are a great regular season team, I give them that. The playoffs are a different animal however and I do hope that Atlanta comes out of the East to be honest just so we can see something different and not just LeBron year in and year out.

Over at SactownRoyalty they have a thread on Vivek at the Warriors game and his interview with Sean Cunningham. That thread has 87 comments. Would you like to guess how many of those comments express even a mild concern that he is present at the Warriors game? Zero. Not a one. Yet we have several commenters here tearing their hair out over it.

This cheering on the Warriors BS is just another log on the fire for me. I don't like Vivek because he is prolonging the suck that we have to endure. I'm sick of it. It's not gonna change this offseason because this inept FO isn't going to all of a sudden learn how to get out of their own way. The same suspects are still in power. Change has to first start at the top and until that happens we're going to see the same amateur hour bull sh** that has plagued this franchise for most of its exsistance. I hate being so negative but I just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Speak for yourself. We most certainly are rivals and GS is likely our biggest rival outside the Lakers, which is a rivalry which has fizzled away. The only reason GS and us don't have a more serious rivalry right now is because we're not good enough to be considered a threat by them but the entire foundation is there.

And we most certainly are a competing business. We're both competing for NorCal fans. We both compete in the same division. Every NBA team is in competition with the rest of the league, on the court and off, from attracting FAs from the same pool of players to getting time on national tv.

If your defense is that the NBA in actuality is not a competition, your argument has little ground to stand on.

I'm personally embarrassed by some of the fans around here. Some of the same fans who say they'd never trade with the Lakers and prop up that rivalry which is running on fumes and based off a somewhat distant history between the two franchises are now acting like a true geographic rival where fans have traveled up and down I-80 to pack one another's arenas at times and who's markets overlap, aren't even in competition with each other and folks are ridiculous for considering it a rivalry, rather than celebrating their success.

What I see is a fan base who's been so beaten and battered they don't think highly enough of themselves. I'm watching a wounded animal. I'm watching fans who have an inferiority complex and have soaked up our losing culture to the point they think the problem lies with those who still consider the NBA a competition, other teams our enemies and don't want the face of our franchise celebrating the success of another team while our own can't break the 30 win plateau.

The root of sports is competition. That we've been so lousy within that competition for years and a few have lowered their standards to the point they think the issue is with others who still hold up the NBA as a competition is, as I said, embarrassing. That some here have a problem with proud Kings fans not wanting to be associated with other teams and basking in the joy of their success is sad.

From 2007 to 2012, the Kings IIRC beat up on the Warriors consistently. There were WAY more than the average overtime games, and both teams played better against each other than they did the rest of the league.
There was bad blood, animosity, and rough play (Demarcus and Bogut especially). Only in 2012-2013 season did the Warriors start to be better than the Kings (record), but the Kings played them HARD.

This is just from memory, and I could be wrong, but - were you a fan during those years?

There is no real Kings-Warriors rivalry.. I know a lot of Kings fans who cheer for the Warriors on the side because of the close proximity from Sacramento to Oak/SF.

The only beef is between Bogut and Cousins...mostly because Bogut has the ability to shut down Cuz with his size and length.

You can say everything you just said about the Warriors to the Jazz or Suns.

There's more of a rivalry between the Kings and Clippers than the Warriors...

We are competing markets..I was just thinking towards the idea that most fans aren't band wagoners. Basketball is a growing sport, so we are competing against the Warriors in the sense of gaining new NBA fans.

I don't see how the Warrior's success has hurt the King's business. I don't see Warrior games being available to the Sacramento market any time soon(through CSN).

I think this is largely the reason many of us don't see the GSW as rivals. Sure, we're in the same division and we play each other regularly, but we've never been competitive at the same time. We've never faced each other in a win or go home playoff type game. Hell, they've been bad for so long, it's kind of nice to see them turn it around. It gives me hope that we can do the same.

If we do turn it around next year and make the #8 seed and get to face them in the first round of the playoffs, we could see a rivalry born in front of our eyes. But until then, the majority of the fanbase won't really see it as a rivalry.

I'm australian. I followed the Kings in high school and university because I had family living in Sacramento and I played a lot of basketball at the time.

I dont watch games anymore. The games themselves go on for too long, as does the season. I started following the Kings again when the relocation saga was going on. This is also when I started posting here.

I am happy to defend Vivek to some extent. Even putting past actions to the side, he is taking risk and experimenting. I don't think you can have success without risk. There have been some missteps but the organisation does seem to have the capacity for learning, and therefore I feel it is too soon to label them incompetent.

I will grant there there has long been an...odd feel to the Kings/Warriors rivalry, much of of it due, I think, to the cycle of our individual ups and downs, and the fact both franchises have struggled, eclipsed under the hype and favoritism shown to the Lakers. Neither team has been up at the same time the other was. When we were up and we invaded their arena en masse, they were gracious, slightly envious, but not, in general, mean and nasty Hell, I took a bus load of people there, got lost after getting the bus driver a ticket, ended up wandering ON COURT with my huge Kings flag on it's sharp pointy pole and no one seemed the least bit put out. They were, at that point, very beat down as fans and seemed to take an odd sort of pride that the Kings were Nor Cal and might, finally, stick it to the So Cal team. (Oddly, the Jazz fans were NOT so accommodating, even though we brought our own beer and they confiscated the pole for the flag) Go figure

Im going to be honest I find the picture of our owner at another teams game disgusting. I also personally find it strange that fans are even defending it, I support a soccer team and I can tell you now if our owner went to support one of the other local sides in an important match there would be hell on. If said owner had been personally responsible for ruining our season I dont think he would be allowed back in the city.

I was thinking maybe its an american sports thing but I spoke to some American mates of mine who support the Saints and there had the same views as me regarding the owner going to a Falcons, Bucs or Panthers game to cheer the home team... it would not be acceptable.

If this year didn't spell out incompetent I'm not sure want sign from above you are waiting for. That being said maybe Vlade can right the ship. It's a lot to put on his shoulders and Vivek needs to step back, but there have been larger miracles. Frankly something needs to change culturally because no FA will want to come to a situation like this.

It's funny that as a Saints fan I was using the same analogy to my wife. The thought of our owner on the sidelines or even luxury box of a Falcons or Panthers playoff game was incomprehensible to her. As is this.

It's definitely not an American thing. If anything it's a battered wife syndrome for some fans. It's as if they criticize the owner, we'll go through this whole relocation saga again. Well we won't. The team is not leaving. If anything, we proved that the city has more clout than an individual owner.

The other issue is that we've had bad ownership for so long that we have a whole generation of fans who don't even know what a good owner should be doing.

Our team didn't make the playoffs. Our owner attended a playoff game within driving distance of his house. He wore our team's colors and gear at the game. And someone like me, who thinks this is not a big deal, is accused of being like a wounded animal, of having a lack of pride, and (earlier upthread) having "battered wife syndrome". Because I don't think it's a big deal that our owner (who I don't even LIKE THAT MUCH, BY THE WAY) watched a basketball game that we weren't playing in. I'm somehow abnormal and extreme for this opinion.

Yet people who would respond to this perceived affront with personal violence, assault, and arson upon the owner are put forward as "normal" people.
