I'm loving this interview.

Oh, and I stand corrected. All the Maloofs decision. Rick was willing to listen and talk. Oh well, maybe the Maloofs are right 8 years is a long time. We'll see what happens. To quote a song,

"The future was wiiiide open"

Why do i feel like the the Big Goof Maloofs are huddling over their radio taking notes on what Rick is saying...

oh and amen on what you Rick said about Brad.

He also stated the obvious about Brad Miller... he needs to be better conditioned and stronger as he gets older. He thinks Brad wore out by the end of the season and better conditioning and strength are the keys to him getting better defensively (among other things).

He thinks Brad is one of the smarter players, so he thinks he'll adjust.

Well Brad said he had to get stronger last year (but did nothing), so we'll see. I doubt the guy will go into any type of strength training personally. Rick stated that if he gets stronger he won't get backed down so easily by lesser players.

Rick pointed out one thing I don't like about him. With the managing Chris Webber when he came back from his knee injury. He let Chris's *personality* outrule his better judgement and authority. You tell him NO you aren't starting period. Nobody may know whether it will help or not, but you stay with what's working. Just like Kevin kept starting for a while when Bonzi came back, because it was working and you didn't want to mess with it.

Awesome interview sans that tool Mike Lam and his stupid questions. Rick has always been candid and stands firm in his decisions in his post season radio interviews and this was no different.

Great interview and very sincere inputs from Coach. The interview is a fantastic window into Adelman that we have not had before and very objective views on all aspects particularly this past year and "the hand he was dealt". But nothing about Bibby situation he had but I missed some over here.

Best of luck coach, you were what Sacramento and the Kings needed and at 8 years the second longest tenure in the NBA in a long time.

He also pointed out the truth wich you seem unable to remember. Like he said Chris was by far the best player on the floor for us once the playoffs started, and as he alluded to Vlade disapeared and Brad broke down like he has every year he has been here. When the regular season was over and the games really counted Chris was once again the one who stepped up, he gave Garnett one hell of a series. By the way he did not let Chris personality outrule his judgement, it was Ricks judgement that Chris gave them the best chance to win and like he said once the playoffs started Chris' play proved that.

Oh I remember it, but my point is even Duncan came off the bench after coming back from an injury.

WORD!

I believed it then and it proved to be true, except for those blinded by their dislike and/or bias.

Well it was obvious to anyone actually watching that Chris and Doug (and at times Bibby) were our warriors during that series.

Wish I could've heard the interview... this is making me depressed.
~~

I hope that they will replay it, or put it online, or something. It was one of the better interviews I have ever heard. It ran about 1 hr 20 min and Rick was his usual candid and classy self.

I've gotta believe the are going to put it up on khtk.com, hopefully they will and you can hear it, it really gave me a sense of closure, that era is over for good. Some people think that is a great thing and the team can win a championship now all of the sudden but this new team will be lucky to even match the achievements of those that came before. Too many Kings fans take way too much for granted...

Um..given that Duncan has started in 665 of 666 possible games over his career, he may have coem off the bench for a grand total of ONE game.

I don't know the stats...but I do remember he was coming off the bench for a bit maybe last season...don't remember exactly when. I have other things to do besides knowing everyone's individual stats.

Grant just said that the interview will be up on khtk.com in just a little while. :)

Well it took me about 30 seconds to look that up at nba.com.

Whatever your recollection was, it was obviously mistaken. One game off the bench ever, and that was in 03-04.

Which is why I stopped transcribing :p But until then, here's a teaser to the into (what I had done)

Grant Napear: Why don’t you —I’m just going to let you start say whatever you want well because we’ve got a lot of people listening and instead of me just firing questions right off the back. What would you like to say to start off this deal?

Rick Adelman: Well I just think its been a tough few days. Like I said today at the press conferred, we had a tough start to the season and then we turned it around and a finished strong and I thought we did a good job in the playoffs against San Antonio; we had a chance to win twice there and we didn’t get it done. But you know they’re the world champs and there’s a reason for that. And I don’t know, I guess after the series was over I really felt pretty good about the fact that you know myself and the staff are going to have a chance to continue on and so you kind of get yourself thinking in a positive mode and then suddenly it turns the other way. So, I always said that I would be find either way, and I think I will be eventually but when it happens, I was disappointed and especially disappointed for my assistant coaches, because they’re kind of hung out there right now. It’s been a tough few days.

Mike Lam: Does the timing of it seem as though there is any irony involved because I would since you have turn this years team around, public perception of you has been nothing but positive? The fans that call here talk about what a great job you have done, how much they support you and that hasn’t always been true around there

Rick: I think it is ironic. My wife and I have talked about that, whether it’s the end of certain years where you know, even like last year when we ended and we lost to Seattle and it was like we were the superior team even though we had Brad hurt and Bobby hurt and we were playing a team with a better record and home court advantage and all that, but you know there was a lot of negativity then and now suddenly we finish on a really good note like you said and there seems to be a change in what’s going on and that’s the time it happens. I don’t know, its just the way it is in this business although I think that’s a little unusual when you do get on little bit of a roll and you’ve been there a long time you usually give a little bit more leeway to someone. But that’s not the way it is, I think they are ready to make a change and they made it.

Grant: Why do you think that is now in professional sports, and I’ll keep it to basketball, you’ve coached in different cities now, and yet 8 years is a long time. I think the only one that’s got longer tenure than you is Jerry Sloan. What it is about the NBA that you think makes it so difficult for a coach to have, you know true longevity?

Rick: I think it’s just the instant gratification has got to be there all the time and they may just be the climate…

Rick got in one last jab at Ailene Voison for old times sake...man, I'm gonna miss that.:D

guess I better give this it's last big send-off:

I like segment 2 alot... Where he defends himself over how people called him an offensive minded coach only. He was talking about how at times, the Kings did not have the players to play the kind of D like a Detroit. He simply said, if you want a defensive team, go out and get defensive players. Don't go out and get offensive players and expect me to make them defensive and offensive ones. Not only that, but he also said that people want a players coach, then want a tough nosed coach, then they want a tough nosed coach a players coach. He seemed very angry about people complaining about defense. He made VERY VERY good points... Made a point that Larry Brown had one of the greatest defensive team in the NBA and then he goes to New York and they are awful. It's not the coach. He also thinks that Elston Turner should be the new coach, and that he would be an incredible coach and he is a different person than Rick. Thinks that he could be like Avery Johnson and it would really be wrong for the Kings to not talk to him.

Just listening to these clips makes me realize what a coach he was. I just wish he would have been more candid like this before.
