As some of you might know, but most are probably unaware, each year Arco Arena is the host to the California Higschool Basketball Championships. Today the Northern California championships will be held at Arco going all day with both women and men and all the divisions. The Southern California championships are being played in LA and the two teams to play for the State Championship will play at Arco next saturday.
Anyways, I am currently attenting Serra High School in San Mateo where some athletes have made it big. (Barry Bonds, Tom Brady, Lynn Swann, etc). My point is, my school has been on a tear since entering the playoffs, winning our league (WCAL), our area (CCS) and now our trying to win NorCal. This is the first time we have made it this far and it sure is tough moving up from divison 2 to divison 1 this year. We knocked off the best team in NorCal (Were #1 through majority of the season) on thurs and we are now playing a team from Oakland, Castlemont who has knocked off the #1, #6, and #5 seeds in the tournament bracket. Castlemont is ranked #9 in the tournament, based on their record. Serra is ranked #2 in the tournament and has knocked off the #8, #7 seeds (Newark Memorial, best team for most of year in nor cal).
This game is being play at 8pm at Arco. It will also be displayed on CSNW (Kings Channel) tonight at 8pm. It shouldnt be blacked out for most people so give it a try and please support and root for the Serra Padres.
Just to give you a recap of thursdays game vs the best team, Newark:
There was a lot of dunking, alley-oops, NBA assists, etc. It all came down to us and our PG, Chaz making 2 free throws with 3 seconds left to give us a 3 pt lead. Then they inbound the ball, their center dribbles up to center court and drains a 3 past mid-court. It doesnt even hit backboard. In OT, one of our F misses 4 straight FT's, air balling the last one. But once again our PG gets fouled and makes 2 FT's to give us another 3 pt lead with 8 secs to go. They miss a 3 wide right. The newspapers in the Bay Area and possibly around any of you have been discussing the fact that this was by far the best High School Basketball game to ever be played in California. I will have the game soon and be able to send it to people to see it.
Anyways... just please help support and root for my school and our team as we try to advance to the State Championships.
If you would like to attend the game/s at Arco you can visit ticket master or buy tickets at the door. $19 for courtside, and up to $35 (most expensive) for front row seating.
