Hassan Whiteside as Our Future Power Forward

Whiteside is our future power forward.

I'm glad we got lucky and picked him at the 33rd. He is going to be amazing.

And in answer to Brick, even if he is Keon Clark then we got a good second rounder.

That might be close. He's probably got better hops than Gasol and might be quicker, but Gasol is a pretty good all around athlete. I'm assuming that your talking about Pau. Now if he can just develop the same skill set, then we have something.

Actually, I don't think Whiteside is that explosive of a leaper. He's not a poor leaper or anything, but neither is Gasol. Gasol is pretty fluid like Whiteside. Whiteside may have a better first step than Gasol, I can't say I saw him enough to really gauge it too well.

I remember shortly after the combine hearing this too, that is that he is stronger then one might think. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I think he had a pretty good workout during the bench press portion.

I like HW's potential, and think it is great he slipped to 33. What is it we always say? Guards are a dime a dozen, while fairly athletic, rediculously long 7 footers with a nice little j are much more rare. I think if he follows Baja's advice and rounds his game more he could def play the 4.

Is anyone else still kind of I'm shock we have gotten so lucky two years in a row? Might be too early to tell, but it has def been a great few weeks for us. (minus the high speed fun)

Yeah, unlucky in the lottery and lucky with who falls to us in the draft. It's like the basketball gods just want to drive us crazy.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, he still has a long way to go.

I actually think he's in a very good position relative to other athletic lengthy big men. Defensively, unlike other hacks, it seems like he knows how to use is arms and body and can control his fouls while still blocking shots--his defensive impact is above average for a center. There's tons of potential here particularly if he adds some weight or if he's really zoned into this area.

Offensively he likes to take this mid-range jumper which shows solid potential, but isn't quite up to snuff. But at least he's willing, and with his age it could improve and make him a reasonable offensive player. He's not that turnover prone either. His offensive impact is not good as of now, he's never going to become a post player, and he's got a lot to learn, but he can at least become this sort of dunking off shovel passes/mid-range spot-up guy sort of player.
